@@TheTartKnight The guy who died (RIP) is actually one of the sound programmers of the game, I believe he was the one reponsible for the "Sunsoft bass". Remember that Naoki Kodaka wasn't a Sunsoft employee, he was a freelance composer that worked with Sunsoft -- he would write the music on paper and then it was sent to and programmed by Sunsoft's sound programmers. So both Kodaka-san and the sound programmers are to thank for this masterpiece !!
I didn't know the name of the song before about a year ago. When I found out it was this game, I tried playing it, expecting Stage 1 to be rather easy. MISTAKES WERE MADE. THIS SONG WAS NOT ONE OF THEM.
Let's see, I hear: A melody A counter-melody A bass line & drums All on a 8-bit chipset that was only capable of producing three notes at a given time. _What sorcery is this?!_
Wel, it´s infodump time I guess...!! The NES´s soundchip was actually capable of producing three tones at a time + white noise (useful for percussion) + DPCM samples, so this isn´t all that impressive polyphony-wise. I would say it´s the use of each soundchannel´s capabilities that´s truly mindblowing. The DPCM channel, wich is normally used for drums, plays a sampled bassline here, with the triangle channel (responsible for basslines in most NES games) being used to strengthen the percussion. Also, the double channel echo/reverberation/delay effects (ruclips.net/video/FpMUE9S1ll8/видео.html) are better and deeper than in most NES games, so that´s a plus. Take a look at this oscilloscope view that, if you´re relatively well-versed in chiptunes, may help you understand everything I´ve just talked about: ruclips.net/video/3zq4TJXRhj4/видео.html
Fester’s Quest, another Sunsoft game did the same. The final boss theme reuses the overworld theme, while the alien spaceship level reuses the boss theme.
Another example is Area 7 music in blaster master being used for the final boss. Yet another is Fester's Quest switching back to the first overworld theme for the final boss.
Played this while I was down in Florida for my 92Y reclass school and I gotta say...free time after class I blew hours playing the shit out of this game. First time playing and I'm surprised I didn't hear about it until it was released on the NES online for the switch. This levels music got me hooked. The second time I played this game I literally sat the controller down and took in the great soundtrack. It created a feeling of nostalgia that didnt exist. Crazy how games can do that to you 🤩
If I ever meet the composer of this fantastic track (Naoki Kodaka) I will invite him to have a drink. Doesn't matter how expensive.
I am sorry to inform you, he died at his 25 in 1995 due an illness. To be fair, I would had too, bad thing I was born after that!

When I started this game, I too realized how savagely difficult this game is. But my god is the music to this stage absolutely GLORIOUS.
This song is so unbelievably great

A melody
A counter-melody
A bass line & drums

There's no countermelody, the 2nd square wave channel is always used for reverb
The power of the NES was unbelievable for its time.
It was quite literally the next gen console.
@@crumbly8255 Yeah, when its nearest competitor is the Atari 2600 and SG1000 in Japan, its lightyears ahead.
This is the moon theme from Ducktales but on steroids.
There's actually a Sunsoft style cover of that theme.

Amazing track to an awesome game!
Though... Am I the only one getting strong Mega Man vibes from this?
Nope. I do too.
It really feels like a Mega Man X track, doesn't it?

Castlevania III did this with 'Aquarius'. Which is okay because, just like this, it's a banger track.
if it worked for Super Castlevania IV, it can work here.

love this song. sunsoft made such great music on the nes. Thx for this
Funny how a game like Journey to Silius almost became Terminator. It's funny.
MegamanNG they’re pretty alike if you think about it.
@@doodledangernoodle2517 Instead it landed in the LJN wasteland... the Terminator game they released is garbage. I kinda like the second one though.

Keep in mind how this game was supposed to be a Terminator game.
I dance to this everyday, mimicing 8-bit animation moves, like if my movestep was a vector with 4 sprites cycling.
5 people don't know shit about classic 8-bit tracks.
8- and 16-Bit music FTW
Sunsoft had some amazing composers back in the day:
-Fester's Quest
-Blaster Master
-Gremlins 2
Still have those OST playing in my head at times.
My wife heard this music and said it was cheesy.... time for a divorce, amirite?
Time for a new waifu. XD
NES best consol ever 👍

This track reminds me of Megaman X first stage somehow
