I am starting my vegan/plant base diet and I have to tell u that I am a little nervous. It is almost as if we are programmed to think that carbs are evil. I bought the Starch Solution and have been watching Plantiful Kiki and High carbs Hannah religiously, which is how I found you. I am worried that my body wont respond as well to the vegan/carb lifestyle. Truth be told, I lost 67 lbs in 3 months doing Michael Thurman's "6 weeks body makeover" but once I returned to normal eating, the weight came on plus 25lbs, which was devastating. I am tired of the yo-yo dieting and contradictory reports. Its like who should I believe? Anyway, that is why I found u so awesome. You remind me pf me and I know if I put my mins to something I can complete it . I just hope it is this.
@@namastemoon7442 I totally understand where you’re coming from we definitely have been programmed that carbs are bad at one point I was scared to eat too many fruits but not anymore it takes time readjustment and reminding yourself that with starch solution it’s OK! Good luck on your journey and just remember you are unlearning old habits so be kind and be patient with yourself 😁
You should check out sweet potato soul. Her meal plans and what she eats in a day are the most balanced I’ve seen. If she eats something sugary, she balances it with savory dishes later and she includes healthy fats in her cooking.
@@plantbasedsweetheart this video was super helpful explaining it a bit too --> ruclips.net/video/V7zxLIEmdxg/видео.html it really changes how you view food. I felt like, damn maybe my willpower just sucks, but nope, turns out, it's just the pleasure trap. there's also a lot about self esteem and how to be confident which is so invaluable. Hope you find it helpful too xx
I'm commenting over a year later, but Plantiful Kiki now eats more natural fats. Today is my day 1 back on low fat (long term vegan) not because I need to lose weight, but because my blood sugar is heading toward diabetes. The 50/50 plate thing is ridiculous and stressful. The goal should be eating low fat whole foods with a little added avocado, nut/seed butters, etc. Right now I'm working on the "little bit of" part. I have a tendency to eat 1/4 cup of nut butter at a time (more than once per day)...NOT good.
Hi thank you for sharing I have stopped doing starch solution for the past year and a half but I’m still PB 😊 when I started SS I was happy but then I started feeling very restricted and it was leading me to binge so now I’m focusing on eating low fat and trying to stay away from processed food as much as possible in a way I still try to eat things that are oil free but if I feel like something needs a little bit of olive oil I am not restricting myself I feel like everyone has to find what works for them
Omg! Thank you for sharing! I completely understand what you're going through regarding the starch solution. I live with meat eaters and I've never been able to stick to the program because I always felt restricted and when I tried to keep it simple, I'd end up binge eating because I thoroughly didnt enjoy what I was making. What worked for me was realizing I needed to go through a transition phase. I didn't cut out fats completely and I've seen progress. I've also made recipes from rainbow plant life or vegan richa that I tweaked to make oil free because I want to enjoy my food and that's made it much easier! Wish you all the best on your journey 😘❤
Before starting the Starch Solution I was already vegan but a junk food vegan 🤦♀️ when I started starch solution I jumped right in I think that is the problem like you said I didn’t phase into it This time around I’m going to take baby steps in that direction without pressure and restriction ... thank you for sharing your journey with me 😊it honestly feels good to know I am not alone 💚💚💚
This is a huge insight and I think you’ll see the results you want. I also need some fat in my diet and my food has to taste good. I think a big part of successful and sustainable weight loss is that the diet has to be individualized. Take what works for you and leave the rest. If you struggle through meals you’re not enjoying you won’t be able to sustain it. It’s better to go a bit slower and find a way you can eat for life. Subscribed.
I follow Mastering Diabetes but I do incorporate Dr. McDougall into my diet as well. It's very similar. Keep it up! I have quite a bit of weight to lose before I am where I'm supposed to be. I've lost 70+lbs so far, and at least 70 more lbs to go. You're doing great!😊
I struggle with the 50/50 plate as well. I just make sure there is a ton of veggies in my dish and it works for me. Maybe it is secretly 50/50? I’m losing and feel great. I do avocado too. I am much more satisfied if there’s a little avocado and if that’s what’s going to help me stick to it, then I’m adding it. Sushi bowl, good. Sushi bowl with avocado, amazing!
The best diet is one that you can stick with. I understand that you miss the fat in your meals, because fat is a huge carrier for flavour. So maybe dr Fuhrman's diet is a better fit for you, since he allows for fat but does restrict carbs a little bit. It's very technical, not as simple as the starch solution, but it's helped me lose weight quite easily and with enjoyment. Just make a big batch of soup and a big batch of salads and dressings, and you're already halfway done through the week.
I'm one who needs fat too. I found High Carb Hannah in 2017 and she inspired me to look into the Starch Solution, and I decided to ease into it. At first, I told myself, vegan and oil free, I'll eat it. Then as I hit plateaus, I tweaked things. Took out bread and processed items, focused more on whole foods. I ended up losing almost 120 lbs in two years and never cut the overt fats and never went to the 50/50 plate. And it worked for me. I just feel hungry and not satisfied without the fat. And it makes sense. Fat digests slower. If I eat a 50/50 plate without added fat, I'll be hungry 30 minutes later and can keep eating like 10 plates and not feel satisfied. I also think it's much healthier if we include fat, no oil, but avocado, nuts, tahini, etc.
Thank you for sharing it’s very helpful 💚 I feel the same without fats I tend to binge on fatty things because that’s what I’m missing versus allowing myself to have some avocado or tahini
OMG, God bless u for shedding 120 lbs! I hope u r able to keep it off and knowing u could do it is awe-inspiring. I love fats like olive oil and coconut oil, so that would be the hardest part if it, but if u continued to eat it and atill have lost that much weight then I think I will give it a try as well. Thanks for sharing and I will keep u posted
@@namastemoon7442 Hi there! I've kept it off :) I finished losing weight in 2019 and here I am 2 years later and haven't gained it back. I still eat like that mostly. Still oil free, but I do eat coconut or use coconut milk, even though that's not allowed on starch solution. But coconut is a whole food, so to me it's fine. It can be challenging at first, but there are some good videos out there that show you how to cook oil free, like saute using water or veggie broth instead of oil. An air fryer was the best appliance I bought too, since I eat a lot of potatoes and use it for things like falafel, chips, taquitos, etc. And for baking, I replace oil or butter with nut butter. Applesauce works too but nut butter still has fat so it gives it more moisture and they taste better too.
At my lowest weight since I was 20 i was 149, I had lost 76lbs by then. I’ve been going up and down for the last 5 years with my weight following the starch solution but of course cheating. I ended up putting 21lbs back on but have lost all accept 6 lbs. the struggle is real girl, I get it. I LOVE FOOD. BUT I haven’t quit, I’ve never given up. I’ve always got back up and dusted myself off and I will continue to do so. So I just wanted to say I completely understand and you’ve got my support 100%!
McDougall's Program is about eliminating all but whole food plant based, not about restricting. You can eat the 50/50 plate how many times you want until you feel satisfied but you have to start with the nonstarchy veggies and then the starchy. So there's no restricting...maybe you are referring to restriction in the sense that they don't allow for vegan processed foods..
I need flavors too. I read the books, got the ingredients, but haven't actually started eating the recipes. I'm procrastinating possibly because I need baby steps.
Are you counting calories I’m a little confused what your game plan is? I think eating plant based is really great and personally love it! But it can be hard to figure out if your new to it. Hannah definitely has good tips focusing on calorie density but that doesn’t work for everyone. Most people need to count calories and know exactly how much food your eating to figure out how much you need to eat to loose weight and not be too extreme just slow and steady. That way you don’t feel too deprived. Good luck!
you're adorable! thank you for the valuable video
Thanks 😊
High carb Hannah's recipes are delicious. I think it's important to find recipes and food that feels delicious to you
I agree. If you don't like the food, you won't stick with it. I use a tad bit whole fat and salt but way reduced. Makes food taste much better to me.
I freaking love u!!! Thank you for being so real and open.
Awww thanks 😊
