Shout out to her uncle and cousin for loving and accepting her from the start and for pushing the limits to make this all possible. Everyone needs an uncle like you!
I got stuck staying up late hearing this story. I'm so encouraged hearing about Randy's role. What a blessing for Athena to have her in her life. If only we had more women in American society with this level of integrity.
I like what the show host said about the dad, the stepmom, & Athena handling their situation with grace. Kudos to the stepmom who, by her example, set the bar that high. The hostess followed that with words to the effect that acknowledge the individual hurt feelings but also a shared belief that "we can move past them.". I would add to that, "with grace."
DNA Day should be a National holiday! The lives that have been changed, including my own! And Congrats to DNAngels for bringing families like this together!💕
Loved hearing Athena’s story! And love this new series. I will be watching each week. I find this very interesting since I have recently had the honor of helping my brother-in-law try to identify his birth Mom. Our conclusion was confirmed by one of your angels. Unfortunately, she (his Mom) is no longer living, but he does have a half brother who is. This is still very new, so he has not yet had the opportunity to meet any of his extended family. I’m sure that will happen in due time. I can’t wait to hear more of your stories.
I just found this show/channel today and I love it! It's very interesting. I recently did a DNA test and am awaiting the results. I was born and raised in East Texas with my bio mom & dad. But I didn't know much of my dad's family...only his mom, step-dad, half brother, and his aunt. I recently found out that they were originally Appalachian, from Southwest Virginia, and I had no idea! I hope I'm able to find more family members, and that they will be open to getting to know me. If they aren't, it won't break my heart. I'll be fine with it. But it would be really cool to know who they are/who I "come from".
Wow, that wife stuns me. What an incredible woman. As for Uncle: I think it can be very important to have a word for a relationship. There is gotta be at least one culture on this earth that has a Name for that Kind of a Bond with an Uncle. Maybe If she finds the Word used in that culture, they can Express and this Honor their Bond better.
What does Athena's bio mom think about her (Athena) now having a relationship with the bio dad & his family? Also curious why Athena's bio mom did not include the bio dad's name on her list of potential dads? Was that an intentional omission/deception? Or did she honestly not know?
She mentioned that she found her dad via dna but does she have a dna match with her ‘biological mom’? Does the ‘biological’ mom in anyway have a genetic relationship with the stepmother? Because her visual appearance in relationship with the ‘stepmom’ is shockingly similar. Chin/nose/eyes/hair color etc.
@lijohnyoutube101 @35:10 she said, "I've talked a little bit about my mom. It wasn't. . . We don't have a great relationship, uhmm." She then goes on to say, apparently in contrast to the statement about her bio-mom, "My STEP-MOM, she. . . " and goes on to describe the awesome stepmom and telling her dad "You had me with the wrong woman. SHE should have been my mom!" I didn't pay any attention to whether the bio-mom was mentioned in the beginning or not. But I did catch the part mentioned above. She went from the brief mention of her bio-mom relationship, to talking about her step-mom practically in the same breath. It was unclear enough for me to go back 20 or 30 seconds and listen a second time. Hope that's helpful.

Thank you for such a thoughtful reflection!
Wow what a strong woman. I'm so sorry your bio dad wanted no contact. 😢🙏
I was a test subject of the first DNA mapping in 1989.
What an amazing story!!
Sounds like the Uncle was a grea person. He stepped up despite what his brother told him.
Agree!!

Great questions. I get the impression Athena has little to no contact with mom. I believe she didn't know who bio dad was.
can't help feeling that her mom is not a nice person
She does not have the best relationship with her mother, sadly.
Does Athena still have a close relationship with her cousin?
Yes, I do!
