- After a bumper Summer crop, I find myself not doing as well in this Fall season. I've had a late start, poor seedling growth and a critter eating my planted crops.. but we MUST PERSEVERE! So, let's spend the day in the garden and make another attempt at getting a winter harvest!

Oh those little critters that eat everything 🌱🥗🤔
Yes you can ripen butternut in the house but keep out of direct sun 🌞 9:18
great idea with the wood plank to reach the middle of your garden. I don't have any critters eating my crops. Instead I have the neighbours cats that like to use my garden as a toilet :( good luck with your winter crops. I'm in NZ too, my first winter gardening and you've reminded me to grow garlic :)
Oh boy, cats.. can also be a pest. :-/ Always great to hear from a fellow NZer here. Good luck with your winter crops as well, and your garlic!
Your cold and frosts are coming earlier where as our heat and drought is earlier. We have barely had any rain this year so far. My tomatoes are being decimated by snails or slugs 😢😢. My elephant garlic rotted in winter. Hopefully your winter growing goes well, Ali 🌞🌞🇨🇦
Yes, the weather is a bit wacky lately! And I haven't had great success with garlic before, but hopefully with the elephant garlic I will.. although the critter has now tossed the bulbs out of the ground a couple times.. so it may not get a chance to grow or rot in the ground! haha
Good luck with your tomatoes, hopefully the snails go away!
sometimes soaking the peas overnight before planting can help speed germination. Maybe go to the fabric store and get a bolt of tulle to cover your seedlings with.
Thank you for the ideas. I haven't had trouble getting peas to germinate before, but have also heard recently that soaking peas helps. Have you had better success with soaking peas?
@@TheGumbootGarden I had quicker germination yes. I started them in jars, for me starting them as sprouts was much quicker than just planting them.
@@BigggRoss Thanks, I’ll have to try that next time!
