  • In this video we look at the geopackage format in QGIS. It is now the default file type in QGIS 3 and so it makes sense to see what it can do. Thanks to those who voted in the poll and show your support below!

If you are still looking for a way to change the default from a geopackage, here it is! Go to settings, options, processing, general, and then if you double click where it says gpkg for Default output vector layer extension, you can change it to shapefile or anything else!

No problem calvin. Just make sure you load the gpkg layers into the project before saving it 😀

Near at the end of the video, around 13:37, the website you refer indicates that shp files doesn't have CRS definition, isn't it wrong?

Thanks for the comment. From the site, switchfromshapefile.org:
"By default there is no definition of the coordinate reference system used. You can do it using e.g. .prj, but first: this is not standard part of the specification and second, there are still some issues, see projection issues and multifile format more lower."
I thnk most GIS users have received shapefiles without a .prj file at some point :-)

When im trying to export multiple layers to existing gpkg… it prompts to replace or cancel the existing file…..like its explained in here docs.qgis.org/3.10/en/docs/training_manual/vector_analysis/basic_analysis.html

Thanks Mahim. Have you double checked that you are changing the layer name each time?
