Old Rhyl: images from before WW2

  • The first image shows a painting of Rhyl sands by David Cox (1854) and the second a drawing of The Winter Gardens, Wellington Road (opened 1876). At position 0.34 are E. H. Williams' Merrie Men followed by Queens Hotel; the domed structure in West Parade is Queen's Palace. At 2.34 is Kings Avenue taken from the Oxford Grove end, followed by Water Street then High Street from the prom end. At 3.08 is Elwy Hall School followed by War Memorial Hospital, Grange Road. These pictures are from the collections of Ann Hayes, Diana & Berwyn Jones, Gaynor Williams, George Owen, Peter Trehearn and others. Slideshow compiled by Colin Jones.
