Yeah god forbid we do our job. Im a USPS clerk and we have to do all that stuff...circle the survey, blah blah. The hazmat question is pretty important tho nobody takes it seriously. Yes, I get it, you're a regular customer, you ship a lot and are familiar with how the mail system works, just answer the question. I wish sellers could work here for one day to see what we go through. So much hate and so little credit smh.

I worked at a Kinko's for years and we always had annoying garbage we were forced to do at the counter. If we got mystery shopped and didn't do the thing, we would lose our quarterly bonus. Not individually; we would lose it for everyone in the store. You better believe we stuck to the script.

We appreciate all and most sellers know you're just doing your job. we are all human and get aggravated at the little things especially when you sell us every day monday to saturday and you go through the laundry list of questions. Its just me and you in here do you really need to ask me all that lol. i know the rules. it reminds me of the scene off of meet the parents where ben stiller is trying to get on the plane to go home and theres nobody in line or in the gate area and the ticket agent wont let him on the plane till she calls his row. the look on his face LMAO thats how we feel. all kidding aside i hope your're doing good and i apologize for any seller that gives you a hard time for doing your job

That’s what I realized. I complained once about a package crammed in the mailbox causing the door to open and it just started raining. I got it out shortly after it was put in there and nothing was damaged. It wasn’t the regular carrier and I realized the actual carrier could have been rushed, new - learning his job, on overtime, not familiar with the route any number of things. I had to thank them for all the many deliveries I receive every day with no problems.

Talking mail abuse, I just bought a video game a couple weeks ago. It was wrapped in a *Priority Mail Express* padded envelope, inside of a *Priority Small Flat Rate* box, all in another padded envelope, and shipped via *Media Mail*. It's like they were trying to abuse the system as much as possible.

I've been selling and shipping vinyl for 30 years and always using media mail. I've noticed that there will be times when the postal employees are more sensitive about it and ask more questions, sometimes even if they know you and know what you ship. I can only assume that the instructions to do this comes down from the higher ups. I figure they have no personal stake in it. I always work to maintain a good relationship with the counter folks so I just smile and go with the flow. Keep up the good work, man.
I love the channel and love seeing the items you sell. WAY more interesting than clothes.

For anyone that is getting harassed by the post office workers or ones where they make you wait in line to scan your boxes. you can schedule through USPS.com for them to come and pick up packages from your house. The carriers are in a hurry and usually will just grab your stuff scan it and go without the laundry list of questions. That way you're not dealing with them or that PO anymore. I would also google for any shipping stores in your area. Theres a USPS,fedex, and UPS all in one store near my house that i usually drop my packages off at and there is never a line there. Also if they are small to fit in the blue bins or in the dropbox inside just drop it off there. Also surveys on their customer service go a long way

This time a guy waiting in line said "what the hell? How come he doesn't have to wait in line? That's BS". Long time USPS employee John shut him down by saying "sir his packages are ready to ship with shipping labels ready and affixed to the boxes. You could do the same yourself and not have to wait in line. Directions are on USPS.com". :D

  • @uwsupergirl

I sell mostly media. Never got side eye for using media mail. I know it's kinda funny but think you should refrain from calling USPS employees "lazy". I know people who work for USPS. One works 50 to 60 hours a week and deals with never-ending garbage I'd never tolerate. He has a modest home, never complains, and is close to retirement so isn't leaving but I don't think he's lazy. The lady complaining about the counter and getting endless questions ...who DOES that anymore? I do my own shipping labels through eBay or pirateship-even my own personal packages. Hassle free. After initially tanking after stock market tanked, my sales are up 143% vs same time last year. Media mail is my bread and butter sales and 95% of my items get sent via USPS and I haven't had a damaged package or lost package in almost 20 years. I think that's pretty good.

I ship from Canada, and use UPS when sending items across the border, if you have a PO Box I am forced to use Canada Post and the shipping cost is at least double, So an item that should be 10 (CAD or 7 USD) quickly becomes 20 (it costs 12 for tracking alone in Canada) Seeing a US PO Box is a nightmare because you could send the item for a couple dollars but for me it turns into 20, plus ebay charges 10% of shipping on top of the actual price for fees so its hard to be competitive in any market plus there are tariffs crossing the border so a ten dollar hat is now 10 + 20 + 3 + whatever the fee is at the border, you sell it for 10 and 4 shipping right

Question- What is the most ridiculous complaint or comment you have ever been messaged on eBay. I’m sure you have had some classics. I once had a guy message me he threw away the comic I sent him because it was damaged. Didn’t ask for a refund or an exchange just commented that he threw it away. Oh and it was 6 months after he bought that book. Just cracks me up. Love the channels and the podcast keep it up!

This didn't happen to me but another seller had a buyer say that they threw the item away because it was damaged or not as described in some way. They actually they were going to get a refund.
Many years ago, I sold a portable MP3 disc player. I described it according to the info on the package. One of the specs was a jack. After the buyer received it, she filed a not as described claim because there was no jack. She thought a jack was a separate item. I had to explain to her that a jack was the hole on the side of player to plug in the headphones🤦🏾‍♀️.

My post office is good about just letting me drop off. Even if all registers are in use, they have a longer counter that people that send lots of packages out can still use to drop off. It is all good as long as 3 or 4 people that do drop offs don't show up while they are busy and can't clear that out in time. If it is empty in there, I just hand to clerk and she knows that I don't take a receipt and thanks me for coming in.

FedEx has a delivery option called Smartpost. How that works is your package gets delivered to the Post office and then the Post office takes it the rest of the way. FedEx does not deliver to Post office boxes. This service however takes 2- 9 business days. Also very careful on calculating your weights . They go by dimensions. They will charge that extra amount. FedEx would be the last choice

When I first started going to the USPS location I go to now they did not allow counter drop offs either. I think it depends on the head person in charge because it changed a couple of years later. You may have to drive further and check out other locations for drop offs but if you do lots of packages daily it will pay off and using a scan sheet will help them speed up the process.

@ All The Things and others with USPS complaints. I "feel ya" but keep everything n balance ... getting PO'd all the time will shorten your life and give up control. I'm and Amerca born and raised but I've lived now in a country (The Philippines) that basically does not _have_ a postal system. Credit card companies, for example, hire their own motorcycle messengers to deliver their monthly bills because the Post Office here would never get them delivered within a month. Obviously, I like living here because I'm still here but OMG do I mss the USPS some days. The idea that day after day you can just drop off packages and they get delivered? A real blessing, trust me. Be kind to your postal clerks and mail carriers. They have to be out there breathing in everyone's virus germs day after day ... the USPS is a real blessing much of the world will never have. Better hope they don't close ;-)

Lonnie told us he'd be pulling the wrong thing on purpose to test us. Let's hope this Shelby was one of those ...
Also, as a heads up, MANY international buyers will avoid the GSP at ALL costs. From a buyer standpoint there's nothing but problems, including package damage, horrendous cost and wait times. KY opens and inspects every single package and they NEVER repack it the way it was originally packed. All of that new liability then falls back to you and reflects poorly on you as a seller, not on them. I don't ship GSP, EVER. It's not worth the risk.

I do use USPS a lot, but not getting forced into paying double the cost for shipping. I also have a note that if they need PO Box address to just message me, if it is small or light item or close by state I lift the restriction otherwise I add extra cost. Just the other day I sent out an item Home Delivery for $22, USPS wanted $46 that adds up quickly. The stupid part is Smart Post is delivered last mile by USPS, but we’re not allowed to use PO Box with Fedex.

Just for your info I have bought item GSP from USA to UK and yes we have to pay a lot usually £24-28 postage per item (for your shipping to Kentucky, postage to UK and taxes) even a $1 item.
But FYI in the UK we only pay import taxes for items that cost £15 and over . So if I were to buy something that is the equivalent of £15 or under from the USA I’d prefer not to have GSP as I can only pay for the item and postage.
Over £15 without GSP our post office (Royal Mail) will charge the import tax (VAT) which is about £3-4 PLUS their £8 handling fee
So that is cheaper than GSP but it’s something to consider not using GSP on smaller items if you can use pirate ship!
    £15 is approx $18.50
    Hope that helps

Hey Lonnie, just curious if you pay for all your store fronts on ebay or just pay one and the others are free version? Cause the free version you can't have sales or categories & many other extras.

The Post office has to ask you about the survey the same way McDonalds has to ask "Do you want fries with that" They can get fired if they dont. These are tough times, give`em a break. Be glad they`re even open!

Kebmo338 most places have an policy that if the customer says they’ve already heard it they don’t need to say it again. Most of the game stores I goto frequently have the same policy for their rewards cards, specials, etc. since going in frequently I don’t hear it from any of them.

Hey Lonnie! Sometimes I list pricier large items with free "economy shipping" so I could pick whatever is cheapest based on buyers location - PO boxes totally screw that up when it's usually FedEx or UPS that I would choose . That's the only time I've refused po boxes if it limits my choice to only USPS and is unaffordable. I've since started boxing my large items when listing and going with calculated "shipping on top" which has alleviated this issue entirely and increased my profit margins - it's a little more work in the listing stage but worth it I think!

I like the shipping info. I just started in February and getting everything correct is tough. Plus I'm just doing USPS and PIrate now and need to start using FedEx because it looks like it can same some money. Whats the best way to get started with FedEx. I've done about 1k in sales my 1st couple of months.

I never had someone order wher i needed to send it to a po box. But if someone does order to a po box i probably need to cancel the order or they need to pay extra. Because the shipping service i have a contract with (DHL) doesn't send to po boxes.

That would make sense the issue I experienced was for a 1lb pkg being sent via USPS. As a seller you can set your auction up to block shipping to a po box. When I tried to pay for this Ebay message said this seller does not ship to a po box. I could go no further with my purchase. I like DHL service, good luck with your sales.

It took some time but my post office now just asks if i'm dropping and I say yep. If they see me waiting in line to drop they will tell me that I can just drop and go. Super cool of them. It did take awhile for them to get to that point. Once they figured out that I knew what I was doing they were super cool.

I was laughing about the USPS dance answering their questions. I started dropping off my packages on their shipping dock. With the C word I don’t go in or touch anything there...just pull around back and leave them by the door. Only down side is my packages don’t show up in USPS system until it reaches their second facility.

Oh gosh, All The Things' comment made me think of my post office. They're all SO nice but there's 1 employee that has to go through the whole "is anything fragile, liquid, perishable, potentially hazardous, perfume, or lithium battery" then once they're done scanning my packages "Do you need any stamps, envelopes, or packing supplies?" Every.single.time. They see me at least 3x a week. They know that the answer is always going to be no.
I try to just drop packages off without waiting for a receipt but sometimes when I sell a bundle, I like to have a receipt that shows proof of weight. That has saved me from being scammed a couple times.

I have one at my post office too. His name is Thomas, up until stay at home order I was going to the post office six days a week. Now I just do porch pickup from USPS. But every day Thomas should say everything you just said to me and acted like he didn't see me everyday. The other six employees call me by name ask how I'm doing ask about my kids and thank me. They never ask what's in the package or if I need a receipt.

Hello. My wife and I love your content and watch every episode! Quick question, I have seen and heard many ebay resellers say that as buyers, our responsibility ends once we ahve safely dropped the item off at the post office. However, Ebay's return policy states that would only be the case if you can provide tracking AND delivery confirmation to the buyer. I had an item get "lost" in transit, and tracking shows on it's way but it's been way too long! I'm going to issue a refund then take it up with USPS. Your take please?

Understood in that case. My most recent issue was for a Ebay purchase I tried to make for a 1 lb item going from WA to OR via USPS. I messaged the seller he said sorry I never ship to a po box. I was just curious why sellers would not ship to a po box for a small USPS item. It seems like they would lose out on a lot of sales. Great video I like Lonnie's question and answer sessions.
