From A true Native who still lives here. The city stinks at random times because of the slimey Cumberland River and pollution by companies. Lots of crime in all sizes and colors. Both male and female youth are slick and criminal-minded. Small streets, not enough parking anywhere, rarely have sidewalks. Watch your back at all times. Lots of great restaurants and dining. Not enough retail clothing stores. Mostly party and breweries. Not good for families. School system is low-performing and inconsistent across neighborhoods. Plenty of great live music from all genres, free and all prices, plenty of great music venues and festivals. That's it in a nutshell.

I'm born and raised from Nashville, this is most definitely no where near the "Real City" hoods lol.. You will have to be from Nashville to understand. Just like "East Nashville" and "Out East" are not the same as well as "South Nashville" and "Out South" and so on.. And it won't be hard to find the real hoods, just go to all the gentrified areas.. they're most likely 5 to 10 mins from downtown each side.

Yes, not Las Vegas though - for a while you heard this : " we want to turn it into the LA of the south". That was the goal and you would hear people at city council meetings argue back "this isn't LA. And we don't want California here." A few gentrified neighborhoods later and overpriced condos built over historical buildings - the trustfund hipsters now have their way . They have nicely paved roads in their neighborhoods- enjoy them. B/c now all the other roads that were once maintained are now filled with pot holes and horrible traffic starting around 630 am . Tax dollars are concentrated on their side of town while they try to push the rest of us out

Great for young people, working and middle class to live there and that was who was moving in there but nope, they had to go and screw that up to

Nashville has changed but is not the "High Crime" City that you paint it out to be. It is not a Vegas. It is safe to walk at night there. Just like any small town, large cities, there are some places that you want to avoid. Us real Nashvillians point and laugh at tourists like you. If you think it is a Big, Bad, "Dangerous" City, then Might I suggest that you vacation elsewhere, Like Chicago or Detroit. Nashville doesn't need your money.

According to Area Vibes the crime rate in Nashville is 123% above the national average and the violent crime rate in Nashville is 198% above the national average. Madison used to be a quiet country suburb like 20 years ago now it's hood by Nashville standards.
Nashville doesn't have real hoods like other Southern cities. Memphis, New Orleans, Birmingham, Jackson, Baton Rouge etc all are different levels.

It's happened to multiple couples as well. Please be careful! The homeless are armed and dangerous, and taking over too. My daughter had a job at Ole Smokey on 6th and Peabody; First she witnessed two customers be slashed by a homeless man while they waited for the bus in front, they were taken away by ambulance. What broke her though, was when a man ran up to her for help as she was walking out with drinks for a table, his throat was slashed and gushing blood and he died right in front of her. A homeless man had done it with a machete. Nashville's getting really bad and we don't even want to be near the city streets anymore, we drive around it.

Born, raised here. Traveled all over the USA with work. EVERY city has its crime. It is a good city if good things happen when you are there. It is a bad city if bad things happen while you are there. You are out hunting for bad. Nashville is not the "crappy city" you call it.

As someone from Cincinnati who relocated to Nashville in 2016 I can honestly say the street life down here is much less stressful, sure every city has its bad spots, but honestly Nashville is overall very safe city. I lived in Antioch for 2 years which everyone told me was the “hood” but really it was just a giant suburb with tons of nice strip malls.

You guys know of a safe spot in or outside of Nashville to sleep in your car?
I'm headed there in a few weeks and im getting nervous about it all.
For 1....the rest areas state that there is only a 2 hour limit and #2 there seems to be a shit load of police all over that area.
    ..including Franklin....Brentwood Nolensville.
I'll have to look up some truck stops or something that an hour away.....to stay out of trouble.
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Inner city too dangerous, suburbs wont let you sleep. Seams like a difficult task. Dont be fooled Nashville can be very dangerous. I would try newer hotel parking lots. Find a corner in the back and most likely they are too lazy to check.

I'm just making it a point that you're driving through "Real Streets" of Nashville is a walk in the park probably compared to where you're from. The only place in Nashville you'll find weirdos are near the Greyhound bus station/the Mission/and Trinity Lane exit. You can't name any other places than that. Everyone else in the country has it way worse, I'm afraid. Nashville is growing, though. I hope we don't turn into a shithole.

You're hearing a lot about crime and traffic from the natives. Certainly, it's a lot more than what they're used to. Remember Nashville is in the middle of nowhere theoretically. Everything around it is definitely country. So you get people driving in there from a couple of counties out, and they're freaking out because it's busier than it was 20 years ago.
Yes it's worse than it used to be, but for the size of town and the growth it's experienced it's nowhere near Atlanta, St Louis, anything like that..
