I definitely think getting Bill from Bill Making Stuff on the podcast possibly to discuss kitbashing/scratch building your own models could be amazing!
There is definitely some special sauce about LOTR for getting new folks to try wargames. You couldn't pay my wife to give 40k a go but the second she saw a box of the fellowship she wanted to play.
Didn't expect a Third Age bit on here, but it is very much appreciated. Lost many an hour to that thing after school way back when. To give some context to the twatting on Sauron at the end; there is none. You go from a ever so cringey conclusion to the story after beating up the Nazgûl with Aragorn, a loading screen happens, and your party is suddenly standing in front of the eye. Just because of the IP value. And that’s nothing compared to something like LotR. So I can image the headache.

Loving this new format guys. Great entertainment. Makes building and painting what seems like a million Gitz sat before me a lot less tedious. Keep em coming.
An interesting note on licenses: GW made LOTR models back in the 80s, and retain that license to this day. The deal with New Line Cinema was to produce models, rules, and scenarios based on the imagery of the movies, as ajoint venture. As soon as Return of the King was released, New Line sold their share of the rights and any say in creative direction to GW for a token fee, thinking there was very little money to be made. GW rubbed their hands with glee and immediately started making Tom Bombadil, the Barrow Wights, and all the other stuff that wasn't in the movies, reimagined in the aesthetic of the movies, because they still held the original license and were no longer bound by New Line's desires. No idea what was renegotiated when The Hobbit entered production, lol.
Bloody loved this, discovered both you and Benji went you went shopping with Luke & Josh. Awesome to see you together again and loved this new podcast.
You know, it took me a little while into this podcast to realize... That's... certainly a pose for Venom Snake. Edit, and side note: I really like the haphazard look to the table. It's very easy to tell that you've flexed your movie/video production skills for this, by all means. But there's something very "human hobbyist" about the table, with the recording software showing, boxes stacked, cords for the lamps showing.... It's comforting, dare I say.
Hahaha! Thank you! We used a lot of older equipment attached to old equipment, running off dummy batteries approach for the permanent set up. It’s very scrappy but we’re proud of it haha
On the perpetuity thing; I got into this stuff first time round, and can just about remember happy teenage contemporaries remarking a White Dwarf that featured conversions of the Treebeard kit to make a variety of Ents. It's not quite deodorant tank, but it's very not the company today.
Lord of the Rings The Third Age! Bizarre game, they dont make em like that anymore. Especially since your party was just sort of following behind the fellowship, keeping just off screen i guess
On the whole 28mm scale thing: My rough guide is "1 inch is 5 foot". It's not exact, but it's close and it works for visualising how big something is, how tall to make walls etc.
Dave, "Benji, you are user request... and the user who requested you is here right now, in the Hobby Dungeon!" The sound on this chat-cast is excellent, and the three of you are great at not talking over each other.

1:10:00 I went to a cinema screening of the extended version of the Two Towers a couple of weeks back. Ticket price included a beer and popcorn. 1) So it doesn't exactly excuse the new barbarians from the north, but a fun fact is that Tolkien read a-dn in his own words- "rather liked"- the Conan stories. Let that sink in for a hot second - Tolkien hated Dune, liked Conan, I don't know about you, but I love that. And that Aragon from the old 70's(?) animated film does have kind of a suspiciously Conan look to him... maybe there is room for these kinda guys. Not that I think it's a particularly good (or bad) execution of the concept. 2) We can't be surprised, GW did do this exact crap with the original version of the Dol Amorth Knights who were definitely just warhammer high elves. 3) Speaking of Conan though I reckon the old McFarlane Pallantides figure would be a great mic holder. Also google him and imagine that as Aragorn for a second and let all these things merge together. I'd watch that version of LoTR. 4) I watch because I reckon you're a cool and decent guy with a lot of wonderful stories and opinions about things I also like and care about. But I never imagined I'd be jealous to not have gone to your wedding.
Whenever someone gets tetchy about how a new edition "destroys" the old edition of the game, I like to point out that my uncle still plays AD&D 2nd Edition, released in 1989. Heck, I'm not a huge fan of D&D type rules but if I *was* going to play a D&D game I'd probably go for AD&D 2e as well.
