  • The aged patriarch of the Kuru dynasty, Bhishma, understood the emotions of his grandson Duryodhana. Out of his natural compassion for him, Bhishma blew his conch shell loudly, befitting his lion-like status, to please him. Symbolically, through the sound of the conch, he indirectly conveyed to his despondent grandson that victory in the battle was unlikely, as the divine Lord Sri Krishna was on the opposing side. Nevertheless, it was Bhishma's duty to lead the war, and he assured that he would fulfill his responsibilities to the best of his ability.
Following this, conch shells, drums, bugles, trumpets, and horns suddenly sounded together in unison.
