Ok let's talk about Barbiecore and how the latest Barbie Movie is taking over interior design. This trend blends the Barbie Movie with maximalism and just a hint of nostalgia. In this video, I go over how I think you can get this look in your own home.

Nick sounds like a really nice parent trying to talk their teenager out of a bad choice 😂
Yes! That's why I love him.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA JUST WHAT I THOUGHT... THE DELIVERATED WORD CHOICES THERE...
With the two big movies out right now, I think going with the Barbie theme is a better idea than going with the Oppenheimer theme
😂
Truth 😂
I would love to see the Oppenheimer theme!!
Love it Especially the big bangs at the end
@@nerdaccountI'm pretty sure it's a joke. Oppenheimer = nuke
Nick: "I'm not saying this is a bad style."
Nick's face: "yes, yes I am."
Nick: "If you like this style, hopefully there's something in there you're enjoying beyond the movie."
Nick's face: "If you like this style, you're clearly somewhat deranged."
Ugh. As in ugly.
😂
I don't know what you mean? 😏
Nick is the prince of shade
It's a great style for 7-9 year old girly girl who loves Barbie!
Architectural Digest did a break down of Barbie dream houses through the decades and they had surprisingly sophisticated design. A lot of the furniture was copies of designer pieces. I think this trend works if people choose quality pieces and good design, not cheap plastic pieces.
I saw that video! It was enlightening.
While it’s definitely not for me, I do think the embracing of things that are thought of to be feminine is in general positive. “Girly” things are often thought to be frivolous, stupid, or even trashy. Especially when combine with youthful or “fun” things.
Maybe these things *are* really frivolous, and then get associated with women for that reason. Either way, I don't think we should accept whatever associations are made and just deal with the consequences. I was never a pink-wearing little flower and I refuse to accept I'm not "feminine" for being who I am. I don't need dresses or flowers to prove that.
I agree! Legitimacy to hot pink!
By who ? Yes, you.
yes!!!!! i've been getting back into the stereotypically "girly" pink stuff and dolls and such i had rejected at a pretty young age due to that culture of stereotypically feminine things being seen as bad/immature/over the top and so on and it's truly been healing
@@celebrityguest.9530 My only qualm is that pink is mainly seen as a girly colour like I love girly stuff but pink gets me overstimulated. You know.....like I like cartoons but not the dolls. I love all colours in girly stuff
Nick, 62 years ago I was thrilled to receive the original Barbie Dreamhouse for my eighth birthday. The one-room dreamhouse and its furniture weren't made of plastic -- they were made of cardboard. And there wasn't a drop of pink anywhere. The style was sleek and streamlined mid-century modern with a sofa, a hi-fi/TV console (with jazz record albums), and a bed. In short, it was the kind of tiny house you, Nick, would feel perfectly at home in -- except for the absence of the kitchen and the bathroom. But who needed those things since Barbie's Howard Johnson-colored sportscar was always parked outside.
Love the original Barbie, no hot pink anywhere!
I had the 3 storey 70’s one. No pink and particle board. Loved it.
I don't remember that much pink on Barbie stuff back in the 70's and 80's.
YES! I got that cardboard house as a hand-me-down around 1968 and LOVED it. The cardboard furniture was SO cool! I am sorry my mom ever gave it away, although I think we played with it until it was in tatters.
I'm sincerely hoping the Barbiecore trend goes Palm Springs or vintage Hollywoodesque. That could be a fun direction, especially for summer outdoor spaces.
All of the yesses in the world!
Was thinking the Palm Springs Desert vibes too. That’s gorgeous IMO.
VINTAGE PALM SPRINGS 🌴 always always always
I was gaging until I read your ideas.
Like Epstein Island? 🙄
"How can you achieve this look in a timeless and classy way.....?" My brain broke.
You can't say I don't try. haha
@@Nick_Lewis I kept expecting you to break at some point and declare the whole video a prank but somehow you pulled it off.
@findingmywayhome5829 I am SO looking forward to next April 1st. 😊 The Man outdoes himself.
Nick’s take is a serious one! I like pink as a contrasting color in menswear, for example, for a pop of freshness. Pink can have a Barbie-inspired moment, but it doesn’t have to be fast and it doesn’t have to look cheap. A nice pink grapefruit scented glycerin soap. A raspberry-striped tea towel in the kitchen. You get the picture.
@@Nick_Lewisyou sure do! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Barbie didn't give me "body issues", she taught me, once you remove a head, you can't fix it!!! 😂😂😂😂
Many blessings!!! 💖💖💖
😂😂😂😂
And “some hair doesn’t grow back.”
@llamasugar5478 my eyebrows feel attacked 😂
@@OneWeekTime 😂😂
She did give you, and all girls, body issues. Don't be dumb. Propaganda is propaganda
I loved playing with Barbies as a kid, but I created homes for them myself. There wasn't any pink that I can remember, but there was lime green, orange, and yellow. I had an old Barbie "mod" playhouse from the 60s and I added on to it with cardboard boxes. It was my idea of glam. Any foil giftwrap that I could get my hands on became wallpaper and I also used scraps of carpet, scarves, etc to make my own house. It was very boho. My Barbie's bedroom (her name was Valerie) was wallpapered with brown giftwrap that was printed with images of reclining leopards, and she had a faux fur leopard bedspread with green velvet throw pillows that I sewed myself. The living room had a black, orange, and yellow piece of "art"--it was a tag from a men's clothing brand called "El Toro" and of course the image was of a bull. Very 70s. Update: I googled this brand, it's called "El Toro Bravo" and they made leather jackets. I still think the logo is cool. It'd look great on a poster. Valerie had it first.
I love this! So creative ❤
Your doll Valerie's house sounds really cool actually! Very creative ideas. I like the fabric tag artwork. I looked up el toro bravo and you're right it would make a cool poster or graffic tee
Love it! Actually ended up looking for the Toro Bravo logo and wow it makes for a great poster 😍
My mom made her barbie's house in the 50s... much the same way you did. There was a lot of floral. Leftover fabric bits from my grandma's sewing stash. My barbies never had a house. They had a blue pop-up tent for camping!
I loved this! I had a big box of stuff for the kids to create with, everything from cotton balls to plastic containers, little boxes, scraps of wrapping paper, you name it. They made a five-story house out of Girl Scout cookie boxes. BEST TOY EVER! The neighbor kids came over to create with them, for hours.
Wow. Kudos to you, Nick, for treating this with adult honesty. It might have been tempting to sneer, or insert a yuck-yuck attitude or eye-rolling. Good on you for walking a fine line without condescension.
Love that there’s finally a designer helping us with pink instead of beige! 🎉🎉😂😂🎉🎉
So. Henceforth, I’m going to refer to the Pepto-Bismol pink fixtures in my 1990’s rental bathroom as Barbiecore.
Same for my mother's 1950s bathroom.
Now I know the style the previous owner had when I bought a house in 2005. The walls were Pepto Bismol pink.
The first thing I did after signing the deed and getting keys was to get a 5 gallon bucket of paint and start painting.
I would love to Barbiecore an old pink bathroom. Would be so much fun!
@@nadinegriffin5252I could totally see that working!!!
@@gloriaalex11My apartment has one of those bathrooms too. Does this trend mean I can finally find matching towels now? 😂
I LOVE this interior design style. I cannot WAIT to design my own house in this type of style. I love love love color and maximalism. I know a lot of people are saying “it’s not for me, but it’s for someone” well look no further because you found the someone who it’s for lol 💁🏻♀️💖💗💓💝💜🧡💚💙
Same!!
Nick, you warmed my teacher heart when you used the word “aforementioned”. Nice!😊
I'm going to wait a month to buy my Barbie stuff. 70% off, y'all.
90% off, free shipping, and no tax.
Yup .. this trend should last about a month .. tops .. 🙃
Don't wait too long or it'll be "remaindered" to Siberia and Uganda.
I started smiling before I clicked on your video. "How to incorporate it in a classy and timeless way?!?" 🤣 Love that you wore your pink sweater for this video, BTW.
I thought that was some hue of mauve ...
This takes me back. I forced my parents to paint my room pink in the (very late) 70’s. The walls. The bedding and I even had a pink phone on my room. And yes, I loved Barbie.
It took forever dealing with that paint later on.
Blink if you're ok Nick, did your manager make you make this? 🤣❤️
Lol 😂
😂
HAHAHA all me baby!
😂
Are we really going to see Nick talk about barbiecore or is it Nick being tormented by barbiecore?
Either way, I'm here for it
Nick is wearing pink today. So do you think he is hiding his Barbie Camper in his liquor cabinet?
That's not pink that's MULBERRY HEATHER lol
@@seaside2001😂
That grimace in the thumbnail sums it up nicely
I think both can be true.
Not in love with Barbiecore but it was entertaining hearing your ideas and attempts to bring this style to the masses in a subtle curated way lol
I love how good you are at talking about ridiculous things with a (mostly) straight face, and you really commit to giving real tips.
One thing I think people forget is that in the Dreamhouse set, Barbie/Ken/etc are also accessories to the house. So their colors/clothing patterns are compliments to the house (or should be), so you don't have to make everything pink on pink on pink. There are lots of aquas and yellows and whites in the houses too. A lot of the "Barbie" looks on social media are pretty surface level, vague childhood memory recreations of the dreamhouse they had when they were a child (PINK), and not actually what the toys themselves looked like. Grab lots of actual reference images of the toy sets. If you grew up in the 90s, figure out which trendy 90s elements the original toy designers were aping when they made the dollhouse version of them, and go for that.
everything about this!!! by all means the original dreamhouse was largely yellows and oranges and earthy tones, it's a lot more fun when you take what appeals to you and leave the rest, like barbie can be anything so why can't the decorating, y'know?
I love color and minimalism. My office has touches of pink with some flamingos mixed in. The office furniture company that my workplace used has my office in their advertising, which totally surprised me. At a conference, they even mentioned my office to other prospective buyers. All that to say, it can be lovely in restrained, but memorable, touches.
Now I have to see your office!
I love it!
Too bad you aren't getting some residuals from that...
You remind me of a friend that has pink in her office but it was done in a very restricted and curated way and I liked it, even though I am not a fan of pink.
Let's see it, for Pete's sake. Or mine.
I see this more as a fashion trend vs a design trend. But definitely check out AD’s history of Barbie’s Dreamhouse. Very fun
love your subtle pink sweater a la Barbie
I miss my hot pink bathroom. The walls were hot pink. The shower curtain had complementary colours. If I got sick of the shower curtain, I could change it. The artwork broke up the pink walls. It was mostly black and white prints of classical sculptures. There was a painting with colours that went well with the walls. It worked for the bathroom. That decor would keep me awake in a bedroom and would clash with other stuff I own.
that sounds magical!!
@@celebrityguest.9530 It was magical! I also had candles in fun colours too.
@@TheMagdalenaBB that sounds awesome omg!!!!!
I have a really minimalist neutral house (greys and warm neutrals), and the Barbie nostalgia convinced me to get a couple of hot pink accent pillows for a little while, and i love them! I think it's a fun amd healthy exploration of our childhood nostalgia and some feminine touches that havent been "cool" in a while. I wont keep pink pillow covers forever, but they can be donated to a little girl to live on once I'm done
Well it’s still definitely not a style for ME, but I’m impressed at your suggestions for making a horrible trend look…not horrible. 👏🏻
This is 100% Trixiecore 😂
💯 And we love her for it.
😂
@@Nick_Lewis Nick, we gotta get you to review the trixie motel !!! Collab with her for a Canadian version… trixie motel in tofino? Yes please
As someone who used to have hot pink hair, I am all about the Barbiecore everything! It is very specific so I am hoping to get stuff on sale in a few months
I had hot pink in the layers of my hair for 8 yrs. A vase in hot pink is as far as I go. Imo, Barbie sends a terrible message to women. What attracts you to it?
@@lesaamoore I like the ‘you can be anything’ aspect and I aesthetically like things that are very colorful. While I know that some people can be negatively impacted by Barbie culture and develop things like eating disorders, that didn’t happen to me so I don’t have that baggage.
@@mairino7799 well thanks for sharing your perspective. Hot pink is an amazing color, and pop color can be great when you’ve got the space and light. Have you seen the fashion photographer Jamie Nelson’s house with different colored rooms, like the Madonna inn almost? She’s on insta. Re Barbie…I just guess the corporate aspect of what women should look like is an issue for me, and bringing back those standards. I guess they have surely diversified by now, and I haven’t seen the movie. Though I enjoyed playing with Barbie and ken when I was a kid, I guess I felt pressured when ppl equated me to a barbie…or when I was younger to the flat chested one, skipper? (Or was that the boy? Ha. I think I blocked it out). Anyway, love that for you if you are loving it. :)
Barbiecore works better in a powder room, vanity niche, walk-in closet, or child’s bedroom/playroom. I wouldn’t, but I think picking a specific room that pairs well with the Barbie concept gives “Barbiecore” more longevity.
Pink is an interesting color because it can look classy or trashy depending on the shade and amount used. I'd like to add a bit more pink to my interior but I'm definitely going to be in the softer, gentler, muted, tidbit camp, not Barbie style.
Certa-pro is practically licking their chops right now, knowing how many pink walls they will repaint.
I went the route of a few Barbie inspired pieces: a cool black and white framed photo of a vintage Barbie and the Ruggable chevron area rug inspired by Barbie's swimsuit. Dragon Glassware also did a cute Barbie collection so I can have my Barbie moment sipping some wine without fully committing to living in a Barbie world.
A year ago I accidentally ended up with a barbie pink wall in my bedroom😅 The rest of my house is minimalist and japanese inspired, so when I first saw the wall I cried lol. I hung up a large neutral painting on the pink wall, kind of like a reverse statement art piece. The rest of the room is calming; light oak furniture, whites, textured neutral fabrics. I used some pink tones in candles around the room. It looks absolutely amazing now! I don't follow microtrends, this was just an extreme paint swatch mistake, but it did really open up my perspective on design cause I never thought I could be into something like this. I actually can't imagine going back to a more neutral color on that wall!
I just walked around my home and counted over 30 pink decor elements, I didn’t realize I was so on-trend!
Plastic + maximalist = the worst interior design fad for the environment ever?
It's very self indulgent, hence the lack of concern for the planet.
Except you can thrift vintage plastic furniture that's been around for decades and most people do try for secondhand these days.
Agreed! Makes me think of the inflatable furniture, all things ending up in our landfill. Totally wasteful.😔
i think the fast fashionification of interior design and the fact that we have interior design fad /at all/ is the actually bad thing here lmao. like im far from pro-plastic but even if it were all linen and leather, the rapid speed with which these trends and fads come and go is THE problem, and arguably fast fashion practices with natural materials are far more destructive because of the devaluing of the heavier labour and resources that went into growing/processing those textiles and materials.
As if cheap particle board furniture is more sustainable lol. You could easily thrift 80s plastic furniture and spray paint it pink my dude
maybe a brief tween bedroom redo, but that’s about it. and i like pink, but not the hot pink. interestingly, i read about the set making and they said no black or white was used. i’m old enough to remember early Barbie, and she wasn’t a total hot pink girl. her famous fabulous outfit, they all had names, was Solo in the Spotlight, a black fitted sequined floor length dress with a tulle hem. she was more glam in her early days, but later in the 60’s became what we called Mod. it’s definitely fun but not permanent.
You know what would be cool if you want to add some Barbie in your life? Some prints of old 60's Barbie ads or graphics. The original Barbie is iconic and the Barbie fashion illustrations from back then are gorgeous.
Good advice Nick. Some people tend to get carried away and it can be overdone, you really showed how it can be tastefully done.
Nick, this was a two for one special! I really enjoyed your honest suggestions for Barbiecore fans, plus I got to enjoy all the great comments too!
Love the Trixie Mattel mention!! I am so glad to hear she is fabulous and I'm so glad you saw her back stage!! 2:14
And as always, perfect video. Thank you ❤❤❤ 2:07
Although I watch Nick's videos fairly regularly, I clicked on this one because I saw the Trixie Motel room in the thumbnail.
Nick... You gotta make a video about styling a home in Oppenheimercore.
Big Booms for Big Rooms!!!
I don’t want to be the kind of commenter that comments FIRST but I just did… I feel like Barbiecore is timeless for the people that like it and that’s about it. I love being in Barbiecore spaces, but I would never have it in my own house.
Nick, you pulled off this review with complete class! Nice job sir.
So proud of you for trying to reach out to all genres of your audience. Super out of your comfort zone but you’ve done a great job of incorporating interior design into the plastic world of Barbie 👏👏👏💕💕
Pink tiles in my shower, original from 1954, is more than enough for me 😂 I wanted to remodel it but delayed, I did other parts of the house… and in few weeks the house will be for sale. The new owner will enjoy barbiecore bathroom 😎
Excellent job of classing up something that I expected to be a six-year-old's ideal style. It's still not for me, but you've made it far less horrifying than it could have been. That's talent right there.
I inherited my childhood home in Florida . It has a Mamie Eisenhower pink tiled small 2nd bathroom. Initially I was going to tear it out but somehow it grew on me and I decided to keep it. I wallpapered the 3rd of the wall above it with a Martinique dupe since I saw this pairing of pink and tropical green at the Beverly Hills hotel. I love this little pink bathroom now. It makes me happy. That's as "Barbie" as I want to go.
Well, I am considering painting my primary bedroom's ceiling the most soft muted pink I can find. Haven't found the right color yet. If anyone knows a good muted soft pink paint color please let me know. Does this count as Barbiecore? I kinda hope not. Going more for Floridacore. 😀
Yeah, 1950s Floridacore!
I grew up with pink bathroom tiles, and I honestly loved them. I think they aged much better than the infamous avocado green, harvest gold, sunset orange trio.
That sounds freaking *gorgeous*
I did my bedroom in the most pale pink I could find (two years ago) which was Valspar’s Mosaic Pink. The room has light from the south and west, and I painted the ceiling a pale taupe so as the light moves through the room throughout the day it reads as a pale coral then pink, then almost off white. It’s very pretty. Did a warm white trim.
1950s Floridacore! Sounds amazing!
You are working so hard to talk about this in a delicate way 😂so as to not “insult” anyone. We all know this is kitchy & tacky & fun! Hopefully, people don’t buy into the movie merchandising marketing hype. But, it is so fun though! Remember the 1970’s pink tub, sink & toilet? 😂
Side note: When my son was young, his favourite colour was pink. His whole room was pink Waldorf Japandi
Love how Nick steers us tactfully and gently away from losing our minds and going full on Barbie 😂
Nick! Peel and stick wallpaper as a good option for this temporary trend! Personally not a Barbiecore fan, but have had my eyes on fuchsia seating for ages. 100% re Barbie marketers doing a fantastic job.
Thank you Nick! These are great tips for incorporating your personality into a more timeless design style.
I have been bombarded with BarbieCore and honestly, kind of here for it (but only temporary). Love all the ideas and examples on how to include this look!
This was actually super informative! I think this could be applied to refreshing a space in general too. I really like blue, it’s the main color in our color palette for the home. Your advice could be extrapolated to any other color in my opinion! I love that you decided to talk about this. My daughter has a “pink” accent wall in her room (a nursery) and we went with a mauve, dusty rose pink. Toning down is definitely the way to go!
Almost as good as the April Fool’s video
I wonder whether there is a Kencore or a G.I. Joecore. Kencore might incorporate things like mirrored ceilings, leather furnishings, maybe a bearskin rug. G.I. Joecore might include camoflauge curtains (green or beige), plants potted in helmuts, and canvas bed canopies with mosquito netting.
The fact that this video was paired with you talking about the Wayfair art nouveau video has me looking at my Gustav Klimt Barbie and feeling very attacked. 😅 She was inspired by Klimt's Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I and is one of my all-time favorites! She's one of 3 dolls that I've held onto for my sentimental love of them and the only one still in her box. ❤ Fantastic as always, Nick! Thanks for another great video!
Love this and love Klimt! So cool that there’s a Klimt Barbie. Sounds like that would be a unique collector’s piece to display
I didn't have girlie things growing up like the canopy bed, etc. so I have this character inside me called "Petite Rose" who occasionally makes me buy outrageous things. My sister will go through my drawers and pull out a never-worn lacy thing and say, "Petite Rose strikes again." One tip for literally everyone: Pinkish lamp shades and pinkish light bulbs make everyone and everything look more beautiful. That's why upscale restaurants use them. Try it.
I'm a Barbie collector, have been all my life, but the Barbiecore aesthetic would only be something I do in my doll rooms. I just don't want my entire house to be my doll collection. I also don't use any pink tones in my decor outside of my doll rooms. In fact, I don't use any cool colors or red in my decor outside my doll rooms. No blue cooler than turquoise, and nothing more toward red than a coral shade. Everything between coral through the orange-yellow-green range through to turquoise is allowed, but I stay mostly in that yellow and green range, with pops of black, brown and white.
I just refilled the mason jar dish soap dispenser in my kitchen. The old one was blue, but the new bottle (that has been sitting in the wardrobe for a few months) is bright pink. I feel so trendy right now 😂
I watch the film "Gigi" almost more for the Art Nouveau than the story. Honore's apartment - "chef's kiss".
I get the feeling that the people with these wacky Barbie rooms had them way before the movie came out. They're just Barbie super fans.
There are some out there. There is a lady that is an actual living image of Barbie(surgeries and all).
Nick you obviously never owned or played with Barbie as a kid😄. My favorite Christmas present growing up in the ‘70s was Barbie’s Townhouse and I’d love to live in it today! The movie just gave us old Barbie fans permission to get out the pink!😂💕💕💕
The original Barbie almost never wore or decorated with pink. She was a very stylish teenager.
Grey looks awesome with powder pink🤩
All of my favorite things at once: Nick, Barbie, the color pink, Kaz Rowe, Trixie Mattel, and maximalism. I’ve been saying that I wanted to live in a Barbie Malibu Dream House for years! I’m so glad that Barbiecore is popular, because it gives someone like me more options to decorate our homes!
I think I'm more an 'Oppenheimer' decor-type, than a 'Barbie'. ;)
Oh man, Barbie pink being a signifier for everything 'girlie' made me LOATHE the colour right from being a kid (DIY tools with pink handles, pink sportswear etc). After years of repulsion I'd just come around to pops of fuchsia as an accent colour and now this happens! The film looks fun but oh man, the pinkness [claws at hair in despair.]
At 69, I'm just now finding some toersnce😅for pink in clothes or interior decor. I think it's because I love cottage roses and their soft, rich pink colors.
OMG same!!! I remember going to toy shops as a little girl and hating how girls only got pink while boys got to have all the other colours. It has given me an irrational hatred of pink - in all its shades, tints and hues - for life. This new Barbiecore thing is giving me hives.
Me too! I hated pink and it took a long time to find there are shades that I enjoy and don't hit you with "girly" over the head.
@@sarah.wassila As a baby boomer , having been drenched in pink - aghhhh ! Agree to the dislike of pink since childhood & as someone else commented , as an adult finally comfortable w/ some shades of pink - I prefer the soft , pale , muted tones but even those in small amounts . 💮
When my toddler daughter (now 28) decided her favorite color was "magenta pink" I had to swallow my dislike for the color and decorate her room in pink. Yccchhhh, I'm one of those Boomer ladies who hates pink.
I was about as tasteful and temporary as possible. That house came with pink and white wide striped shades in the basement, they fit my daughter's windows. I replaced her dresser and nightstand knobs with pink ones. I painted a corkboard frame pink, and bought pink and white striped bedding. She had her pink until her color sense changed, then it was easy to switch everything out.
a few years ago i got myself a pink couch cover and i hated it for a bit but i'm whipping it back out now 💅
Whip it good😅
Just looking at it makes me anxious, I can't even begin to comprehend decorating in this style 😮
Nick reviewing a THEMED decor style? Ahahahaha
I was all set to yike my way through this entire video ,while also wondering if someone had a gun to your head off camera .But I think you actually managed to make a horror show of plastic pink into something liveable for non 16 yr old Instagram addicts ,go you .I also realised I have literally just used a pale beige with a slight pink undertone on my living room walls and have a couple of other touches of desaturated pink ,along with the black ,rich brown and cream that dominates the rest .The room is about as far from Barbie as you can get but you're right ,pink doesn't have to be juvenile or have glitter on it .
Sounds lovely ❤
I’m not a Barbie girl, but those rugs were nice and I also liked the pink, aqua and amethyst modern sofas. I do run to maximalism.
Light cool pastel pink is actually really nice. That shadow, which reminds of gentle roses. Very light lilac is also good for the eyes, it has calming, relaxing effect. Especially, it it's paired with silky and velvety textures.
Benjamin Moore has some beautiful pinks. Lovely, not garish, girlie, not stereotyped. Love them all .
What are your favorites? I want to paint my bedroom ceiling a subtle sophisticated pink. ❤
I used a super ultra pale Valspar called Mosaic Pink. It has a slight coral undertone that comes out when the late afternoon sun hits it but otherwise it’s extremely pale pink. It’s also a very flattering color. It kind of makes me look younger in the mirror in there!
Colorists at BJ stores are most helpful re choosing colors.
I think you're missing the kitsch of it all. People are having fun with magenta pink in many ways and it's a breath of fresh air frankly.
I love how you are actually analyzing this style and taking it seriously! I did have to check that it wasn’t published back in April though 😂.
I’m 38 and my house has so much blushy pink/mauve/rosy tones. So I’m excited there are some pink options out there right now that’s not aimed for a 6 year old.
Contrary to the comment section (that seems to be a barbie hate watch)… I LIVE FOR THE PINK!!!! Even if its just for a second, my “Elle Woodsness” doest feel so out of place… there is nothing wrong with loving campy pink stuff
Not liking something is not hate, you know.
@@silvasilvasilva Feeling the need to put people down for liking something definitely transcends into "hate" in the sense that they're being a hater.
@@TheP1x3l Hate is hate because it's done by haters... ok.
@@silvasilvasilva What? You are getting too lost here, picking at etymology.
@@TheP1x3l I'm repeating the argument back to see if it makes sense. Nope.
Barbiecore the real time/real life demonstration of the power of PR, Advertising, Merchandising, and Paid Tie Ins.
Barbiecore consumerism is banal overcomsumption.
Except this is a trend that has existed way before the movie and for other reasons than you think. The movie just was paying attention to a demand that already existed. And this is about nostalgia and wanting to express shameless femininity.
@@TheP1x3l Except it starts off with little girls destroying their “baby dolls.” No “playing mommy” anymore if you had Barbie. Feminism not feminine.
💗Your pink-ish sweater. A nice nod. I'm with you on the pink-spectrum. Never wore it as a child. Always opted for blue.💙
I really like that Nick clearly has his opinions but also respects the choices of others. Maybe it's the "Canadian Sorry" phenomenon.
So I asked the painter for blush beige and got pink and now I'm trendy, lol
This trend is a difficult one to live with. I just couldn't go there. I think you've said it all, "It will be gone in three weeks."
i just found you recently and honestly i love how you work with things that are not necessarily to your taste and that you advocate for one's own personality over everything else. that is so important, and so overlooked nowadays i feel, with these super fast fashion trends. i find working or advicing on stuff that you don't like is way more challenging and i really like how you broke down this style (that i don't dig either) and offered suggestions for all kinds of tastes, the more over the top and the more subtle. it's really refreshing.
I admire that you were willing to acknowledge this fleeting trend. Its so not your style yet you had a lot of helpful suggestions. Heck, its not my style either but Im sure someone appreciates it.
Oh dear…I’m old enough to remember when Barbie was first introduced. Everything doesn’t HAVE to have a resurgence. 🇺🇸
I remember not too long ago, Barbie was so criticized by feminist for setting an Impossible Image and standard for the average girl to achieve, and the damage to their self images
The Hollywood executives would tend to disagree with you.
@labachaterairlandesa I know they don't and more power too them...I never said they shouldn't make it...I am sure the movie will be a big hit. I just not interested. And I never said Barbie was a bad influence.....I mentioned at one time a bunch of people had that Opinion. People read words and do not take them at face value......they read it, then twist it too fit their emotional reactions
@@terreschill461 I loved my Barbie. But I never judged myself by her standard. THANK GOODNESS
Or maybe accept that this style makes people happy and it's more complicated than simply liking Barbie and the movie. I've been watching this love of feminity and bright color creep up for a decade now in alternative fashion spaces.
Barbiecore; hot pink; a hot topic that you handled very well, Nick; most informative and a vid that should be seen by all those about to plunge headlong into 'Barbiedom'. Tasteful is indeed key.
I love pink and always have, but personally, for home decoration I have incorporated very muted and (at least to me) more subtle shades. I think a bright, saturated Barbie pink can be really fun for a water bottle or a hair band (and I definitely have both) but for home decor... Well, considering most of my house is also scandi inspired, it probably would look a bit put of place. I love seeing pictures of these bright, pink maximalist spaces though, and I loved the video! There are so many styles and ideas that we can appreciate in other peoples' homes/showrooms without necessarily wanting to live with them ourselves. Great video!
I'm not into the whole "Barbiecore" look but I DO like some of the subtle rose shades you introduced with the natural elements. Gorgeous ideas for sustainable decor. I'm not a BLAZING pink lover but you won me over with the old school mauves and dusty rose of the 90s.
Of all the photos of examples, the pink gladiolus was the best. 💗
Now that's a natural material that really does come in that crazy hot pink, and you can enjoy it for a few weeks, which is the shelf life of this trend.
My inner tween wants very much to live in a Barbie house. A REAL Barbie-sized Barbie house. But I confess, it ends there. I’m so limited…
I would have to tone down the pink in the bedroom. Hot pink is not a relaxing colour. Ha ha...
YES, everywhere! As I'm watching your video, out of the corner of my eye, I see HGTV running a show that is using Barbiecore! 😳Three weeks is exactly how long it could last!
There’s also the 101 level of commitment - painted walls in shades of pink. Paint is cheapest, and very easy to change every six months.
I like Nick's 'serious' coverage of the " im a Barbie girl, in my Barbie world' trend for grown ups.😅
I see it as 6-year-old girl bedroom.
Yes, this reminds me of being a little girl and asking my Father to paint my bedroom pink, which he lovingly did. Pink evokes childhood memories.
My tiny apartmet stays the same most of the year; I just rotate pillow covers and tea towels etc but my small bathroom is where I’ve had my “extreme” ideas in form of shower curtain, hand towels and some flee market finds. It’s white with black and chrome accents (I also have black and white rug and towels) and then I add colours with just small hand towel, shower curtain and maybe second hand vase and soap dispenser.
So the basics go with every style and then I can invent new look with some small details.
For example I have 3 shower curtains that have teal on it: teal and green, teal and pink and teal with brown. So the teal rug and hand towels can be used with any of them. Same the black and white towels and rug.
I love to change the bathroom makeovers every 3-4 months, usually with 0$.
We appreciate that you put the pink sweater on for the barbie video Nick.
I absolutely love the Barbiecore - not for me, but I love to at least see it. Pink is my absolute favorite color (any shade) but as an accent color in my spaces, not the main event. I am looking to do pink in my kitchen though (my walls are going to be Cheerful Pink from Sherwin Williams and I found a matching tile for the backsplash). Also how do you feel about incorporating Halloween decor all year instead of just seasonal?
