I bought the Ampero Mini as a backup for my main rig (ToneX in the fx loop of my HX Stomp), and also as a small grab-n-go device for jams. Like you, I fond 2 footswitches very limiting, but I discovered that the Mini supports MIDI over USB. So I have connected a CME-Pro WIDI UHost to the Ampero Mini's USB port, and I can now control the Ampero Mini from my MIDI controller. MIDI lets you select presets, and also lets you turn blocks on and off. You can also invoke the CTRL feature (sort of a snapshot). Details can be found in the manual for the old Ampero pedal (not listed in the Ampero Mini manual). For the size and price, this thing is hard to beat.
DUDE! Thats so rad!
I didnt even think about MIDI via USB. Thats so cool!
Thanks for sharing! Im gonna pin this!
🤘🏼😜
@MadManMusic curious to know what you think of the sound when using it through an frfr speaker?
I actually have an FRFR Speaker! And its cool, mine seems to be a bit boomy… but its very cool to be able to use the IRs and Jump from Amp to Amp, Guitar to Bass with the same rig.
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic thanks. Was just trying to get some input because I'm considering buying one for my Ampero II.
I see, my only complaint with an FRFR speaker is that they are very hard to mic well in a live setting. In that case you’re better off going with a regular speaker cab and power amp.
🤘🏼😜
Because I now play exclusively for my church while leading my youth orchestra in limited space and I suffer from Multiple Sclerosis, the small size and power of this pedal allows me to take a pedalboard with me in a small package inside of my gig bag. The Ampero was introduced to me by a fellow guitarist who also serves at the same church. I love this unit.
I only got tuner, wah, od, distortion and ampero mini. Ampero mini does its job for booster, amp,cab sim and modulations. really nice one to make cheap versatile pedal board
Nice! Times like this make me wish RUclips allowed people to comment with photos so people can show their rigs..
Thanks for watching!!
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic thanks for making great videos
Man that made my day. Thank you!
🤘🏼😜
As a gigging musician using EVH 50 watt heads I totally get the practicality of these. Locally I use the Mooer Mini 50/50 preamp pedal as a backup. Straight into FOH and it has a built in cab sim. It’s saved my bacon once or twice over the last 10 years. And it fits in my pocket!
When I’ve done the odd gig in Europe I’ve used the Amp1 iridium Bluguitar. Absolutely amazing! Blackstar do some great alternatives as well. Good times and options for guitar players. But I’ll still use my amp where possible.
Gotta have the trouser flap 🤘🏼
Ha! I’m with ya! There’s nothing like the real thing!
But you’re right! The options these days are crazy.
I’ve jammed on the BluGuitar Amp1’s a few times! I’d love to get my hands on one to make a video. A friend of mine knows the reps pretty well, maybe I should reach out to him about it.. 🤔
Thanks for watching!!
🤘🏼😜
Thank you for the review and answering everyone’s questions! Really helped me sort out if I wanted this. Just ordered one! Had to follow your channel also, especially since Pro-Pain and Napalm Death!!🤘🏼🔥
Im glad the video was helpful! Thanks for watching!
🤘🏼😜
Two questions if I may:
- On Looper mode, could you please clarify wether it is possible to undo/cancel the last overdub without clearing the whole loop? The manual is unclear.
- how would you compare the Ampero Mini drum machine patterns and sound quality against other budget multi effects such as the Zoom G1 four or the Nux MG 300, if you’ve ever tried those?
Thanks!
This looks great for simple home recording to avoid the hassle of using a mic with an amp.
Its great for that! There’s lots of flexibility in this little guy!
It's next on my list on Amazon.
Niiiice! 🤘🏼😜
Very cool. I just found you.. I don't tour, etc, and only play out once in awhile.. I'm 62 and just play for fun. I'm wanting something like this that's small and I can use for a clean and a dirty tone and with some reverb and delay, and I'd like something .. Anything that has micropitch. I could buy an Eventide, but it would be cool if they included micropitch as one of the effects in this thing.. I doubt it though.. I still like it because I like going direct and every place I play in my rural area says no stage volume or very little and no amps for the most part.. So, I'm trying to put together a small gigging and recording board..
Thanks so much man.
Regards from South Central Indiana. USA
Tim
Hey Tim! Welcome!
It sounds like something like this could be an option. Of course there are much more expensive options, but this would work at the base level. You have just have to save the Presets that you like close to one another or better yet, one after another so you can easily navigate to them.
I tour A LOT. And I’m always trying to find gear that works well and is cost effective. Because if I lose it or it breaks on the road I wont be so heartbroken. 🤣
Thanks for watching!
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic Thank you for the video man. Good stuff. Love that ESP too. Very cool guitars. I'm considering one of the LTD 1000s with stainless frets and a Floyd. I'm spoiled by Floyd's being an 80s guy. 🤣..
Very cool. I'll check out more of your videos. I'm always looking for good info on gear.
Iay have to buy one and add my wah and an eventide Micropitch delay and I'd be set for the most part.
Thanks again brother..
I love me some ESP Guit-Fiddles! 🎸
🤘🏼😜
Cualquier cosa NO!!! No Compres Gigboard de Headrush... es una porqueria, se tilda, anda mal y no tiene repuestos... Tengo un #gigboard de pisapapeles, U$S700 tirados a la basura, Mal lo de @Headrush con alguno de sus productos
Sometimes less is more =) I think that's great whan a pro touring musician shows that it's not necessary to carry a full-blown stack and you can make a decent live show on a budget =) Have a good one, man!
P.S. what headphones you are using in the video?
Absolutely! Its actually more of a misconception that touring musicians use such crazy gear… or at least “travel” with such crazy gear. Many festivals and such will provide a “Backline” of Amps… but you dont always get to choose what kind of amp that’s gonna be!
Thats where this little guy comes in!
As for headphones I’m using the Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro’s! Semi Open 250ohms.
Thanks for watching!
🤘🏼😜
I use the AXE FX III though two katana MK2 head's so I'm in stereo and my back up is The Moore brown sound 3 pedal
Nice! Cool Rig! 🤘🏼😜
Bragger. 😜 jk. ✌️
Thanks for this review.
Do you know if the "hiccup" mentionned at 6:19 has been patched in the last firmware version?
Thanks for the review! Was thinking about putting this in my Hx Stomp's FX loop so i have extra effects and saving dsp!
Thats an interesting idea…
The only downside is the Ampero Mini is only MIDI Controllable via USB… it would be much more useful if it has regular MIDI I/O because you could set the HX Stomp to control the Ampero Mini when you change patches.
🤘🏼😜
I just started to investigate in the brandspanking new m vave chocolate PLUS midi footswitch which seems to work. I ordered a mini and a footswitch which will arrive soon. The first videos I have seen are only in portoguese. But the midi commands are the same as in the Ampero. The older version of that footswich worked with bluetooth only. The new one (Plus) is USB. Check the Videos of Fabian Lopes. What is also cool about the mini is that it has bass amps.
Sorry for the crappy english (German 😂) Cheers Andreas
would you take this over a Nux MG-30? they're priced very similarly in my country h
Not sure, I'd have to look that unit up. I'll check it out!
🤘🏼😜
IMO-NUX MG30 is fairly brittle sounding and not much more than a cheap practice device...
I'm going to buy this one for efx, and a the ACS1 WALRUS to emulate amps
Nice! Let us know how it works for you!
🤘🏼😜
Hey man. How do you like it so far? are the tones good for both direct recording and recording it thru an actual amp thru fx loop?
I enjoy it. For the price its a great unit across the board. It wont replace any of my high end gear but its great for traveling and a backup in a pinch!
🤘🏼😜
Great video! I'm looking at this thing to replace my small bass pedalboard.
Most of the time I use the compressor only, but sometimes add overdrive/flanger/chorus. Do you know if you can setup external control pedals to specific presets? If I say buy 4-button external controller, to assign them to chorus/flanger/overdrive ?
Your bass pedalboard was very simple! Just tuner, noise gate and this little boi. But do you use noise gate to clean the signal before the processor?
For the price it's worth trying anyway
Hey! Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to try the Extra Switches Hotone offers yet. Maybe I’ll be able to get my hands on one at some point.. I’m not sure if the 4 button switcher will work with this unit because that particular switcher is Bluetooth I believe. However, I do know that the manual mentions the Mini working with the 2 Button Switcher via the EXP input.
But yes, it seems that you should be able to set these switches to turn certain effects on and off.
As for my setup, it was Wireless, Tuner, Gate, Mini, Stereo DI.
I an very picky about Gates… and to me, nothing works better than the Boss NS2 right in the beginning of the signal chain.
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic nice, man! I almost never played with the gate, but last year I've started to consider it as well.
Thanks for the video again!
As a high gain user, its 1000% necessary. Otherwise its all feedback. And when I was playing with Napalm Death I had to use A LOT of Gain even though i was playing Bass. Because we would blend a Clean DI with the Heavy Gain. Sounded HUGE. But also noisy. So there a gate was necessary also.
I think they are always a good idea really. They just clean things up.
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic yep, when I crack my overdrive heavy, I also have a lot of noise by simply blowing air at the bass 😁
How good the modulations sound? Will it be in quality close to the plethora x3? ...I'm evaluating using this as an extra multi-function pedal on my pedalboard.
I’ve never used the Plethora X3 so I couldn’t really give you a comparison. But I can say that Hotone definitely seemed to have put a fair amount of effort into making this unit sound as authentic as possible for the size and price point. Its cheap enough to be worth giving it a shot regardless.
🤘🏼😜
I use the hotone ampero mp100, its great!! the only problem is that the touchscreen has gone crazy, I cannot use it and sometimes it starts to change presets by itself, i have to lock it and everything is good, to edit in a live situation i have to use the knbos, it takes more time thuogh
I see.. how did the screen malfunction?? Was it from something in particular??
Or did it just happen out of the blue?
🤘🏼😜
well, how is the pitch shifter's quality? Does it work well as a virtual capo?
If I’m honest, I’m not thrilled with its pitch shifting capabilities. It has the effect, but once you’ve used a Digitech Drop its hard to use anything use for that.
Now I tried the pitch shifts Droping down in pitch, going up might be a different story. 🤔
I’ll have to look into that!
🤘🏼😜
Great video!! I’ve just got this from Amazon. I’m trying to connect it to my pA speakers, but not getting decent tones. I’m using an XLR cable from my speakers to the output of the ampero. Still unsuccessful! What am I doing wrong?
Hmm 🤔
So out from the Ampero? Is it the Ampero Mini or one of the larger models?
Are these speakers Active?
Do they have any “EQ” Options.
For instance a Mackie Powered PA Monitor will have a few different built in (but mostly pointless) EQ Presets.
You want the “Flat” preset if possible.
Let me know!
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic Hey man! Thank you for your reply 😃👍!! I appreciate it a lot!!! It’s the mini ampero. I’ve been getting good tones using the headphone jack connected to my Alto tx308 speakers. Cab sim is on of course. I wanted to connect through the output of the mini, but the sound was awful. I just got a splitter cable today and connected it to the output, then using two make xlr to my 2 Alto powered speakers. It’s got no Eq like Mackie. I’m getting decent sounds now, but the sound isn’t that clear. Perhaps the splitter cable is faulty, not sure. I’ve connected the xlr to the input of the Alto speakers. Not sure if that’s the right way to go. I will try to post a pic of the connection. Hope you can help me out! By the way, you rock bro 😈🤘!!! You played with one of my favourite bands Napalm Death 😈🤘!!!! Enjoy your evening!
So, I decided to go back to connecting the mini ampero to my speakers using the headphone line. The tones are much better, but there has to be a better way of using the output on the ampero.
You really should have the same sound from either source… have you tried using these outputs with anything else? Like an interface for your computer??
You may have a faulty unit..
Does it have a pitcher for downtune?
It does, but if Im honest its not the greatest. You’re better off using the Digitech Drop for that.
🤘🏼😜
does the software/editor for Ampero Mini work seamlessly on MacOS? (I am running a MacBook Air M2) TIA :)
Yup! It works great! 🤘🏼😜
I have a question. How to combine ampero mini with other stomp box at my pedalboard? I decided to use ampero mini for modulation and distortion for stomp box. But the problem is, when i want to switch to distortion sound, the ampero is still on. Do i need a switcher looper pedal?
In this case, if you were only using the Ampero Mini for its Effects and not as the main “Gain Sound”, yeah you’d probably need a Loop Switcher.. but honestly if you’re going that far I’d recommend an Effects Unit that has MIDI Capabilities. The Mini unfortunately doesn’t.
🤘🏼😜
how good is this as an audio interface? i want to be able to also use it with a computer with some amp sims, did you notice any latency or such issues?
I've never seen a review of the Mini Ampero as an audio interface. I also have a question regarding this. Can the Mini Ampero activate effects when used as an audio interface? (I play synth from mainstage)
you can use this as an audio interface with logic or guitar rig etc but you’ll find it only works well if you turn off the amp and cabs in the ampero
Do u need a di box to put strait into a pa mixer
DI boxes are always a good idea. But if you have a 1/4” to XLR cable or your mixer uses 1/4” jacks, you can go direct! 🤘🏼😜
Thanks for the review! How was the tone in Ampero Mini compared to the real thing? Does it sound almost the same?
Its sounds great!
You just have to remember Modeled Amps are a “Snapshot” of the sound being Mic’d. So in that regard, they sound great!
They will never sound like the amp in a room. That will never be the case unless you deactivate the Cab IR and play the modeler through a typical guitar cab.
But for the size and price it sounds excellent!
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic I bought one just yesterday and I can say I'm totally satisfied with this multi effect! It has the quality of some of the best pedals I've always wanted to have. Thank you again for your review
@user-rc8of3bu3u Awesome!! Enjoy it!
Thanks for watching!
🤘🏼😜
Hi Bro! Delay, Chorus and Reverb stereo or mono? What about playing in headphones, has a stereo panoramic?
The effects are Stereo. The Verbs, i believe, are stereo by default. And I think there is a Ping Pong delay option.
Its pretty well thought out for being a budget item!
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic thanks a lot bro! 🤗
@@MadManMusic many thanks Bro!
hi, how to plug in to computer? just plug or still need soundcard? thankyou
It comes with a USD-C Cable to connect to a computer. Once you install the Drivers you can use the Ampero Mini as an Interface to record directly! 🤘😜
is the sound perfect with just that?@@MadManMusic
no compressed sound? cus i try the headphone direct to the pedal and to the computer, sounds a bit different@@MadManMusic
If tou are atill monitoring this message, i am a headphones player. No band, i dont perform, and i really want a modeling amp or pedal that i can use headphones with and run into Reaper to do some recording. Is this the right item for that? Or would it be better to download some amp modeling software and line in to ny computer?
Thats a great question. It kind of depends on the “range” of amp possibilities you need.
It would be much easier for you to purchase Amp Sim VSTs as opposed to Physical Units. But.. you’ll pay more for less in that regard. With this physical unit you’ll get more while paying less.
If that makes sense. But the individual VSTs might be a bit more “dialed in”. Which might be more of what you’re looking for.
I hope that is helpful.
🤘🏼😜
@rw5170 - Advantage of the Ampero is you can use it standalone or record the wet signal into your recording program. Using it dry will allow you to use things like guitar rig or Plugins for your recording program. If this includes sounds you want that are not in the Ampero this is a better solution (but you need an audio interface anyway).
How does it sound compared to the Spark Mini?
I'm not sure, I haven't had the opportunity to try a Spark Mini.
But this is a full blown amp modeler. It sounds pretty authentic for its size and price!
🤘🏼😜
can i plug it in front of amp or should i just get a cab?
You can use it in the Fx Loop Return of an Amp! But be sure to Disable the Cabinet IR! 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic i see..thanks man🤟
You can run it into the front of your amp if you just want to use just the effects (like a pedalboard would) and just disable both the amp and cab sim, if you like the tone of your amp. I've used it both into the effects return (to try out the different amps) and into the front of my amp. It works really well both ways.
Is hotone ampero ii better?
It likely has more I/O options. Which would technically make it “better”. But the sound like be comparable. They are likely using similar processors. So it just depends on what you need on stage.
🤘🏼😜
Are you still doing a deep dive video on this?
I plan to. But it will have to wait til I’m home for touring with Pro-Pain.
🤘🏼😜
This or the zoom ms-50g?
I've never tried one personally. I would be interested to get my hands on one. But what what I can see you might be even more limited with Controls in the Live Setting with the Zoom...
🤘🏼😜
Now we have mvave blackbox. Amp modeler, multieffects and Profiling ann
@@AkpraOfficial what about the sound quality on that one?
I´ve saw you guys also use the neural quad cortex at Pro-Pain show. What ever... it was an amazing sound. I will try the ampero mini for bass and it is ordered now.
Yes, my guitarist Greg is currently using a Quad Cortex on stage. However, I use the EVH 5150III straight up! Pro-Pain just needs to sound like a Bull Dozer! No fancy Gear Required for that!
🤘🏼😜
Is this Good for live gig?
It just depends on what you need in order to perform live.
It really works best in simple switching situations. So if you need a lot of patch changes, I would recommend something more powerful. But if you only need a few presets it can work really well!
Its all in the user’s needs.
🤘🏼😜
Quick questions, can we change the order of the pedal freely?
Yes but some of the potential ordering makes no sense in practice
I only owned a Line POD HD500. What the sound quality in comparison with POD? Much better\same?
Truthfully, after playing Line 6 gear since the early 2000’s… I’ve never felt like they really nailed their models. High Gain models anyway.
Surprisingly for the money, I feel like this little pedal is a very realistic sounding. It has its limitations. The Line 6 would be much more capable in terms of flexibility and controllability. But for simple set ups, you cant beat the Hotone.
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic thanks for the response! Although.. I already bought one and very satisfied with it! I feel like it has better sound quality in general and better noise gate. For home use POD was so overkill. So nice to have such tiny device like Ampero Mini.
@czepesch Nice! 🤘🏼😜
Does it have trails? Thanks you
Unfortunately this unit does not trail into separate presets. Yet anyway.. They may release an OS update adding that feature.
🤘😜
Hola, se puede cambiar el orden de los presets?
Sí, puede "guardarlos" en la posición que desee.
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic ah pero una vez “guardados” ya no se puede mover…
This have Scenes/Snapshots?
Does this thing have a built in tuner?
Yes it does! 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic thank you!
Hola bro trae distorsión alta ganancia para metal? Que recomiendes?
Incorpora muchos modelos de amplificadores de alta ganancia! Es impresionante! 🤘🏼😜
How does this compare in terms of sound quality with the Sonicake Matribox?
I own both and I believe the Ampero wins over the Matribox because it’s built sturdier, has mic sim capabilities and in smaller.
Both are cool for the money, but i would choose the Ampero. However Sonicake makes a bunch of other really cool pedals! 🤘🏼😜
Can this be powered with 9 volt battery?
No. Power Supply Only.
However, There are a few new options or Lithium Battery Power Supplies!
Maybe that's worth looking into.
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic do you mean power bank?
Essentially yeah, thats what it is, but marketed towards guitarists.
Pedal Train makes the “Volto” I believe its called. Check it out!
🤘🏼😜
How’s the latency ?
None! It’s actually really powerful for being so small and affordable!
🤘🏼😜
PRO-PAIN is my SHAZAM!
Can you Edit preamp, power amp and cab separately?
Cab and amp separately yes. pre and power depends on the amp model
Is this guys band really called "Pro-Pain"?
Yup. The band has been touring all over the world for the last 30 years.
🤘🏼😜
HX one or ampero mini?
HX allows to use only one effect at time
If you don't need the sims, then go for the HX
Interesting…
Definitely worth a look! 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic Yeah I wasn't up on the idea of a lot of various things but the modern world holds a lot of cool toys for musicians these days.
It does! And the cost of these toys (electronics at least) have never been more affordable!
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic I felt the same when I first grabbed a Mooer Radar. That's become my go to travel companion with a small amp. I'm slowly working my way to all pedal sized platform that sounds killer. I think that your demo was the best I've seen and makes sense.
Horses for courses.... It is an obvious practicing/recording unit. For stage there are the big bros.
I toured with it. Its definitely big enough for being so small. 🤷🏻♂️
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic as a part or the rig it must be functional. I was surprised why 99% of the reviews criticize it for lack of features for live performance. It is like expecting a Fiat 500 to transport goods.
Its all in what you actually need on stage. And truthfully, you shouldn’t need so much.
Its capable of a lot, the limits only exists in its foot switch capabilities.
So you “could” just learn how to use the pedal and it will work just fine. Or you can add an Extension Foot Switch.
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic oh yeeessss that is what women say, not the size but how you use it, 😂😆

No physical vol/gain potentiometer for instant adjustments on live?
We’ll firstly if you have to change your volume during your set you didn’t do a good enough job at sound check. But there are 3 fully customizable “Quick Access” Adjustment Options right on the Touch Screen with ⬆️ or ⬇️ Buttons.
So you can set it to Gain or Volume or Mix or Feedback and adjust it with a simple touch.
