I would also like to mention that this highly depends on the type of gameplay - whether it is expected to have in-air mechanics (like Spiderman or Horizon) or not (like RDR2). Because it would be annoying if the character would ragdoll or scream every time you fall only for you to activate parachute.
I guess for a game like GTA 6 if there’s no parachute equipped they could scream and panic but if it’s equipped they’ll act calm

RDR2 upon release blew my mind like no other game prior. Such a gem.

It has the highest standard for AAA, but personally I find it too boring, maybe because I don't have much time anymore as I used to be, the long animations and slow gameplay isn't for me exactly
Not saying rdr2 is bad, but I just prefer combat based games like GoT and cyberpunk, they also have great story but i don't think they can match rdr2
Falling animation in Mirror's Edge probably the best one I've seen. Gives you chills down your spine.
I love how in most of these the characters don’t scream they just go with it
To be fair, most of them can take high jumps easily cus theyre super humans, you just made them fall bad but otherwise they shouldve survived it

As a skydiver, I can say that RDR2 has the most realistic falling animation. Falling with your back down and spinning is what you would expect from an inexperienced person. GTA V also appears realistic. I appreciate the animation from Spider-Man 2018 as well, since his body position resembles the "tracking position" performed by skydivers. However, in this position, he should also move vertically.

@@natskeee3200Experienced skydivers (and I assume Spirerman is experienced :D) can go horizontally faster than vertically. In the video he's barely moves forward.

I love how Rockstar added the screaming to your death clear back in 2007, while only a couple of the modern (non-Rockstar) games in this video have that. Also the falling back first animation starting in 2013 with GTA V. Their attention to detail is truly unmatched.

Which is lame as hell tbh, Spider-Man is a strong character, but he is not THAT strong. The charm of the character is just that, he is the underdog, pretty much all the Spider-Man villains are stronger than him. I wish they added a last second animation before the falling (like what Gotham Knights did) or simply let the character die.. the superhero landing in this instance is just not good

Bridge up towards the College of Winterhold has a further drop. Throat of the World is the highest point though. You can either live or die from jumping great heights in Skyrim if you have the Become Ethereal Shout. You'll take 0 damage. Handy to traveling down mountains faster. I wonder.. an idea struck me, gonna test it tomorrow.
I never actually tried it myself even though I've spent 80 hours when replay time is factored in, but the landing in Spiderman is so sick!

To be fair, cyberpunk does have falling animations, but not any while your gun it out (considered in-combat animations) because there is a lot of mid-air combat. So it would be that great if you double jump and slow down time to shoot a guy in the air, but you are stuck in a falling animation.
Now let’s see the gunplay in Horizon.
Totk would be fun. There’s a spot above lookout landing that would take about 3 minutes of falling to hit the bottom. If you fall into a chasm it would add another 30 seconds.

Red dead redemption 2 is a ASTRONOMICAL MAGNIFICENT masterpiece of gaming. Insane how it was made in 2018 but it did take a LONG time for it but it is still impressing.

man, Rockstar still the best out there to deliver more detailed animation to their games. RDR2 makes all these type of games like a joke for real, if you spent a lot of hours in RDR2 and then play other games quite like it, when it was feel normal or good before, it would actually felt clunky and downright bad after lmao

What works in RDR2 doesn't work in other games because games have different concepts. RDR2s long and detailed animations would suck ass in a game like Horizon Forbidden West or The Witcher 3 because the enemies you face would easily kill you. RDR2 is clunky, the controls are not mapped well and the characters have too many awkward slow movements sections which are so unnecessary. What I fear is Eventually rockstar will make a game where you have to Press X to breath and to blink O for "Immersion".
Rockstar is the goat their games are well optimized you don't need like a space computer to run them smoothly and they do great job

Games are all designed differently is what I am saying making every game like RDR2 is just DUMB and saying games are worse if they are not is just as DUMB.

Horizon side quests just feel like a bunch of checklists and a slog to do.
@@Gentlemen883 they were different and rarely felt repetitive. I mean I can’t remember most of them but I do remember one thing, they enhanced the main story characters and many side characters with good story telling and cutscenes. The side missions used the world to their advantage like that one in Las Vegas where you add more light to the already bright city.

I remember finding a glitch in Dying Light 1 where you could jump off any high point and survive as long as you landed on top of a car. Had quite a bit of fun with that, made for some very exciting escapes from zombies.
it is not a glitch, you can survive if you land on cars, vans, and trash

Till this date i feel gta 5 has the best physics, be it a character losing their balance or falling from heights. And not to forget their voice when they are falling. The pain and regret feels very real.

In HFW, a lesser known feature is you can go in the settings and set your shieldwing to auto-deploy right before hitting the ground.
