Ohtani's hitting method is completely different from that of most major league players who swing with the power of their arms. His hitting method is to catch the optimal sweet spot of the incoming pitch at the moment and hit it just right. Therefore, he does not swing with arm strength, and his swing appears to be light and smooth. This is probably supported by the strength of his legs and hips, with no swaying of the axis of his torso, and his natural good dynamic vision. He trains his lower body intensively, so his legs and back, core, and axis are stable and unshakeable when he swings. This is because of the strength of his trained legs and back muscles. The roots appear to be an extension of the "meat hitting" method used in Japanese high school baseball to teach students who are still weak and skinny. It also has something in common with the long-hitting swing theory of golf. In his case, however, this may have been possible because he was a pitcher from a young age. In order to reduce the burden on their overworked arms and shoulders, pitchers focus on strengthening their lower body, including their legs and hips for core and axis stability. If his training methods as a pitcher for more than a decade since his boyhood have had a positive effect on his hitting, it may be because he is both a pitcher and a hitter. In addition, if you look at his practice swings, you will see that he does not have a swing that is just swinging around. In every at-bat, he try to deliberately aims to hit just the right pitch at the right time. It looks like he is practising his timing to increase that just-meet probability. He appears to be hitting every practice at bat with image training in his head for the game. And in every swing, his body axis is stable and his body rotates smoothly around his hips without any swaying. It is a very lean swing with high efficiency in transferring power to the ball. It is completely different from players who use their arm muscles to swing with force. What's interesting is that other players who were just swinging at first are gradually challenging Ohtani's swinging style. (lol)
Ohtani’s batting practice today was not for the regular season but for the Home Run Derby! Today's performance gave me hope that he would surely set a terrific new record for the Derby this summer.
Ohtani's swing is not by arms, it is by the upper body's flexibility, and with his head unmoved straight, waiting for a ball coming into his "batting zone" and once it comes into it, he can hit the ball at the axis of the bat. What is the most impressive about Ohtani's batting is that there is no "dead zone" so that any pitcher can't find a "good" spot to strike him out.
No way he steals 50. I can see 50/30 but no way he exceeds 30+ steals. I do think he will be in the top 10 in runs scored though if he bats 2 with Freddie behind him at 3
@@JPuReTaLeNt He had 46/26 while starting 23 on the mound. He's still one of the fastest guys in the league. Not pitching, he doesn't have to manage his exertion. Unless baserunning somehow interferes with his elbow rehab, I think he's going to be a demon on the bases.
@@yamamancha he could if he wanted to. Definitely can pull it off. I just don’t see Roberts giving him the green light. Even when he isn’t pitching they are prob gonna try to conserve him anyway he can. Definitely think he can steal 30 but I don’t think they’ll allow him to run like crazy. Hope I’m wrong though, I own Shohei in all my fantasy leagues 😂
Yeah I don’t understand it either but I’m assuming that he is not putting so much pressure on the elbow as when he was pitching, but still the biceps are always been used.
Yeah, understand your concern. I guess he knows what he's doing though. FYI, Ohtani had surgery with his right arm. But he hits with his left arm. Also, this is a batting practice with someone throwing balls so that the batter can practice hitting. Ohtani has not yet hit a ball from real speed pitchers in the camp. Because Shohei is aware he is still in the rehabilitation process and what the impact of around 90 mph can do to his right arm.
That's why he isn't hitting live pitching yet! But because his repaired pitching elbow is his right arm hitting left he can do this without hurting his surgically repaired arm.Same with Harper

So that’s why his batting form is so elegant and nice to watch
im not reading all that but yes hes a beast!!

Love Shohei 🦄💙🤴💥😍🔥

I love watching Ohtani and Outman chat it up while doing arm circles, looking like elementary school kids out there having a good time in PE
Los DODGERS son los #1 le pese a quien le pese
welcome to the Ohtani show....and some other guys in Dodgers uniforms.
Exciting. 😁😁😁
Great compilation!!!
Dam I actually feel like Shawn Green's record will finally come to an end. Ohtani is definitely going to hit more than 49 homeruns.
I'd sure hate to bat after Shohei in the lineup. There'd be no runners left on base.
Shohei is going to have a 50/50 season. I don't think anyone has done it in MLB history, so it's fitting that Shohei be the first.
has there been a 50/40, or a 50/30?

who ever playing a day to remember give that mf a raise !!!!
Hard to understand how hitting a baseball with such force is a good thing on a surgically repaired elbow?

He bars left throws right the stress is on the left arm when he bats

@@getlucky1414 makes sense. I think Othani should be ok as long as he doesn’t over grip or over swing.

Why are you harping on batting practice? So what Ohtani hits more HRs in BP?
He is working on placement and not yet ready for live pitching. Needs to be careful since not yet 5months post op only
I Love Ohtani to me he’s Our Modern day Babe Ruth
大谷はまだ30%くらいの力で打っている
I don’t understand how Ohtani doesn’t speak any Spanish at all. He’s been in Southern California for almost 8 years now. Time to learn the language 😂
Nope. Almost 6 years. Como esta!
He does chat using some English and some Spanish since in Japan often Hispanic players. In La he rarely goes out
