      Fair point lol that is a great idea for a future video! Luts aren't always a one and done solution so understanding how to shift colors without one is certainly a valuable tool! Great thoughts friend!

    I use a Panasonic Lumix G9 and it has a Cinelike D profile, not as flat as Log, but not as contrasty as Standard or Natural. It's a beautiful image that still gives me some wiggle room in grading.

    Hey Jaired! I love your style of teaching and your films. Im a fulltime weddingfilmmaker and feel confident about my films. However, i still struggle heavily with white balance.
    Maybe you someday will dedicate a whole video to this topic someday.
    All the best wishes and thanks for your work on RUclips! Looking forward to your lut packs as well

      Hey Christoph, thank you so much for your kind words! Seriously means the world! I totally understand struggling with balance within your films and it’s one of those things that just come with time. I can take even my latest films now and tell you what is out of balance from a color, structure, audio perspective but the key is to learn from each film and make each one better than the last!
      My lut pack is officially live!! So stoked for you all to use them in your films :) hope they add so much character and define your style!

    so currently ive been resetting my white balance every time i enter a new environment - are you saying to basically keep the whitebalance the same throughout? (e.g. every time youre outside keep it the same instead of constantly using my app to find out the 'real' white balance and adjusting accordingly every time?)

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  Год назад

      You’ll want to adjust your white balance accordingly. While outside a good start is 5600. For indoors, depending on the available natural light/overhead lighting you’ll want to be anywhere from 3200 to 3800. That’s if there’s a wild orange cast.

    Hi Jaired, I love your movies. Im currently using R6 for wedding videos. I'm shooting in CLog3 (Natural profile is only 8bit). Are you LUTs suitable for CLog3? Thanks

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 года назад +1

      Hey JayJay, thanks so much! The R6 with Clog3 is a beautiful pairing and will work wonderfully with the Unveiled Luts. Since it is a Log profile, you will need to add your contrast and saturation back into your image or use a rec 709 lut first and then apply one of the Unveiled Luts to get the desired look!

    Great video. why do you use standard profile in the canon r6 and not the neutral profile? do you record in clog 3? thank you very much for the help, i will buy your luts

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 года назад +1

      Hey friend! It has been a minute since I used the R6 but I used a customized Standard profile that resembled the neutral profile. I think the Standard had a bit more vibrance to the overall look that I preferred. I had used C-log 3 and it is incredible, I just prefer the Rec 709 profiles for a faster workflow. Thanks so much, hope you love them :)

    What pp do you use for your wedding films? It doesnt look that flat like slog3 or something...

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 года назад +1

      I am always using a neutral picture profile. When I used the R6 I was using a custom standard picture profile that had all of the settings decreased (sharpness, contrast, Saturation)
      On the Sony I am using the latest S-Cinetone picture profile and it’s been amazing to work with so far!

      @@WaywardNorth hey! That’s awesome that you shoot in Neutral. I usually shoot in cine4. And trying to go more neutral to ease my workflow. Is there an iso number that you won’t go above when shooting in s-cine tone so it won’t produce noise? When shooting cine4 I have to go 2000 or 6400. So I was just wondering how it be with S cinetone.

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 года назад

      @@juminy7 yeah mostly just for workflow purposes. If I ever transitioned into corporate work or larger budget films I would consider shooting S-log for sure. For weddings I just prefer a quicker workflow. Maybe for a future wedding I’ll experiment with S-log and compare. I’m sure the extra boost in DR will sway me but I just can’t seem to let go of my current workflow.

    Umm, i would have to disagree, most people have no clue about colours, what they like and what they prefer, unless of course they are a photographer of videographer. They may say they like your colours, but i would say this is customers just being nice. I shoot in log so it is coloured my way.

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  Год назад +1

      I think it all depends on your target market. The films you make will create a feeling that couples can either be attracted to or not. Color has psychological elements on creating mood, tone, feeling, emotion, etc. So most people don't necessarily have to have a creative eye get that sense of attraction. I agree, there are some couples and people out there who don't care and just want someone to capture the day. As long as it doesn't break the bank. But most couples do care about the quality, the colors, the feeling, and personality behind the camera.

    • @northparkfilms3045
      @northparkfilms3045 Год назад

      Not true people who don't pay attention to colors are most likely budget wedding videographers. Taking the time to do your colors will separate your look and vibe from others

    • @waynosfotos
      @waynosfotos Год назад +1

      @@northparkfilms3045 i didn't say you shouldn't pay attention to it, it adds feel to the image and makes it look expensive. What I am saying is, average Joe will in most cases not see it untill you show it next to a video done better. Average Joe doesn't see what a trained eye sees. Quality is subjective to most lay people.

  • @benjamin.kelley

    Oh boy, I've found that the histogram really isn't a good marker for video. The zebras are more helpful, and working in Log, the histogram doesn't mean anything.

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  2 года назад

      Oh interesting! I’ve been using the histograms more recently and enjoy using them a bit more than zebras. I’ve never been a fan of zebras but that definitely makes sense for log recording for sure!

    • @donnik7064
      @donnik7064 2 года назад

      I also agree to this. I have figured out that a little bit over exposing when shooting in vlog turns out to be better.
      The best way I have observed is using waveform Monitor. It tells me exactly where in the picture the exposure is high or low. That's always perfect, especially when it comes to faces. You should always properly expose them. However, I think Panasonic is the only Brand that has it built in or you have an external Monitor.
