It's not just that your an awesome player and excellent teacher, it's your contagious enthusiasm! For those of us watching, it's like, 'Damn, I can learn this, I can do this, and now all I wanna do is play guitar until 5 in the morning learning all these tunes!!' Big Thanks!!!
This is by far the best lesson channel I have ever subscribed, I learnt Goodbye Blue Sky yesterday and I learnt this just in a couple of minutes, you rock dude!
Fantastic teacher! Best I have come across on the Internet! I haven't been this excited about learning new "oldies" in ages! It's like I wake up and can't wait to start practicing! It's like every day is Christmas!
I'm glad that you're getting something from my lessons. If you haven't already, please check this out sometime: www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html Cheers Andy
You are very inspiring Andy. Im very grateful for your work on this channel. I have watched you play solos I never thought I would ever be able to play. You have made me a better player. If I were in a better place I would easily hand over a pot of gold. I know my kind words don't pay the bills, I just wanted to thank you in the only/best way I can afford at this time in my life...And that is, from the bottom of my heart to the tips of my fingers, Thank you.
Andy!.... Wow, you're like a MACHINE, man, with your bends and vibrato!... Such incredible control!.. I know playing like yours doesn't come without years and years of hard work, but I still think your gifted... I got the Small Box, under the Christmas tree- a Small gift, that I'm grateful for.. But YOUR Gift, would not FIT under the tree!!.. You HEAR things when figuring out a song, that I can hear ONCE you point them out!.. I'm going to keep on working on my vibrato and bend intonation, and clean-ness of picked notes, until it sounds like YOURS. Thank you, for what you do .. 👍👍👍👍👍
This is the first song i played on our stereo cassette player as a child....from my dad's collection...most impressive! Great choice Andy, really brings it back home lol!
I also noticed that your lesson reviews the original riff, but it isn't the one on later recordings that does the hook on the D. There are also occasional string rakes moving from D/E to B on the later recording. I found the open D and the hook harder to play. But overall, this is the lesson I liked best of all as compared to others.
In 6:56 in reality it goes to the 16th fret (g#) on the high e string. You can clearly hear it when you play it with the song. Overall a great lesson from a greater person
Yeah, I realized that about a day after I posted this. The worst thing about RUclips is you can't edit your videos after they've been released, so I gotta live with that mistake. Cheers, Andy.
OMG 20 years later of listening to this song this realisation came to me after listening your solo... American Woman Solo and licks resemble the USA Anthem! I feel like everyone knows this but I just found that out! Ps, I’m not American :)
Really enjoyed your cover of American Woman, would love to see you do some more Guess Who stuff...........How about "Proper Stranger" and "When Friends Fall Out" on the American Woman album............................
This song is a good example of a riff that’s so good u can just play it the entire song. Kinda like Kashmir. Which by the way the singer of this band really has some Robert plant style sounds on this track and I think it sounds great. Would’ve loved to hear plant song this in his prime with Zeppelin
Thanks Andrew, a great classic song and truly one of the best solos for sure. Makes it even better that it came from Canada, we Raaaawk! Your lessons are always excellent, please do Oowatanite by April Wine someday?
My buddy and I have a challenge to learn and play this solo with a backing track. I think It's our 4th channel to channel challenge. You have been a great help to me especially in the last riff which was the 2bikemike Santana Europa opening riff challenge. There are still a couple of entrants outstanding. I personally suck at guitar and have no expectation of winning. I have only been playing for 4 or 5 months. My son who is 15 started playing at the same time and has progressed well. Anyway, I wish to thank you for making these videos. I find them very helpful.
Great lesson! Such an awesome solo, even though it's not complicated. Regarding his slow style of soloing, Wikipedia had this: "Bachman has stated that his guitar sound was influenced by his early violin studies, saying "when I wanted to play a rock solo, I played like it was violin... Violin is mostly slow, melodic stuff. So my guitar solos tend to be smooth, slow lines."
I noticed there are riffs at the end of American Woman that you didn't address. Can you provide a new tutorial for the end of the song? It would be greatly appreciated.
yes its sometimes hard to see how the original band did it live, the camera does not stay on the guitar, it looks at the singer, or the drummer, or their faces
No problem your one of the best.. I'm 65yrs old and retired so I figured I'd try to learn to play the guitar..it's one of hardest things to learn..lol I've played drums for about 30 years that is nothing compared to learning the guitar..scott
Sorry, but you wrong in two parts after the long lead, the main guitar starts on D chord not on low e string,or maybe i am wrong and you did not go the deep on the deail. Listen and you will notice and thanks for the leads it help me a lot i like how you teach you very patient.
Didn't he use a fuzz pedal a bit on the solo bits on the studio version of the song? Sounds to me like there is a bit of fuzztone going on in the song on the solos.
With all due respect, I think you should do a quick run through of the tune at the beginning of your videos for more advanced players who can See And Play and don't need the slow breakdown.
Hey Mark. I guess you missed or didn't read the text at the start of the video...I ALWAYS do a demo of each song I teach. I do them in separate videos most of the time. It's always best to follow the link to my website. It's in the description box, the card, and the first pinned comment. I have all of the videos on the same page so it's a lot easier to navigate. I actually put a huge amount of time and effort into making the demos. ..Cheers, Andy
@@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials Thanks for that Andy. ... Now I'm an even BIGGER FAN of your work. .... Cheers Brother. ... (p.s. .... you've convinced me to take the pick up covers off my '59 Reissue. ... yours looks HOT!

Question, The Acoustic intro was in "open G'" tuning. Since you didn't say if the electric guitar parts were in "open G" do we "assume" it's in standard tuning?

I can hear the enthusiasm in your voice. Great lesson! Why don’t you respond to your you tubers or at least some if ya?
This is the most accurate lesson I could find online, all the others were simply wrong and sounded like it. Thanks for the great lesson!

The best lessons on the net! Never misses a note and plays every one of them perfectly!!

i love this guys lessons he plays like its meant to be played
The tone from the little solo at the beginning was MEATYYYYY
I've listened to this song many times and have never noticed that bend until you pointed it out! Great work brotha!
Your narrative is as interesting as the lesson itself. I'd forgotten how much I like these songs.
Iconic song from back in the day , you've done a great job with this !
You totally kill these lessons.. thanks for all the help that you give me.
I'm a beginner at playing the guitar. ( about a month now) just wanted to say if I get half as good as you are I'll be thrilled..
This is the first song i played on our stereo cassette player as a child....from my dad's collection...most impressive! Great choice Andy, really brings it back home lol!
Your guitar seems to have so much depth here; sounds great! Awesome job as usual on this lesson. Thanks!
That minor to major third "country but not country" lick is so cool. I got some jamming to do now.
Best lesson I've seen on RUclips. And the Intro part lesson -- that's exactly how Bachman's original sounded to me.

Right you are on the pull off. It can be clearly heard on the studio version, long and short. Great stuff! Donate people!
That solo is jawdropping!... thank you for sharing your guitar knowledge!

so is this main rhythm riff/progression also in "drop D" tuning like the intro is ?

Nice lesson SU&P. Would you consider covering Cream Crossroad from "Wheels Of Fire"?
Thanks James. I did the Crossroads main lick, intro, and 1st solo here: www.shutupandplay.ca/crossroads--intro-and-1st-solo.html
Thanks..

That tone....
Hi, Quick question :)
I read somewhere you use 10-46 gauge strings on your Les Paul. Did you use 10-46's when making this video?
LOL, I only ask because you bend them like there 7's.
Brett Weber they dont make 7s lol
No? Hmm.. Ask Billy Gibbons or at least check out the Dunlop string company
Why do I imagine something so simple as DIFFICULT? 😮
CONFIRMED! Watched the American Woman RUclips video by Theghost9000, and right at 2:04 you can see he releases the D string for an open strike.
Question, The Acoustic intro was in "open G'" tuning. Since you didn't say if the electric guitar parts were in "open G" do we "assume" it's in standard tuning?
Yes, the electric is in standard tuning.
@@waynzwhirled6181 Thank you
what kind of pedal do yo use in the solo?
Wow amazing what amp you used?
There's a link to my gear page in the description box below each video. I list everything I use there. Cheers

Ahhhh, I see now, Sensei.
Hey bro I'm kinda hearing on the last half of that intro hook it goes to a high G not E then B then C# then D ??
It's actually G#... but yeah, you're right...
7th is a chord tone.
I wish you showed tabs or said what fingers are on what frets all the time. It's hard to just watch and see it.
