I called Sound Barrier and talked to Bruce in the fall of 1995 after that issue of Guitar Player came out. It was the beginning of my obsession with pedals. I bought an original EHX Poly Flange from Bruce that he shipped to me sight unseen. Still have it to this day.
Being from Canada i had no idea where Chattanooga is and a Google search showed me that it's about 1100 km from JHS Pedals, Kansas City. 1100 KM FOR EMPTY BOXES?! This is not "next level nerdiness", this is way beyond that. Josh and Daniel's nerdiness is at level of nerdiness that i, as a non nerd have to respect. Btw great episode, loved it 😀
So Bruce Wayne was basically JHS before RUclips. Glad to see his collection become apart of yours. Love the history, and I love these types of episodes. I’m a weirdo like you two and love the stories.
this is the best show yet. you've become historians - history is all about the stories. Muriel Rukeyser - 'The universe is made up of stories, not atoms.' I signed up for youtube just to leave this comment.
I saw that you'd posted this video and I saw what it was about, but I decided to go to bed and watch it in the morning. Two and a half hour later and I've gotten out of bed again to watch this damn video because it's so exciting that I can't sleep before I know everything!
I think Mr Barr would be happy you guys got his collection. Also you need to decide what pedals to put on your gravestones, and how to screen print your coffins/urns.
Josh an Daniel look like the C3PO and R2D2 from a pedal galaxy far, far away… Hands down one of the best episodes from the JHS Show in my opinion. Maybe I love pedal history too much. 😅
I really do hope you and Daniel will continue with this series. I adore seeing (and sometimes hearing) all of the crazy rare pedals, accessories, and general ephemera that you guys come across in your travels. It's been quite a ride
Little did I know this morning that I need to watch a program about inboxes ha ha. That was fascinating before. It’s so great that you guys obsess about this so we don’t have to but we get to watch it from time to time. Many thanks
I stayed for the hour and fifteen because even though I don't really get the appeal of boxes for pedals other than some of the very rare and high value out of production stuff (and then it's completion, education and a historical collectable piece) I knew the whole notion of the oddity of a room full of pedal boxes for such deep nerds like Josh and Daniel are, that it would be like kids in a candy store and I'd learn something by hanging around. I wasn't disappointed, and liked the way this stream was paced and presented. As for Daniel's video resolution - it wasn't so bad - it was like Rhett's slide tone, but Josh's was better (insert sick burn stinger here - love you, Rhett!). I hope you do more videos like this.
Saving boxes makes sense to me. Saving a blister pack takes a higher tier of nutty collector. Josh and Daniel must have felt a special kinship with this dead dude.
I missed the live unfortunately, but I’m watching it now. I don’t need to even watch the episode. To tell that it’s good. Daniel is here so that makes it better.
Great stuff, guys!!! Out of all of it I'd like to have the box that goes with my EHX Queen Triggered Wah...(which I bought new in the 70's). I have the shipping box but not the one you got...Daniel!
This is, TOTALLY, the American Pickers - Pedal Effects Nut-Job Edition, episode!!! I am SOOOO in to this!!! I sat here in the first ten minutes trying to think of an equivalency in any collector hobby including guitars, amplifiers, jewelry, classic cars, etcetera, and I cannot come up with anything close to a pedal effect person asking whether the person has the original retail box....PERIOD!!! As a kid, I collected sea shells, rocks, stamps (amateur philately), coins (amateur numismatist), I collected a few old GM cars that I can as a blue-collar work-a-day schmuck... NOTHING is close to the effects-pedal original box and/or ephemera!!! I have hidden on the floor at my workbench at my local TV station, a 70s Gizmotron in the original box that I bought last year and I still shudder a bit at the thought that I ACTUALLY OWN THAT!!! Hehehehehe!!!! If an original Arbiter germanium Fuzz Face is worth 1500-3000, is the box worth 10%? 20%? 40%??? I bought an EHX Muff Fuzz box a few months back in great condition and paid more than I prolly should have, but, my still-needing-repair MF is in an original box now unlike 99% out there :):):) DG, Flint, MI :):):)
I love history and this was a joy to watch. You sort of answered this, but I was really interested to find how you decided to split the treasure. Great show.
I don't know... this is pretty epic and I'm here for it. I will probably never meet you guys but if everyone has a tribe I'd want to be apart of yours. I'm excited to see the next chapter unfold even if that includes more black mold ( 😜 ). Safest travels when you do!!!
The History of #ElectroHarmonix Book sounds like a terrific project. I grew up in NYC and the EH Factory was 10 miles away and I has no idea. I could have drowned in #ElectroHarmonix #DeluxeMemoryMans and #ElectricMistresses.
Just at the point where the Vlog started, I felt like watching a mix of Blair Witch Project and The Last Crusade. So exited. Make such a movie PLEASE. "After HOUSE OF WAX comes the new shoker: HOUSE OF BOXES! Starring Daniel Danger and Josh Scott as themselves. DONT MISS IT or your box will never be checked!" XD
I just emailed JHS wanting a box for my Twin Twelve pedal. I was told you don’t do that and informed I could get a generic box. I look forward to your new jingle “He Has The Generic Box”. #mynextteeshirt
The Dan Armstrong stuff alone, was Cool Cool to me, cuz all I’ve ever seen is a random schematic while learning to build. So yay for that stuff! Was my nerd level reaction for fun, guys. 😂🤣😂✨Aaaaaand… … I Dig all this stuff. You guys went and did Dream stuff I hadn’t even thought of, which is next level! 😳👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Stank Core Power Supply. YES to the MUSEUM Concept!!!!! i live in Vancouver, Canada so that would be one or two hours driving and "one more cup of coffee." (Bobby Dylan reference)
I sold one of the very very few pedals I've ever sold to Bruce, which was one of a few Kay Tremolo pedals that I found in a junk bucket in a music store in Springfield MA in the late 90s that were STILL IN THE BLISTER PACKS! Not even a box! Bruce was a very interesting guy.
You have to realize as soon as you say “this is the weirdest episode” that a challenge has been issued and you’ll absolutely somehow top it at some point 😂
Wholy bat crap Robin, why is everyone so upset that every thing got a little moldy in the batcave!!! Love you all and have a blessed day!!! Happy trails everybody!!!!
The book should definitely have a box, and could also just be ‘Volume 1’. I would buy one of these books every 5 years if that’s the time frame it takes to put together all this work.
JHS needs to open a pedal museum. It would become a tourist attraction
they already are a Museum
They could even make an online one, with descriptions of the history, and what not, and you can click a little button for a sound demo.
@@Alien-Nate you just can't visit
Yes, this!
@@sonor72augmented reality!
I know a guy that could develop that in VR for them too
“We found the box” jingle coming soon
"at least I have the box" is one I need...
It warms my heart that this man kept these boxes and that you found your way to his home. I'm only sorry you didn't get to meet each other in life.
I called Sound Barrier and talked to Bruce in the fall of 1995 after that issue of Guitar Player came out. It was the beginning of my obsession with pedals. I bought an original EHX Poly Flange from Bruce that he shipped to me sight unseen. Still have it to this day.
I wonder if that is my pedal's box sitting in front of Daniel.
Btw great episode, loved it 😀
Your nerd levels are correct.
So Bruce Wayne was basically JHS before RUclips. Glad to see his collection become apart of yours. Love the history, and I love these types of episodes. I’m a weirdo like you two and love the stories.
'Bruce Wayne!!!!' "He has the BATBOX!!"
This is indeed the best TNB so far. It's all about the stories and the histories. Thanks for it
this is the best show yet. you've become historians - history is all about the stories. Muriel Rukeyser - 'The universe is made up of stories, not atoms.' I signed up for youtube just to leave this comment.

I feel better about myself every time you two get together! Love the show!
I think Mr Barr would be happy you guys got his collection. Also you need to decide what pedals to put on your gravestones, and how to screen print your coffins/urns.
Bruce’s gravestone should say “He has the Batbox”
Josh an Daniel look like the C3PO and R2D2 from a pedal galaxy far, far away…
Hands down one of the best episodes from the JHS Show in my opinion. Maybe I love pedal history too much. 😅
Nachos are often correct.
😂 you guys are super geeking out…fun to watch 😵💫😎
I was born December 1958. Bruce was young when he died.
I love this!!!! The history and stories! So epic! Thanks, Josh and Daniel! Two of my favorite people! New jingle for me lol
"I want that box"
I really do hope you and Daniel will continue with this series. I adore seeing (and sometimes hearing) all of the crazy rare pedals, accessories, and general ephemera that you guys come across in your travels. It's been quite a ride
Easily the coolest headstone I’ve ever seen
He would surely love to know that JHS and DD 'engaged' his stone. Legacies are often correct. As you were.
This made a very relaxing Saturday morning. Never would have expected to watch an hour of boxes but I really enjoyed it.
Little did I know this morning that I need to watch a program about inboxes ha ha. That was fascinating before. It’s so great that you guys obsess about this so we don’t have to but we get to watch it from time to time. Many thanks
I LOVE this type of “road trip” content.
And just throwing this out there. I need a Boss TU-3 box.
Lol at Josh going to sleep at 12:30pm. AKA: a little after noon. 😂 clearly he’s tired
Can I just say it made me so happy that you both made ‘boop’ noises turning on the gravestone pedal. We would be good friends.
"Trem face is my second favourite box" 🤣🤣 this is great.
This is my favorite episode ever. JHS meets American Pickers.
Im surprised you didnt grab everything in the house.
Yay 🎉 the 1st episode of “Pedal Pickers” 🤘🏻🦔
As long as it's not on Hoarders ,then I don't have to worry about being on it 😂
Definitely one of my fave episodes so far. Thanks guys.
We’ve missed this soooooo much!
Saving boxes makes sense to me. Saving a blister pack takes a higher tier of nutty collector. Josh and Daniel must have felt a special kinship with this dead dude.
what a collection! the unboxing of boxes is so meta that it's blowing my mind
Love the "boop" sound effect when stepping on Bruce's Fuzz pedal!
I remember being in Chattanooga in 1997, and accidentally discovering the Sound Barrier store...amazing stuff.
As someone who worked as an archivist, this is like a dreamy confluence of my interests.
I missed the live unfortunately, but I’m watching it now. I don’t need to even watch the episode. To tell that it’s good. Daniel is here so that makes it better.
Would be pretty awesome to see you release some of the unreleased pedals you have schematics for now!!
Brilliant idea.
The Ultimate He Has The Box episode ? Going to be hard to top.
Totally compelling. Looking forward to new episodes and absolutely the forthcoming book.
What an amazing trove.
I'm not a great box guy but the paperwork is priceless.
So I’m a synth nerd f ok the uk watching 2 Guitar geeks talk about boxes ! I love this !
Love is often correct.
"Bad Pedals Are History Too" would be a cool episode.
Good call.
Great stuff, guys!!! Out of all of it I'd like to have the box that goes with my EHX Queen Triggered Wah...(which I bought new in the 70's). I have the shipping box but not the one you got...Daniel!
So Awesome 👌 Luv the Book Idea and Documenting all this History for future generations 🎉
I'm looking forward to the book and would love a digital resource of the schematics.
You have been chosen to open The Pedal Museum. Follow your destiny. Why is this the best episode ever?
This is, TOTALLY, the American Pickers - Pedal Effects Nut-Job Edition, episode!!! I am SOOOO in to this!!! Chattanooga box house, new style of architecture
TNB is absolutely the best show ever produced by anyone ever and if you disagree you’re wrong. Thank you
15:24 "This is the weirdest episode of this show you will ever see..."
...not for one moment do I believe that
Preserving history is amazing!
Is that a City of Caterpillar t-Shirt Daniel is wearing? Hell yeah, great band.
Indeed
I have ever felt more like a nerd than when watching this video lol. I really enjoyed this!
I love history and this was a joy to watch. You sort of answered this, but I was really interested to find how you decided to split the treasure. Great show.
That guys gravestone should have “He Has the Box” written on it
He's in a box now. Inception?
This was such a cool video! I can’t wait to see how the book develops. Keep up the hard work!
I don't know... this is pretty epic and I'm here for it. I will probably never meet you guys but if everyone has a tribe I'd want to be apart of yours. I'm excited to see the next chapter unfold even if that includes more black mold ( 😜 ). Safest travels when you do!!!
I'd liked to hear more about the Barr family
Ok. Now I know why I’m watching. Amy family is into history and this history .......I’m hooked
Wow, talk about being on cloud 9! Perma-moist for sure.. A once in a lifetime kind of find! 😎
The History of #ElectroHarmonix Book sounds like a terrific project. I grew up in NYC and the EH Factory was 10 miles away and I has no idea. I could have drowned in #ElectroHarmonix #DeluxeMemoryMans and #ElectricMistresses.
I wish you had saved this episode for boxing day. Collecting and obsessing is great so well done for making it a shared experience.
I love treasure hunting, Great haul guys!
You guys are geeky hilarious! Love it!
Bruce needs a biography. The severely abridged version occurs at 1 hour in. Rest in rock, Bruce 🤘
Yeah this was the greatest box episode in RUclips 😂
This was completely fantastic, thank you guys
I need friends that tell me about stuff like this. I love collecting old music equipment/gear and all the dealer sheets/binders and boxes
Hey guys, I got goosebumps from this find. (My Weird-O-Meter went off the charts) I felt like I was right there with you! (Out of BOX experience?
This is absolutely unreal, Josh it is all for you and Daniel buy it all
I just emailed JHS wanting a box for my Twin Twelve pedal. I was told you don’t do that and informed I could get a generic box.
I look forward to your new jingle “He Has The Generic Box”.
#mynextteeshirt
Loved this one. Very exciting.
The internet has plenty of unboxing videos. History happened here: this is the internet’s first REBoxing video.
Dude y’all keep out nerding yourselves every TNB episode. 😊
HE‘s GOT THE BOX
- the Episode ❤
There's a really good taco place on the street where the vintage effects shop was.
I was watching commando the other night and I think they used a big muff with an antenna on it to blow up a boat.
I love to collect and hoard (shameless plug lol) and love this story about Bruce Wayne Barr- congratulations on becoming the custodians!
Imagine my horror. I live 15 minutes from Chattanooga.
Man just flying out to a different state to buy vintage pedal boxes and hang with friends, you guys are just living the dream
Stank Core Power Supply. YES to the MUSEUM Concept!!!!! i live in Vancouver, Canada so that would be one or two hours driving and "one more cup of coffee." (Bobby Dylan reference)
He Has the Bubble Wrap. Follow up: Death by Black Mold Box - great band name.
Boxes... I'm watching a video about cardboard boxes. And it feels right!
Super cool.
I sold one of the very very few pedals I've ever sold to Bruce, which was one of a few Kay Tremolo pedals that I found in a junk bucket in a music store in Springfield MA in the late 90s that were STILL IN THE BLISTER PACKS! Not even a box! Bruce was a very interesting guy.
...and now I see my Kay Tremolo blister pack on Josh's desk!
You guys are my kinda weird 💙
Completely great video. "Oh, the Humanity!" Thanks for the genuine naked weirdness.
That Fender box looks like something you would find in the Fall Out games.
This was amazing
I so get this. It would have killed me to leave anything behind.
This Bruce guy was Josh's spirit animal.
😍😍😍 so many boxes! Also is that an old silvertone I see over there?
You have to realize as soon as you say “this is the weirdest episode” that a challenge has been issued and you’ll absolutely somehow top it at some point 😂
Interesting to see a Freedom Amp. Years ago I had the “battery powered” guitar model. It took 21 D cells! Crazy. No wall power.
1.21 Gigawatts
He has the bawks! 🐔🐔🐔
Wholy bat crap Robin, why is everyone so upset that every thing got a little moldy in the batcave!!! Love you all and have a blessed day!!! Happy trails everybody!!!!
What a great episode.
Was NOT expecting an episode of ghost hunters! 😂
City of Caterpillar for the win!
The book should definitely have a box, and could also just be ‘Volume 1’. I would buy one of these books every 5 years if that’s the time frame it takes to put together all this work.
Scan it all and make a free online reference library. Please.
