"We spent 14 years breaking everything and now you've got in power you say it'll take a while to fix them. Come on man, you've had 14 years in opposition to come up with ways to fix our mess!" The sheer ridiculousness and lack of embarrassment from these clowns. He even sat there grinning and chuckling as Wes responded, knowing what he just said was ridiculous. 🤦♂
The Tories have absolutely no credibility when it comes to social care (or pretty much everything else actually). It was with the introduction of the NHS and Community Care Act (1980) that prevented local authorities from being providers of care. Thatcher knew full well that this act, with what she called the mixed economy of care, would lead to a crisis in social care, and that that crisis would then decimate the NHS which would then provide a mechanism by which she and the Tories could privatise OUR NHS. 40 plus years forward to the current time, the Tories plan very nearly worked, and may yet result in the destruction of the NHS and social care - that is to a large extent up to the British electorate. People need to recognise that when it comes to health and social care, Tories only see a way for them to line their filthy pockets at the expense of the British public. If you want an example to substantiate this, just look at the disgraceful way they behaved and defrauded the public during the Covid fiasco, with all the fraud that took place and the many lives needlessly lost because of the Tory mindset and failure to act appropriately for the general good of the British people, whilst they were complicit in fraud, lies and deception.
The most bizarre thing is that effectively the Tories are saying the system desperately needs fixing, so hurry up. They say this without a shred of irony, despite being the cause of the dire situation. The Conservative Party have torched any trace of credibility they claimed to have.
The problems that have been inherited it seems is the fault of this Labour Government who have had 14 years to form a plan of how to fix the issues and should have fixed the problems in six months. This Tory MP has most certainly got the cheek to stand there a deliver such comments, I am trying to keep my comments above board but in reality find it hard.
This is why Labour are never going to get the media on their side - Want to implement the last inquiry recommendation on women and girl safety? No, you should run another inquiry first! - Want to run an inquiry about the state of NHS and what it needs? No, you need to take action first! Yes, these are different issues and situations, but the point is that it does not matter what the issue is or what Labour does; the Tories and their friends in the media will always complain.
The longer the tories play politics with a range of issues and don't Reform themselves the better for Labour in the long run. Away from social media people can see the tories are bankrupt.
We absolutely do not need another public enquiry, just an excuse for politicians especially the Tories to kick the can down the road for years. Just implement the 2022 enquiry recommendations.
A very good point there. If we decided that we needed yet another review, we would find in another 10 years that little or no progress would have been made to safeguard vulnerable women and girls. What do you think the Tories would have to say then. Perhaps ignoring their part in the failure but instead proclaiming how Labour had let everybody down and been a huge failure. They would say that only the Tories can sort this problem. There would be no mention of the 14 years of Tory lies, deception and failure to act. No mention about how they had caused the can to be kicked further down the road because of their insistence on yet another enquiry. Lots be candid. The Tories are little more than a bunch of self serving hypocrites and the many who support them are part of the problem that will ultimately result in the ruination of our once great nation.
How can anyone have any credibility when they criticise Labour for not fixing a mess that they ackowledge was created after their 14 years in Government ? How can anyone make such a ridiculous statement?
The Speaker can pick one to ask a secondary question. It basically signifies their desire to speak. They may be given time or given way to by the Minister.
I agree, it was a strong reply. But, what is the point of these ‘debates’? Where does this playground bleating at each other actually get us? Genuinely, what is the purpose of these daily Parliamentary slanging matches?
You’re right, for Kier Starmer to politicise the members of public (and victims) calling for a full public inquiry as “far right” is disgraceful. On the other hand, the Tories are just as bad - they had 14 years to get to the bottom of this and they did nothing. This Labour have a real opportunity to rewrite this mistake but unfortunately it doesn’t look like likely to happen.
@ He did, he accused those people of jumping on the bandwagon of the far right which is completely false and victims of the Grooming Scandal such as Sammy Woodhouse has denounced his comments. I get you’re a Labour voter and want to defend him, but this has ZERO to do with politics and those who have let victims down (current Labour ministers, former Tory ministers and certain policing bodies) must be called to account!

My thought exactly.
'Work with us' lol.
Rule 1: Never, ever trust, depend on or believe a Tory.
to be fair, he is correct on one point:
labour had 14 years in opposition...
aaaaand... that's it...
If being in opposition is the time for getting things done - the tories have been in opposition for 6 months, when are they going to start?
The hypocrisy is staggering from that lot.
And they had 14 years in power to destroy all they are complaining about now. No Tory has ever said anything i care to listen to. How dare they.
The press and media never ever mention the Johnson care plan he had ready to go in 2019, did the dog eat it?

Promises?. Translated to LIES.

telling labour to have a inquiry tories had fourteen years to have one never kettle calling pot black

The Tories never had a plan, and just as Trump once famously said, "I have a concept of a plan"
All of a sudden the Tories get a moral compass, spineless gits.
Social care: "Don't have an inquiry, do something now". Grooming: "Don't implement the inquiry, have another inquiry". Unbelievable!
I've heard this "14 years in opposition to make a plan" several times now and it has never not been a damning indictment upon whichever tory says it.
