The fact that they have a few different patterns for the rythm, along with the intermittent parts where they all sing unison, give this whole thing a very arcane ritual type energy and I am here for it

I'm a singer and have had a variety of vocal coaching lessons. A 'tenor' is a male vocal specification. The main female range goes; alto, mezzo soprano and soprano (low to high). Bass and Baso Profunso (I can't spell 😂) are low male tones.
That clap sequence is not easy!! Nice work ladies!!
It's not as hard as people make it out to be. I learned it one year for choir in a couple days.

We tried so hard to sing this song at our winter concert, but we would've only had a week to learn it. The vocals would've been easy, but it would've taken too long for us to coordinate the clapping/snapping.
These girls must've worked very hard. ❤

Im learning this is choir but we haven’t done the hand movements yet
But the clapping is not an essential part of the song. I have loved this song for a number of years, and I have never heard it performed with the claps until tonight. Literally the first time I first saw and heard the clapping and clicking version has been in the last half hour.
It is a beautiful song, and I am not sure the clapping adds to it.

This put a legit lump in my throat, I would have been so amazingly proud if one of those girls had been my daughter! WOW.
I hope that Pentatonix starts getting more credit for their influence on vocal music, as so many choirs and singing groups adopt PTX's arrangements as their own. I hope that someday they will be acknowledged for their contribution, maybe receiving a lifetime Grammy award, or perhaps an honorary doctorate in music. They have been that influential!

Of course, they didn't write it, but if you look up at the title of this you will note the credit Pentatonix gets for the arrangement, including the charming hand clapping routine. You might go check out the original, by Fleet Foxes, then the Pentatonix arrangement, then look at this video again to understand the leadership that Pentatonix has had over the nine + years they've been a vocal band.

I come back and watch this at least a couple times a year. It sounds so amazing but you can tell most of them are focusing on the count to make sure they don't mess up. But that one cute girl with the big smile is so in the moment you can see the pure joy expression on her face. I wish I was good at something that brought me that much happiness.

I wonder how they rehearsed this? Like if they were assigned a group of 5, learned the routine, then just got in a giant circle and boom
that's actually pretty accurate. we were each assigned a rhythm, and then we rehearsed both at home and at choir. then we sat next to each other in rows and continuously rehearsed, and then got in the circle and practiced some more:)

Pentatonix came out with the best hand motions to the song. Pretty much the only reason I like this song at all. Sadly they put it on their Christmas album. I definitely do not consider this Christmas at all.
