Oh...Nice presentation...that totally made me to be very nostalgic.
In the year 1973/74, while coming back home from an upper primary school where I was studying then, I used to listen to all his Bhaktatukaaram songs...one by one...from a loud speaker mounted on the Janardhana Swamy temple of my Village.
VR's rendition, of any song, is wonderful to describe. He was so celebrated for the song 'Naa Jeevana Sandhya Samayamlo' in which we are made to feel in the picturization that the hero Krishnam Raju himself is singing that song such was his voice adaptibiliy then for many heroes.
Mind blowing issue is that he has the credibility of having 95 % super success rate in all songs he sang.
As regards the song 'Naa Jeevana Sandhya Samayamlo', he is said to have challenged 'all' that his rendition of that very song be the super hit of the movie's musical scores. And it was really a super duper hit song of the movie and brought good laurels to all the associated.
Who cares the version that he imitated purposefully the voice of Ghantasaala Sir...for publicity...???
Having very or near similarities with the voice of Ghantasaala is not his fault but blessed one for purposes only.
As someone put it that His imitation of Ghantasaala's voice, ruined his career or suicidal one, is not a matter worth mentioning here or considering at all.
His becoming 'a sidelined identity' in the film industry is due to (open/closed) professional politics (that everyone still knows)...given the circumstances are precisely understood.
His singing style has nothing to do with any other singers and linking so be only an injustice to this legendary Singer.
His tragic demise is unfortunate. And He is still a natural/popular singer. He is always fondly remembered by all...and above all...my favorite Singer.

Imitator of Ghantasala. No wonder he didn't shine while SP Balasubrahmanyam soared with success. Imitation is suicidal
Then how Nagurbabu/Mano succeeded? For that matter, he draws the voice culture from Ghantasala but he has got his own voice.
Not an imitator at all. He had his own style of singing and very nice one..
For successful playback singing, one should vary the voice in such a way that suits the voice of the actor on the screen. Towards this end, Ghantasala maastaru was successful in respect of NTR gaaru and ANR gaaru ( not so for Krishna and Shobhan Babu ). Undoubtedly, Ramakrishna gaaru had a sweet voice but he could not bring variation in his songs to match actors’ voice, which could be verified, if one would listen to his songs with closed eyes. PB Srinivas gaaru too had the same constraint despite having such a melodious voice. Balu gaaru too had similar issue during his initial days ( voice was matching only for Krishna gaaru ). Post death of Ghantasala Gaaru and the entry of Ramakrishna gaaru, Balu sharpened his skills and could adjust his voice as per actors’ voice. Anyway, each singer is unique in his own way. Music is eternal, immortal timeless, ageless, everlasting, perennial... etc.......
