This must be one of the most detailed and sophisticated stage productions of the classic Wizard of Oz I've ever seen! Everyone here must've worked really hard. And yeah, this is also has the best Tin Man I've ever seen; he's a great singer and dancer. Makes me wonder how this Scarecrow's sequence went, but I'm especially curious to have seen this production's Cowardly Lion.
This is amazing! I love it and I have watched it so many times. I am the Tin Man in my dancing concert this year so I was just googling the Wizard of Oz and the song If I only had a heart and this is defiantly the best! I have got most of my inspiration from the video cos it is so amazing! Thank you so much!
ahh how refreshing to find a video on here that 's actually good! the acting and singing was so good I could sit back and really enjoy the story! this was absolutely wonderful!
''As for you, my friend, you want a heart. You don't know how lucky you are not to have one. Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.''
Have you noticed something strange? Despite all the videos here on RUclips involving any kind of stage play, including The Wizard of Oz, they're always only small segments usually pertaining to the musical numbers. Noone has ever posted a whole series of videos that all together encompass the entire production.
The sets and costumes were rented from the MSG production and the direction and choreography were recreated by a cast member from the tour, I assume with permission, so I don't think it was illegal.
I really enjoyed this! It's really funny and the Tinman has a lovely voice. I think the diva trees may be a little over the top, but not too bad, it's quite humorous and that's what musical theatre is all about, right?
@sosdead well if you think about it, that's how the scarecrow is in the movie, very excentric and falling all over himself. I think he may be a little bit too much but it's hard on stage to get that lvl just right
Actually, the characterizations are rather good here in spite of a few things that may seem a bit jarring for video. I do feel that Ryan Ruge as the Tin Man is over articulating the song, but is an accomplished dancer, which is obvious. It should be kept in mind that the movie is such an icon that anyone doing these roles has the challenge of creating an original performance. That's the point in doing this. If you want the performance of the movie, you can watch the movie.
Thank you ryguy212. I am in a production of the wizard of oz at the moment and this is the broadway script. The one bffn321 the script that schools use are really crappy and there are like so many different versions. So you wanna go tell L Frank Baum the original writer of THIS script back in 1939 that his script is wrong? hannahdonal09 just shut up these guys are awesome and you'd have to be pretty amazing to beat that. They are not being overdramatic. They're acting you should try it.
I love his voice. For an odd reason I think he sounds like Clay Aken, and I never heard the guy sing before!!! Who is Clay Aken? Either way I LOVE this performince!! Tin dude got moves!!
@MrStevenRichter There are many ways of portraying these characters. The challenge is in making an original performance that does not look to be an imitation or influence of Ray Bolger, whose portrayal is such an icon and a hard act to follow. But for my taste, I'd agree that this portrayal of The Scarcrow is too over-the-top and clownish. While The Scarecrow is litterally a "dummy," he actually is intelligent, which is the irony of his situation.
@angelnprogress The stage version based on the movie script expanded on some parts for more comedy. Seeing this is a theater, it works. The trouble with following such an icon as the classic film is, one needs to find ways of making an original performance. This is not the movie, and doing the movie literally on stage is pointless.
What production is this? I'm certain it has some relation to the 1998 Madison Square Garden production? And the tour that followed? It's not the cast that was originally in it and it's not quite like it which makes me question.
Actually, the characterizations are rather good here in spite of a few things that may seem a bit jarring for video. I do feel that the actor portraying the Tin Man is over articulating the song, however. ... ... A college production?... Of the Wizard of Oz?... I actually have a few thoughts on why colleges can't, or maybe even shoudn't, do Oz, but for one thing, I thought colleges only tend to do longer and more serious works, no longer just children's stories...
why its a man! Quick dorothy wat kind of man is he exactly...Magnesium? Phosphuros? STRONTIUM?!? Oooooh....a tin man, thanks i had no idea after over fifty years of this :S
Wow, awkward blocking... i.e. banging on the chest. as my director always says "Careful, DON'T ACT" and "You looked like you did it because your director told you to and will throw something at you if you do it wrong." Always have a reason and make it look realistic, not a quaint play that grandma will enjoy because you have a part and solely for that reason
@angelnprogress Its not overly dramatic. Its just the way it should be. If it wasn't, it wouldve been like a boring high school production put on by nervous un-talented kids like u. You're always supposed to over dramatize things in Theater.
so what this is the stage version and its unproffesional to do things exactly like the movie. and id rather it be overdramatic than underdramatic, which clearly u guys are okay with bad shows. this was done perfectly.
that scarecrow is annoying... also, it bugs me that the tinman sings too slowly and behind the beat... I dunno. Just an interpretation overall that I don't like. It seems polished, but has little (chuckle) heart.
no!no!no! yes to the acting, which was great but no to the singing for the tinman, cause it just seemed as if he tried to hard and ended up going faky hollywood with no sentimental emotion like the original
this is stupid. they r WAY to dramatic...and its not even the right song!!!!i am in this play for my School.although i am nikko (the cammander of the flying monkies) the kids that play scare crow and dorthy and tin man r better!!!!
RUUGGEEEEEYY you are freaking fantastic...wonderful performance

Gotta hand it to his ability to dance like that in that suit. It's not easy. Trust me, I know.
Wow! Awesome job!
that's a wonderful tin man
I love it when the Tin Man is tap dancing.
"how do you like them apples?"
"we like em very much thanx"
''As for you, my friend, you want a heart. You don't know how lucky you are not to have one. Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.''
These people are really good at acting I’d subscribe to them
That set was from the Madison Square Garden Production back in 1998!!
veryyyyy gooooddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!
i loooooveeee ittttttt!!!!!
this is really good :) i hope our production of this can live up to this one :) i get to be a sassy tree i think it'll be fun :D
I think I'm in love with the Tin Man.

The trees are funny!
This is OZ-SOME on 32 different types of levels!!!!!
The sets and costumes were rented from the MSG production and the direction and choreography were recreated by a cast member from the tour, I assume with permission, so I don't think it was illegal.
I really enjoyed this! It's really funny and the Tinman has a lovely voice.

could u please post more from this show, its so good. possibly if i only had a brain?
I think this would of been a good play to go to...well done!
@sosdead well if you think about it, that's how the scarecrow is in the movie, very excentric and falling all over himself. I think he may be a little bit too much but it's hard on stage to get that lvl just right
this is really good... do u have the jitterbug from this production? i would LOVE to see that!!!!
I think this is a great production! Is there any chance you could post more?
awesome, i'm playing te scarecrow, that guy did a good job!
This really helps me, im playing Tin Man (or tin person cause im a girl) in my school play next month :)
I'm trying out for the musical at the school...this is very helpful...but I hope I don't have to dance with this.
wheres the rest of the show?? Would be great to see more clips

2:50 That's what she said!
it's not new it's been part of the original RSC production since they first did it on stage in 89...
@angelnprogress And by the way, they didn't change things either. This is the original Broadway script, if u even know what that means
@angelnprogress The stage version based on the movie script expanded on some parts for more comedy. Seeing this is a theater, it works. @pokeshipper19 Thanks! And you too ! :)
why is there an extension on this song ?
did the plays for schools or broadway just
add that beginning of the trees to the original ?
wasn't crazy about the scarecrow but everything else was cool
What production is this? I'm certain it has some relation to the 1998 Madison Square Garden production? And the tour that followed? It's not the cast that was originally in it and it's not quite like it which makes me question.
@MireyaWendy i know same here....but they are pro

Can you upload the full show?
yeah i agree with you, it's just not the way i would have this be performed.
William Shatner must have directed this...
... ... A college production?... Of the Wizard of Oz?... I actually have a few thoughts on why colleges can't, or maybe even shoudn't, do Oz, but for one thing, I thought colleges only tend to do longer and more serious works, no longer just children's stories...
Is this The Wizard of Oz College Version or the Broadway Version?
7 people don have a heart.
Does anyone have a cast list?
we are doing the wizard of oz in our play and ours is sooo bad compared to this. i am the tin man! anyone got advic??
why its a man!
Quick dorothy wat kind of man is he exactly...Magnesium? Phosphuros? STRONTIUM?!?
Oooooh....a tin man, thanks i had no idea after over fifty years of this :S
@BlueStarberryAKTF LOL
Where did Toto go?
@lwclark96 The same script can be acted out in different ways. Smh.
How did the smoke come from her broomstick?
aught to be??
the tin mans good. scarecrows too goofy over the top. skilled, but over the top.
No offense to whom it may concern, but the tree's voice in the beginning makes me want to slice my ears off with a rusty blade.

not very good
Worst acting I ever seen!
