All Shadowhunters are born with angel blood, which is what makes them Nephilim/Shadowhunters. Jace has the angel blood, but also the demon blood. Also your reaction to Magnus fixing Alec's jacket... I've never related more to you. Wow. Honestly, this episode (looking back) was a least favorite for S2 because the rest top it imo. It just gets bigger and better!
But then why were they shocked when they found out clary had angel blood

Yay....you're doing season 2! Happy to be along for the ride! Oh and to clear any confusion....Jace is Nephilim which is half angel. Back in season 1 we found out Valentine was experimenting on himself with demon blood but then he took it a step further and experimented on his unborn son with demon blood to make a superior race to help kill Downworlders. Alec is in a bad place by being worried about Jace and took it out on everyone especially Magnus but Magnus held his own and Alec settled down.

basically, jace has nephilim parents but was injected with demon blood - so just as clary is nephilim with angel blood, jace is nephilim with demon blood. just an explanation for you thus far. :]
