Excruciating but painless is very accurate. The whole surgery was like 4 minutes for me but it was a long 4 minutes. Uncomfortable as hell but I’m glad after 2 decades of having bad eyes I can wake up in the morning and just see now. Best decision I’ve made

I have a high fear of anything to do with my eyes
I really want the surgery but I’m so afraid those 4 minutes to me would feel like 4 years in hell

How old is your dad? Can one get it at 49 or is too late? Asking for myself.

@@TJK_2024yes. My father had issues with cataracts initially and had lazer surgery done about 50 something.
Unfortunately due to complications of diabetes he had detached retinas later on.
And unfortunately he has passed away now. But when he could see he said it was the best thing ever. That even colors were different and everything was so clear.
@@michelleheadley2911 thank you so much for your response.
So scary that they open your eyes and you have to constantly see what they're doing to your eyes
The only thing I saw were shadows hovering over my eye, I didn’t see or feel anything clearly or in particular.
Once they put the suction on your vision pretty much goes black. Like if you press on your eye from the side with your finger for a few seconds and let it fade you’ll know exactly what I mean!
I didn't see much, they just kept telling me "look straight into the green light". And that's all I see, shadows and a green dot. I could also feel they're doing something over my eyes but literally no pain. I actually felt they're putting water but based on this video, there was no water involved. Lol. And the whole surgery on both eyes took just 10 minutes. Acne surgery is worse. Lol
Yep
I didn’t see anything at all, both times!, they numb your eye and put you to sleep.
Went through all this discomfort and still cannot shoot laser beams from my eyes. I have been bamboozled.

If you really had lasik and don’t mind the intrusive question, how much did you have to dish out?
@@jackie31933 I do not mind the intrusive question at all.
But I didn't actually get lasik. I was just making a joke.
My dad had this done when he was younger, and the numbing medicine wore off before the surgery. So he went through the entire surgery with the pain and uncomfortability of something poking at your eye. It worked out perfectly though!
Odd as they usually do more drops right before (like here’s some more drops and then the part that makes bubbles happens. So even if the drops from ~5 minutes before wore off they have more. Now yes the pressure kinda felt like pain for they put a plastic molded cap on my eye rather than the metal in this video. For me they even said the numbing would last 30-45 minutes post surgery.
@@philiplubduck6107 I'm not exactly sure how it went because it was before I was born, but he said they did it in a large group and put the numbing stuff on everyone at once but didn't do everyone's surgery at once. So by the time it was my dad's turn the medicine had worn off. I'm not sure if that's true it's just what I was told.

@@marywilson6354 that's great! My dad's surgery worked too, it was just a little painful lol. It was also over 20 years ago
Yes! Got LASIK and it was one of the most worthwhile purchases I ever made! It is not painful - just uncomfortable. The MOST uncomfortable part about it is not being able to blink. If you try to hold your eyes open for 5 minutes without blinking, that’s what LASIK feels like. That’s the extent of the discomfort. Afterwards, your eyes just feel kind of gunky for the first 2-3 days similar to the feeling of having pink eye and you can’t rub them for the first week (I believe it was only a week?), but that’s it! My cousin went and had it done after she heard me rave about my results and she loves it as well. We are both quite nerdy girls who love reading but had horrible vision pre-LASIK and got tired of the constant expenses of buying new glasses/contacts/eye exams/etc. A huge money-saver long term and a time saver as well!

It gives me those shivers imagining how it would look like, especially at the end when they put a metal needle or something.
I just did it last week. After the surgery was it excruciating pain for two days, then another two days in dim lights. Then another two days with shades if you’re willing to go out to the daylight. After a week I feel better. And I’m not sure if I will do it again but it relieves me from using glasses for at least the next 10 years.
For those wondering what does this actually do... It's for people with bad eye sight, they just cut the invisible part of the eye and fix the bad parts of the eye with Lazer then put the invisible part back , u just have to take care of your eye for like a month without touching it , most doctors just give the patient an eye patch to help with the process of healing.
Edit: it's not painful at all , it's just weird , but seeing this process happening to someone hurts your eye

@@ratlife6490 nope
@@raven-kn6lv ok ty for telling
PRK is better. It shaves down that layer and the eye rebuilds it. But with Lasik, they cut open a flap and reshape it underneath, and that flap never closes and always has a chance to open back up.
For example, there was one case where someone was struck on the head by an object and their vision got blurry bc it reopened the flap, and this was many years after their surgery.
I think it was the army that would only allow their soldiers to get PRK too for this reason.
Or better yet, if doable, try to exercise your eyes first to improve your vision before considering surgery, which should always be the last option. Just look up "how to cure myopia naturally", or just watch some eye anatomy videos to get an idea of how your eyes work and what could go wrong, this way you will find a logical solution.
I wish! I could never afford this but would I do it in a heart beat. I would love to see without glasses.
I had lasik years ago and it was the best thing I’ve ever done! I was given a pill to relax me. It didn’t hurt at all. Your eye is so numb you can’t move it and you don’t know what they’re doing. I would say it’s a very intense experience but very fast and worth it.

You start by focusing on your nose, each eye can see a side of it, then try to switch and focus on the side, look straight ahead but focus on something way left/right, something the other eye can't see.
I started doing it with one eye as one was lazy, but now I can switch dominant eyes. Very useful.

I had no pain- mild discomfort. Love being able to see without glasses. As I age (70) I do need to add reading glasses. Still I’m so happy and grateful to have had it done 20 years ago now🥳

I had cataract surgery with no sedation. I asked for just numbing drops. The doctor made my eye stay open for obvious reasons. I felt 0 pain. The surgery was over in 5 minutes, I'm not exaggerating. The Eye being made to stay open. Kind of makes people feel a lack of control. Anxiety is not pleasant no matter when you experience it.
I have DED and I'm going blind slowly... No Xiidra, Restasis, or other drops can fix this. I hope one day I can do this because seeing yourself go blind slowly is terrifying the worse it gets. It's going slow but in reality, it's fast as eyes are supposed to last a lifetime.
“Are you sure you’re qualified for this?”
“Yeah I played the eyeball sequence from dead space dozens of times”
I had this surgery 4 months ago.It was really painful,i mean some kind of weird pain. The pain lasted for 1 month. But now I am very happy that I am able to see everything clearly.
Me think eye surgery is nothing: 😀✌️
me after watching this: my reality is crushed I’ll stick to glasses-
It is nothing like what they show. It is way painless you don't even feel anything even after the process and you can see things clearly
Having LASIK was the best money I ever spent on myself. It was completely painless and the surgery itself only takes minutes (the laser part specifically only takes seconds per eye). My eyesight was very bad beforehand and almost 20/20 right afterwards.
There was nothing excruciating about it. I had it done over 15 years ago, so I’m sure it’s only gotten better since.
i’ve done it you should do it
@@fostermomjudy6962 where do you live? How much did it cost you?
I had this done late 2020 best money I ever spent for both eyes it was $4500 it was completely done in like max 10 minutes and they gave me a like a Prozac or something b4 the surgery too. Best money ever spent
My grandpa had that done but it failed and his eyesight was different but it wasn’t fixed. He doesn’t let anything like that affect him and still makes time for my and my brother every day
*Blinks cutely*
Omg Dr. Youn don’t scare the people 😂 They didn’t have me watch what they were doing to my eye, don’t be scared of this you guys!!! Your eye is numb and you don’t actually know what they are doing to your eye, like you can’t even tell if they’ve started doing anything, so it’s easier not to panic! And then it’s over before you know it. I am a very anxious person, I don’t even drive, so when I decided to get lasik I was very scared…but it wasn’t scary at all, the only anxious part for me was a part where I was suppose look straight at a green dot light for like 10 seconds, and I was scared I was going to panic and look away and just ruin everything, but it was easy to get through. There is a smell of like burning hair that I can see being very unnerving for everyone, but for me it took me to the many memories of me burning my hair with hair tools 😂They gave me anti-anxiety meds (probs a sedative too, I took like 3 pills) and once they numbed my eye, it was super smooth from there in my opinion, the whole procedure including both eyes took less than 10 minutes, after I felt that worrying was a waste of time. It changed my quality of life, and I think everyone with vision issues who can should save and invest in correcting their vision for their quality of life.
What about the blinking situation? I know about the numbing, but the moisture in your eye develops, doesn't it bother you...Nothing about the surgery actually scares me other than the fact that I can't blink 😣
@@whatisilyionlyknowipurpleyou hey! So they have something holding your eyelids back, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally blinking, you can blink if you need to but your eyelid just won’t go down. And since your eye is numb you don’t feel eye moisture or lack of moisture. I forgot to mention that there is a burning smell, like burning hair, and that can be unnerving, but as a girl it’s a smell I’m used to lol
@@Naeou Oh I didn't know that? And as for the burning hair, doesn't sound like a problem, I've straighten my hair enough times to get used to it haha. Thanks for the info
@@whatisilyionlyknowipurpleyou for sure! For me the blinking would have been a source of panic and anxiety if I had to consciously be thinking “don’t blink! don’t blink! Don’t blink!”, but no one told me not to blink, no one told me to stop my eyelid from twitching, it wasn’t something I ended up being conscious of so in the end I have no memory of blinking, either me needing to or them needing me not to, ever being a problem :)
@@Naeou nice. I have one more question: I hear after you have lasik, it's best to bring someone with since you won't be able to property see for the rest of the day...Once they removed the flap...or reshape the eyeball, was it just lights out? or blurriness? couldn't see the door in front of you, thing?
"i would never wanna do it again"
what is that mean nate ?
Your right for asking that
Isn’t lasik a one-time?
@@QT_Jeanne well generally you have your vision stay the same for about 10-15 years. After that, there's no guarantee that your vision won't change.
You could get it again to fix the small refractive error afterwards but it's personal choice.
Morris Waxler, PhD, is the former head of the FDA branch responsible for reviewing data on LASIK between 1996 and 2000, and LASIK was approved for use with multiple devices on his watch. Recently, Dr. Waxler told the media that the FDA's approval of the procedure was a mistake.

@@brenitia how long does it take? i’m thinking about getting it done
@@Yaaoon The treatment itself is 8-10 minutes, but your overall time in the office will vary on location/ provider and any additional information the surgeon needs, i.e. additional scans or another refraction.
@@brenitia oh wow, 8-10 minutes with your eyes open? i wouldn’t be able to cope😭
I had a lazy eye growing up, so when I was four or three. I think my parents took me to go get a laser eye surgery, but that did absolutely nothing at all my vision is still crappy. All I did was fix the lazy eye
I has ultra lasek... The cornea was cut with a laser not a steel blade as shown here... Better healing and less of a scar plus it was a bit uncomfortable but definitely not painful.

Even if is uncomfortable, I need this procedure cuz I getting more blind every single year 😢, so hopefully I can get it in a couple years 😅
