  • The Armenian a capella folk Trio Zulal sings Oor Es Mayr Im as part of Perspectives Ensemble's Dark Eyes/New Eyes. Visual art by Kevork Mourad. Singers Yeraz Markarian, Teni Apelian, and Anais Alexandra Tekerian sing this classical Armenian hymn: Where are you sweet mother of mine? I am tormented, seeking your love. My tear-filled eyes turn upward to the heavens. I have no one to wipe my tears. I begged for water but was given vinegar by a wicked hand. Where are you mother of mine? Come quench my thirst with sweet milk.
This concert was made possible through the generous support of the Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation, Jarvis Doctorow, and Robert & Suzanne Larson in celebration of the life of Danièle Doctorow. Perspectives Ensemble is deeply honored to be the recipient of this year's Danièle Doctorow Prize.
Additional support is generously provided by the Hegardt Foundation, and Judson Arts, Michael Conley, Director, as well as the NoMAA General Operating Support Re-Grant Program made possible by JPMorgan Chase Foundation and the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation. Dark Eyes/New Eyes is made possible, in part with public funds from the Fund for Creative Communities, supported by New York State Council on the Arts and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
