Thank you so much for posting this. From Colwyn bay but went to school in Blessed Teds, so spent a lot of time there as a kid. Work in Rhyl now, and always walk down Sussex Street and sigh. But thanks to you, we will always have a video record of it.
The 1st shop on the enterance to the hall traded as Gordons. A fantastic camp guy who had a vast stock, gift of the gab & was just brilliant as a shop keeper.
Thanks so much for having the foresight to film and post this. I've literally never seen anything so saddening. A tragedy. Thank you for at least preserving the last days.
Man, thanks so much for taking this. I was away from the UK for 5 years and when I returned I saw that it was all boarded up. I mean, it was just a matter of time. I don't know what monster it is that haunts this town, but it's eaten every last thing that had any beauty.
Was such an epic grotty building lol. I will really miss the old market hall. I think they still open a small area behind the Bright Spot arcade but as for the main hall, i belive its shut until the council figure their stuff out
Oh, I had no idea this had closed down! I used to live in Rhyl and the market was one of my favorite bits (plus the arcades)! Such a fun, quirky little place with a great local spirit. Modern shops are so bland! Everything professionally-designed for maximum blandness! So what's there now? Do they still have that little market on Wellington Road (near Les & Rita's chippy)?
Man i remember being a kid walking around these stores, right in the middle used to be a really big sweet store, and there was handbags everywhere, i always used to think the ceiling never ended, good times
Yes............who doesn,t remember this place when coming to Rhyl.....................A crying shame its going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....but online shopping doesn,t help either does it......................
Lets hope things get moving after lockdown. I used to love going in the market, There was a fishing tackle shop where I bought a Rambo knife back in the 80's (!) and later the cool vintage toy shop.
I remember going in there many years ago and it looked nothing like it does now. We could go up stairs and there was a walkway around the walls which had aquariums and glass tanks containing small reptiles.
I remember in the late 70s - early 80s there was a 'Gypsy Rose Lee' at the top of the stairs. Always remember as a child those bouncy wooden floors and it wasn't till later in my life and after a bit of research found out it was one of the first spring dance floors in europe. Such a shame....and the council play a huge blame on the decline of Rhyl.
I miss the queens market but I am happy that they b a new market in Rhyl and I am glad thet the bright spot aracade is staying in Rhyl and the o aracades as well I will like the new market a can’t wait to look in it
I remember years ago they had like a little zoo upstairs, monkeys and snakes and stuff, remember the old blue ballroom ceiling..sad it's all gone, could have been so much more
I visited this place back when the amusement arcade near it was still running. So sad the puppet machines are now gone I know the one with the limbs floating around got sold on eBay once.
omg carnt belive thats gone i remember my dad telling me about a mini zoo thay had upstairs in the 60s and i remember it being that busy you wudnt go in cus the crowds were so big what a shame , and im sorry the out ove town shops carnt be lamed 4 this

It's so sad to see this Market in such a state, it was booming in the 70's and 80's now look at it so sad
Majorly scary when I visited recently. Half the main hall was in darkness and you could hear pigeons flapping away in the roof of the building.

When was this filmed please?
This was such a good video to watch on so many different levels. Thank you.
Hi Steven, it was filmed on 21st December 2019, just before closing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@@squirrelnatkinThank you for filming it. Honestly, it means so much to me. I can't believe it's gone 😥

Such a shame this iconic building was allowed to fall into disrepair. I remember going here to buy Playstation games from Megabytes
Past there new years day nothing left . Sad no fair ground now and probably no arcades soon.
Wait its shut down now?! :(
Soon to be flattened
Some of their machines were sold to Henry Danter
Really? Was that the puppet machines? I’d love to see them again! 😊
@@squirrelnatkin Not sure, but definitely some of their rides
According to Google Maps, some of them are at Barry Island Pleasure Park
How low can Rhyl go?
Doorway 2 frankies on the right hand side..the good auld days
Must have spent hundreds of pounds in that market and we always had a coffee in the cafe,
