The white projector screen came down and then he performed it! I am not sure when Hank Williams Jr released this song but I thought it might have been one of this songs first performance. Whether it was one of the first times he did this song or not, it was the first time I seen it and my wife and I felt very privileged to have been there to see it. This was actually Hank Jr.`s way of accepting his father's music. He was order by his mother, Miss Audry, for the first 15 years of his life to play his "daddy's music", that no one wanted to listen to him, they came to see a reincarnation of Hank Sir. Can you imagine that? Your entire life being told you will never be good enough? And to top it off, by the woman who gave you life? I can't imagine the hell he must have lived through with that woman. So when he was old enough, he broke free and played his own stuff, and found to his disappointment that his mother was right. They boo`ed him off the stage, told him to play his daddy's music. So for years he wouldn't touch his dad's stuff. He wanted his own style, his own identity. So, we get to this song. He finds this recording in an attic and does a "duet" with his dad. He finally embraces his dad's music and by doing so, earns "Song of the Year" with it, at the CMT Awards. Hank Jr. is finally able to let the ghost of his father free, and thus is able to go on with his music, proudly, without the fans of his father's putting him down. He finally has his own fan base. This song was originally demoed by Hank Sr, then given to Bill Lister to record when he needed a beer drinking song. In 1988 Lister gave the demo to Hank Jr and he recorded it "with" his father. I'm not sure what the OP is talking about, but that's how the song got into Hank Jr.'s hand. There is an interview with Lister and Jr confirming this and is still on this site I believe.

Everyone with a dad, even without one, has a king for a dad in some sense. One night at the race track a drunk dude kept calling my dad a legend. He was just driving a car that was similar to some other good driver at that small track. I believe my dad is a legend in his own sense with small dirt tracks here and there, simply for existing and treating everyone with respect. However, Hank Sr was an absolute.. I don't even know.
What? Is it that old. Thought it was newer. Incredible.. Must have been pretty "high tech" for Its time.. Still one of the greatest music videos ever. 🤗🎶
Man I was blown away by this video and got chills when I first saw it. I was a fan of both Hank Sr and Hank Jr and seeing and hearing them singing a duet blew me away! Soon as I saw this video, I ran down to the record store and bought the cassette. Good I still love this song and still have my cassette.❤
My Mom and older brother got me into this many years ago! I bought this cassette when it first came out from Jr. Just saw this video bc the song popped into my head so I looked it up. This is beautiful and brilliant and oh so sweet ❤️
I really appreciate how tastefully done the song was - it would've been so easy to make the song contemporary, but, aside from small modern flourishes, it really sounds like it could've been cut by the Master himself!
I love this video. You can tell he misses his dad. He sings just like him. As soon as he opened the door, you could see the love on his face. It's so sad. Many of the greatest musicians gone way too young... Hank Williams Sr. is a legend. We now have Hank Williams Jr and Hank Williams III to carry on his legacy. Hopefully there will be a 4th. That family has some truly God-given talent.
I seen hank III and he did a spilt set one was of hank Sr. And the other was his music. You could close your eyes and think hank Sr was alive and singing
@@Farrah300, I knew he was 29 when he passed away from a massive heart attack at midnight on New Year's Day 1953. I don't know why, but 2 other people think he was 27 when he died. They also think Hank, Jr. was 39 when he recorded the song and made the video for it. He was 41 when he did both.
It’s sad hank sr died before his son could even acknowledge his father. Hank sr died from a heart attack in the back of a car and jr was only around 4 at the time. He had the heart attack from a mix of multiple things but the main cause was the large amount of alcohol sr consumed over the years.
I just lost my dad and the idea of someone incorporating himself into his dad’s world is what I wish I could have. This video gives me comfort in a time of deep mourning.
I've always seen comments talking about lost loved ones but I've never been the one to comment myself. Today marks the 10 Year anniversary of the passing of my Papa Fisher. That man loved me with all his heart. Him and my Nana basically raised my sister and I when my parents were at work, providing a roof over our heads. He was a country music legend in our area. He toured from bar to bar performing perhaps even this song here. I want to memorialize his life in the comments of this song where like-minded people may think of him. Rest in peace Papa, I love you. -Kyle ❤🌹

This brought tears to me eyes, it's like a dream for Jr to be with his daddy, both lookin at each other, and each so proud of the other. I'm so happy for Jr that he was able to do this amazing video. And i love the song, just wish it was longer!!
My tears fall so much when I view this that I can hardly see it. Being in my ninety-second year of life, these images almost define my life. I feel that I would have not survived my teen years, but for Hank. And now this with his son! Now I can survive this day!
What kind of a person could watch this video and leave a thumbs down? People are certainly entitled to their own opinion, but its confusing to me. What didn't you like? Hank Jr never got record with his daddy so this was the next best thing. I'm genuinely curious about what was bad about this video

This song is one of the good memories with my dad, I listen to them every year before I call him before Father’s Day to remind me no matter what has happened that I will always create about him
It must be tough to grow up without a father majority of your life, but every time I see Hank Jr, I always feel teary because I'm sure he wished his dad could see him performed well and famously. 😢
If you look carefully at Hank Sr. They have someone else’s lips singing. This clip I believe was,”Hey Good Looking.” It was a very clever production and back in the day when MTV and VH1 played videos 24 hours a day, I saw this when it first came out and sat in front of the tv for days until they played this again. This video won awards.
I find this song perfectly bittersweet, for my own reasons. I found it at a time (not too long ago) at which I was genuinely and abjectly lovesick. I may or may not remain in this situation. I was first struck by what’s most remarkable about this song-the heartwarming connection between Jr and Sr. Then, as I kept listening to it, I began feeling the lyrics. And the joy of this song’s story mixed with the actual longing they’re singing about, combined with the fact that it’s just a catchy song, is just enthralling. I’ve worn out the replay button.

I believe my dad is a legend in his own sense with small dirt tracks here and there, simply for existing and treating everyone with respect. However, Hank Sr was an absolute.. I don't even know.
In my opinion, the best music video ever made.
ddrumman2012 thanks
I agree 100%
It was genius!
The hank sr end is him singing hay good looking
ddrumman2012 yes sir
2020 and it still sends cold chills up my spine. Hard to believe this video is 30 years old.
What? Is it that old. Thought it was newer. Incredible.. Must have been pretty "high tech" for Its time.. Still one of the greatest music videos ever. 🤗🎶
@@MrOystein1977 yep was made in 1989
Yeah, we made some pretty awesome shit back in the 80s.
If you weren't there, I'm sorry you missed out on all the fun.
American Music! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I really appreciate how tastefully done the song was - it would've been so easy to make the song contemporary, but, aside from small modern flourishes, it really sounds like it could've been cut by the Master himself!
1:33 I love the smile he gives his dad.
Another example of why he would make his dad proud
Best Country Duet of all time
Yes I agree Hank sr and Hank Jr,my Dad John Parsons liked his music,he passed away 2002,was66
I love this video.
+mshelton26 Hank Williams was only 29 years old when he died. I thought he was a little older than that. Well, it seems like he was anyway.

Wow. Please accept my condolences. Prayers and love for your family.

Great video and Hank Williams Jr a awesome singer and Hank Williams Sr,my dad John Parsons liked he passed away 2002,was66
My dear daughter... I lost you in 2020... I hope one day I'll get passed this song one day.
I miss you
I love you
I've always seen comments talking about lost loved ones but I've never been the one to comment myself. -Kyle ❤🌹
This song has gotten me through certain parts of this year (2024) especially after my great grandfather passed away back in February of 2024...
So sorry about your granddad ,my mom Joyce Parsons passed away,2020,Nov,was82
The best homage/tribute video EVER, I'd like to shake jr's hand, I've seen videos made in homage to other late artists, but this beats them all, hands down, thumbs up
Shaking hands is a nice gesture. Was at someone's house the other day we shook hands and introduced ourselves this September 2021 small towns and Sir and Ma'am really mean alot shop local and support Veteran Owned 👍 have a Nice one y'all🌿🍂🍁🇱🇷🌿🌾🌾🍻
Agreed, though the "Unforgettable" Tribute that Natalie Cole did with her Dad was very moving and very well done, too! I'd say it's a toss-up!
what a tribute,,,,he found a way to sing with his dad...god bless
I love how nobody is talking about how well edited it was when he was able to move behind his dad, despite them having to use a video already made and obviously not the real Hank Williams in person.
This brought tears to me eyes, it's like a dream for Jr to be with his daddy, both lookin at each other, and each so proud of the other. I'm so happy for Jr that he was able to do this amazing video. And i love the song, just wish it was longer!!
Hank Jr. one day you will meet your daddy again. And I’m sure my daddy will be there because he loved your daddy’s music so much. As do I.
I like the old production on Hank Sr’s voice. It’s like the ghost of Jr’s father is blessing his son with his blessing from heaven.
Yeah. Heaven. LOL
My tears fall so much when I view this that I can hardly see it. Being in my ninety-second year of life, these images almost define my life. I feel that I would have not survived my teen years, but for Hank. And now this with his son! Now I can survive this day!
I cry when He first saw his dad's shadow. Couldn't help it. I miss my daddy so much.
The Son of king of country music losts his dad at the age of 3, meets his dad.. I think this is the best video ever made... Love it🤩
True great country song just wonderful and love it
I know it had to be emotional after words but it was great to set this up as a video
I'm so lucky that I get to spend so much time with my dad.
Best Country Music Ever
I like all three of the Hanks. True Country Royalty Southern Gentlemen.
What kind of a person could watch this video and leave a thumbs down? People are certainly entitled to their own opinion, but its confusing to me. What didn't you like? Hank Jr never got record with his daddy so this was the next best thing. I'm genuinely curious about what was bad about this video
Nothing !
Liberals probably..
@@RETROTV1394 Roger that!
Hank 3 would give this thumbs down! That's because Curb records totally screwed him over and stole his music..... FUCK CURB!!
They accidentally pressed dislike, yes there are people that do those things, how? I don't know.
This makes me want to cry. Hank Williams Sr was my grandmother's favorite artist. I miss her and this helps bring her back to me for a short time
As a country boy this is a sweet loving connection between father in son 2:44 🥰 sadly I've never met or knew my father he died when I was a three year old baby....😢😢😢 😔 but you know what he watching over u god bless you Hank william Jr be safe brother keep making those good music👍👍👍

Dad, and Son!
I couldn't agree more.
Imo, the greatest video ever
I'm so happy that junior got to sing with his famous father Hank..those two together would had been magicial, Only IF Hank Williams has done to live the legacy of the Williams family. I tear up everytime I hear this song. It minds me if me and and my father got along all these years that we didn't speak to each other.
This really chokes me, this is symbolic to my father n his father. My father never knew his father, but both were amazin singers and guitar players. I watch with tears in my eyes.
Omg holy cow my favorite hero Hank Williams sr god bless you and hank Williams jr father and son duets my favorite song ❤
One of the most emotional time-warps I've ever seen! Better than whenMarty McFly writing Doc Brown a letter in 1955 to warn him about gettingshot in 1985.
To see him sing with his father, and they both sound alike , just really sends me , father and son doing what they do best !!
One of my dad's favorite singers and you're right my favorite part is when Hank jr. Walks through that door and sees his father again the smiley gets on his face my father passed away in 2008 and that hits my heart every time I seen him Junior walk through that door and see his dad one more time my dad was a country Rebel from Beaumont Texas and Hank senior was one of his favorites
Back with his Daddy & The drifting cowboy's. What could be better? 🤠🏴
This song is one of the good memories with my dad, I listen to them every year before I call him before Father’s Day to remind me no matter what has happened that I will always create about him
Two of great of all time this song brings me tears and one great song of all time
Mr. Hank Jr.,,, Soooo proud of you that you took after your daddy , we love you 💋💋💋🌷

It must be tough to grow up without a father majority of your life, but every time I see Hank Jr, I always feel teary because I'm sure he wished his dad could see him performed well and famously. 😢
I've done it without me birth mother its not to easy
He did he seen him from above Hank is proud of Hank Jr he is crying with tears of joy right now
well to be fair. Jr. was hardly ever there for Hank III
+DutNut Seastar You say that as if we should just accept it as the truth. On what do you base this fact?
Colin 'Jolly Chap' Taylor Hank III mentioned it few times. Even now they don't really talk that much.
Damn my late granny would play this God bless her soul love u granny
One of my favorite songs and favorite music videos Hank And Hank Jr
I find this song perfectly bittersweet, for my own reasons. I found it at a time (not too long ago) at which I was genuinely and abjectly lovesick. I may or may not remain in this situation. I was first struck by what’s most remarkable about this song-the heartwarming connection between Jr and Sr. Then, as I kept listening to it, I began feeling the lyrics. And the joy of this song’s story mixed with the actual longing they’re singing about, combined with the fact that it’s just a catchy song, is just enthralling. I’ve worn out the replay button.
3-3-23 i cry every single time i watch this video of Hank and his son me and mom enjoyed Hank Sr so much and we watched this video many many times together now when i watch this video i watch it alone with tears in my eyes for so many reasons
Grandpa used to sing and play the guitar, back in the day he had a band called skeeder creek something. He would sing this song when we were kids. He's not doing so great right now. This song brings up so many memories.
He passed. Now he's back being able to sing all the songs he loved, with his guitar.
Hank Jr was born May 26, 1949 and his dad passed away on January 1, 1951. Jr was only 1 year 7 months old, meaning he really didn't get to know his dad. It's sad to think about and see him in the video singing with his dad is nice
You got that wrong. Hank Sr. died January 1, 1953. And Hank Jr. was 3.
I bet there are millions of kids who wish they had video (films) of their fathers they never knew or remember. Although Jr. lost his father very young, he's very fortunate to have many photos and these amazing films.
I bet you anything Hank Jrs dream is to perform with his old man
I wish SR had lived long enough. So him and JR could have really sung together. Hank SR was take from us to early.
If only the scene with Sr and Jr was real......
Three generations of Hank Williams singing. Grandpa, son, grandson. Keep it coming.
My grandmother said was my dads favourite song when he was at legion really great memory
Thanks to rebal radio and radio new vegas for my taste in music.
These two if you didn’t know them would seem like the best of friends together.
0:41 makes me tear up, my dad is alive and well, but never too much interest in me. If my dad had gave me half as much love as I see in that picture it would mean do much too me.
