- Dune: Spice Wars has a unique spice tax system (bribes, taxes, etc.) that requires you to pay an ever increasing amount of spice to your overlords or suffer the consequences! As the Smugglers in Dune Spice Wars, and seemingly after missing 3 consecutive spice bribe payments, the 'taxman' will appear (and keep appearing). they're less "local rebels" and more "imperial elite stormtroopers"! It would be nice to see them add some cool dropships to signify them coming from the greater empire to come punish you for failing to pay the taxes.
Aw was kind of hoping the Sardaukar would descend from the skies on like a transport or something (or float down I guess since they can do that in the new movie), instead just appear and be "local" lol

Nah! With these tricks (cease fire, supply sabotage and mopping operation with your Fedaykin heroes) it looks more like: Stand in front of the IRS HQ and flip them off ... until they destroy your tax (bribe) records and leave job hehe
There should be a hidden modifier that gives Fedaykin a bonus to fighting against Sardaukar as a nod to the board game (and the lore.)

why are the sardaukar locals tho? like are they just chilling on the planet waiting for someone to not pay their taxes to atack?

if you can get yourself to do so .. watch the original dune movie, i watched it about 3 decades ago and it hooked me up to the lore. (a bit cringy old [1984] but the story and lore is great)
the first tiology disappointed me .. too slow pace and something felt off from start to end, i THINK there was a 2nd run of that relatively recently, which i didn't watch yet
@@TheyCalledMeT i wouldnt recomend this at all. The 1984 is so bad that as a man that has read the books & loved the new movie, the 1984 one was unbearable. couldnt stand it after 30 minutes. I have older sci-fi fan acquaintances that say that the 1984 movie is what made them not interested in the dune universe. Overall, do NOT start from that movie. Just watch the new one, read the books and play this game.

I think you misunderstand. Not in the lore - but the units in game are classed as “locals” (similarly to sietch units and rebels). You can read it on the tool tip in the video when I zoom in on it.
I was going to comment that, emperor honor guard a local!?!?!? But he has a point, it is classified as locals when you click in the unit.

I had them in a game after missing a third payment in total, never missed taxes back-to-back.

those are not rebels those are Sardukar, the Emperor's forces
Just like in the Books. The Sardaukar are the Wrath of the Emporer, the Special elite Warriors, they're made to crush.
Man the tax scam calls would be super effective in this universe!
What I miss are the units. Vehicles, aircrafts. I saw some design graphics and hoping to get some In the future
1:28 it is -2 influence if you fail to meet the tax one time. You didn't pay the tax five times so -2 is multiplied by 5 which gives us -10
The emperor is pissed.
They are the Emprors troops.
This is much more fun mechanic than the Harkonen and Atreides losing landsraad standing and I still have no idea what the
fremen lose.
Fremen take huge penalties to their authority income, which is absolutely crippling given their whole faction's emphasis on going wide and taking as much territory as possible, as well as their need for authority income to ally with the hidden sieches. (Also, if Landsraad standing goes too low for Hark and Atreides, it spawns Landsraad armies attacking them.)
Sardaukar are not rebals ther the impirial army
not only do the debuffs stack .. the buffs also stack and can be VERY nice. so if possible, pay your taxes! and keep in mind not paying once breaks your streak.
a couple hints which make it a lot more easy:
1) you can EASILY buy spice from other houses
2) ALWAYS store up spice when the price is low, it's just not worth it .. if necessary sell SOME spice to other factions to keep you afloat, once the price is up again, switch to 100% choam if you need the money.
2.1)important hint: get trade contracts active for the phase where you primarily sell to choam .. that can EASILY buff your effective income to more than twice of what it is without.
3) choam price buffs tend to stack better than production buffs. the only buff which is more powerfull is opression from harkonnen which is just insane (+200%)
production buffs tend to be necessary anyways since you need the amount but prices can easily make a difference from barely scraping the barrel to having loads of surplus money
something i'm missing is an active sell function for stored spice to choam .. not only your production. by that you could have a lot more control about when to sell.

Its does makes me wonder does this happened actually happened in the story world where the duke defaults his taxes and the emperor gotten pissed send in his sardaukas, with the remenants of the already beaten harkkonen snaking in while the tax evictors does its job?

Make them miss taxes and then get rekt by the Sadaukar.
If you have x5 of the bribe default debuff, is there a way to get back to a good standing and gets rid of the debuff? I've paid my spice taxes more than 3 times in a row after accumulating the max debuff and nothing seems to take it away.
Do they appear for the other factions as well?
5:00-5:14 wow so kinda like in real life where if you default on a payment the make you pay more and then it snowballs to an uncontrolable level where you cant pay anymore no matter how hard you try
That's why interest is HARAM. It makes the rich richer and the poor poorer
I literally had my taxes owing somewhere in the 3000 spice and snowballing, constantly failing to pay it, my lansraad standing went down to 50 I believe, but I had enough influence to keep winning the elections anyway so I didn't really understand the need for paying taxes.. I was ridiculously in spice debt with choam, but it did not cause any issues for me. I still managed to win by military victory domination after a pretty slow burn. Taxes seem like one of the best avenues to ignore as the consequences are something you can make up for elsewhere, am I wrong?

Does this work against the AI? I have played games where I have tried to focus on crippling the AI's spice production to the point where they haven't been able to pay taxes but there doesn't seem to be any determent to them when they don't pay. I may be wrong but it's currently pretty frustrating to have the AI ignore certain mechanics like spice tax. I like to win through other means besides just brute force.
I'm currently doing the same thing, and I can confirm it does work. I've starved the Smugglers of spice, playing as Fremen, and witnessed the Sardaukar level one of their towns.

I tried to cut off a Harkonnen enemy completely, but they never got this happening. I think the AI kept buying spice from the other AI to pay up.
@@Mernom There's a number of mechanics that seem to break down later into the game, if you disable the hegemony victory and try to deliberately draw things out (because IMO even hard mode is quite easy). At various points, intel and/or influence may stop filling up even though you have a positive rate and should be incrementing, the same with infiltration levels even though you have 3 spies assigned. All of these have bug reports pending as far as I know. Without being able to see what's going on, I have to assume it's bug-related... because I had two factions stripped down to just a few territories each with no spice income, and the third faction made just enough to support themselves... and after a certain point I never saw any Sardaukar. In fact, the other factions stopped having rebellions altogether (except Sietch attacks), despite obvious resource starvation.
The basic mechanics are there, but I imagine the code needs to be cleaned up.
This happened to me last play thro as smugglers I didn't know such a thing could happen but I was lucky they spawned near my capital and a good defended city that has a rocket launcher and I lured them to there death .

I kind of like the Civilization kind of gameplay mixed with RTS battle. But I must admit (although I haven't played this yet) I would like to see the next instalment focus a bit more on base destruction, vehicles and the actual war aspect, like you could have villages able to fight you a little and bombard on the way upto a base, but allow more warfare and base attacks. It still looks good though and I will buy once I get my new desktop.

Is there actually a difference between "tax" (for Atreides and Harkonnen) and "bribes" (for Fremen and Smugglers) or is it just a different word for the same thing?
I wasn't expecting the bribe default to send Sardaukar, since they are the emperor's soldiers, which only makes sense for failing to pay the imperial tax. I assumed there were different penalties for each.
tbh good question and it's a bit disappointing it is the more or less a synonym but the game is already very very complex for what it is (real time strategy)
The cost is similar but you get different buffs for paying your tax/bribe based on your faction ... The fremen for instance when bribing the space guild gain a big boost to authority allowing them to expand to other villages incredibly quickly...
Lore wise, the fremen bribed the space guild with spice to not give away the location of thier seiches/towns to the other factions... Since they could effectively see everything from orbit.
Lore wise you could say that the emperor doesn’t dare send Sardaukar openly against a Landsraad member in fear of the whole Landsraad banding together for a rebellion. Since the smugglers are to their own he can send them with no political repercussions.

That doesn't really explain why he sends them if you don't bribe CHOAM, but doesn't if you do. Only explanation is that CHOAM has so much political power behind the scenes that they force him to back off.
Also I guess in the books, the bribes paid to CHOAM are to stop surveillance. Maybe if you don't pay, then the emperor finds out that you're powerful and turns against you.
@@MattGiuca in the first book the Fremen bribe the spacing guild so no one knows what’s going on on the surface of Arrakis. The smugglers bribe CHOAM to stop surveillance?
And I thought in the game the smugglers bribe the emperor, not CHOAM or am I wrong? And afaik only the smugglers can face Sardaukar.
in the middle of a war i obviously was not paying attention for a while, thinking everything was ok, just as i defeated the atreides ai, i was attacked by 3 of such troops at the same time!! one was white the two other black… i somehow managed to fight them of but i lost it all… all my troops 3 times over, money and also all my landsraad standing! no more politics for me!
and i think it all happened because the f..ing worms ate my harvesters! although on auto-recall!!!!!!! i swear auto-recall is either buggy or 5 our of 10 times uou still get eaten!
pay your texas
