Respectfully Paul, you are quite lucky to be standing there taking these questions. If it were not for a combination from Tkachuck, Montour, and Lyon playing out of their minds the last two weeks, your season is over. These three guys carried my beloved Panthers into the playoffs this year, and IN SPITE of your coaching style. That being said, a team playing like this can be dangerous and hard to kill. I hope the boys can keep it up. Go Panthers!!
You know that since January 1st they have played at a 102 point pace. They weren't healthy at the start of the season and were handicapped by the cap issue.
@Justin Miller Yes, sir, I'm very aware that when the calendar turned, they were far better than the previous three months. I was never in that locker room and would not profess to know, but from the outside looking in, it appears they shook off much of Paul's coaching style of board battling. This team is NOT built for that style, and since they've returned to form, their play has been far better. However, they still have a crap ton of work to do on special teams if they want to go deep. I think their PK is the 5th worst or just a tad better. As far as injuries, yes, they had to deal with some of that, but all teams do.
Barkov last 10 games 14 points, last 5 games 9 points. More faceoffs and pk minutes than those three you mentioned. You need always a whole team working together. Is Bruins winning because Pastrnak has 60 goals and 111 points. No.They have four lines, six defensemen and two goalies.
@BigRat Completely agree, BigRat. It is a team effort. I only highlighted the other three, especially Montour and Lyon, since their name recognition is not up there with the likes of Barky and Chucky. Verhaeghe, too, with a 40-goal season. I just hope this trend continues as we have seen other teams ride a hot goalie deep into the playoffs. And just when as little as two weeks ago, I was sure the season was lost.
