- For better or worse, I got the urge to play Borderlands three. There are almost certainly a good number of ways that could have been less painful or more fun, but here we are. Overall, I am impressed by how good shields are, but that's not saying a lot.
As for other games in the franchise? Maybe at a later date. Far too much of my time has gone to Borderlands three recently. Vendor farming is a really dry experience, and triple rolled shields feel like a myth.
Rules!
1. No unique gear where possible.
2. No Guardian Rank Bonuses.
3. No damage through non shields unless necessary.
4. No anointed gear.
5. Rule break = map reload + shame.

Edit: I never really invested time to look at different shield types, I've always been a "big number go brrrrrrr" kind of guy. So, this video was honestly really surprising. Good job Spuddy :)
I can't really say why, but I pretty much always aim for a recharge delay of three and a half or less in the second game. For the longest time, I would swear that they're all a lot longer in the third game, but there are legitimately some really fast shields. I've kept a lot of really bad ones for a really long time to avoid interacting with the system, and it turns out that it's not even all that complex.
I wonder if there's a challenge run that hasn't yet been done in bl3,at least the community shows this game more love than gearbox

Hello, I've only recently discovered your channel and I'm amazed! I just re-installed BL2 and TPS (the latter of which I have never gotten around to playing - which is shameful for a fan of the BL franchise who played the hell out of BL 1, 2 and 3 when they came out... but good because I have something new to discover)

I would definitely be interested in a legendary shield-only run! Would be cool to see a mixture of the crazy shields to make it through

Run idea: Can you beat B3 with the Highest Item Score? since item score usually means fuckall, and weapons a 100 points lower than another one could be miles better.
Probably better as a TVHM playthrough.
That does sound like an interesting take on a scavenger run. I am curious how well it could handle something like Mayhem eleven with how aggressively it's scaled.

Lootsplosion modifier would be a must. Bigger chance of finding something high item score gaaarbage.

Always love your videos, even though I've still not beaten BL3 lol do you think you could beat a run where you only use guns that explode on reloading? like you can only deal damage to enemies by throwing guns
Thank you, I'm glad to hear it! As a general rule though, I do try to avoid doing runs that have already been done, and I'm fairly sure Tediore reload runs have been done through at least most of the series. It is a really fun playstyle though.
Only thing I wanna point out about reflect shields being bad is..... Beskar + Reflect Shield. You go down once, and even *in* Fight for Life state, the 30 or whatever % to reflect magically becomes 100% and will *only* reflect. (and iirc if you kill something with the reflected bullets it does count as killing for FFYL) I had a super broken one on my moze that for some reason didnt even require me to get downed to permanently 100% reflect at all times - even after reloading, un- and requipping the shield, closing and restarting the game.... So yeah.... Idk how or why it broke the way it did but it did.
great fun game I agree. Was my entry into the BL franchise. Glad to over time trickle the knowledge via videos that not all of the games are like this one..... where every lootable object has to be a shit stuffed toilet that farts and vomits excrement your way BECAUSE ITS FUNNY AND YOU SHOULD LAUGH ....
Only ever one joke landed for me. And iirc it was in a DLC. And I merely scoffed. It's fun. If you turn down the Voice volume all the way and play the game to play it and not to experience it.

Seeing the thumbnail very wrong makes me want a Pre-Sequel “Shields Only” run
There is a large part of me that wants to take on the full series via shields. The biggest hurdle for the remaining games is just how to go about getting the first nova shield in each.
Shield only Athena in tps? Action skill OR normal shield is the better question because both are annoying to do.
@@zaclittlejohn2701the action skill shield at least has an entire tree focused on using it to do damage so itd probably be "too easy"

Why did I expect this to be Presequel with Athena shield only? It is clearly Amara on the thumbnail...
I can't say for sure, but that is on my list to try some day. Right along with the gear based shield rather than Athena's, though I'm not quite sure how to start such a run yet.
The only other vault hunter i would think is a good choice for this run would be Fl4k for giving their pet a copy of their shield but the only downside is you cant control the pet for damage

"easy as pie" comes from how easy it is to eat a slice of pie, as you can very easily eat an entire slice (or just an entire pie if you're hungry enough) very quickly even without utensils.
It does become a lot harder without the prerequisite pie. That does make a lot more sense though. Pumpkin pie can't survive me for long.

I cant remember if generic Hyperion guns could spawn with the reflect part, but you shouldve allowed yourself to use the Hyperion barriers defensively even if not offensively
speaking of BL3 Hyperion, why, why isnt it just Pangolin, it wouldve made so much more sense especially since BL3 didnt even explain that Athena is the new Hyperion leader

At some point, I still think I'd like to figure out a good way to take a crack at it. It raises the question though surrounding the end game of three. In theory, I'd want to try it at Mayhem eleven rather than starting a normal mode run, but my personal experience with the Mayhem levels has been... ineffectual. I'm not yet sure if it's my build philosophy or something else, but it's something I'll need to figure out before trying to get too deep into any unique item based runs for the third game.
Easily just use fl4k with the missile bot either faulty star or messy breakup will work nice your character doesn't need to even shoot

I always have very mixed feelings going into Eden-6. I stand by my assertion that the story is at it's best at Eden-6, mostly because we're actually dealing with likable characters that aren't being thrown into the blender of incompetent plot escalation that everyone else is experiencing, but the setting and pacing are just such a slog. Bluntly... it's too long. As complete thematic nonsense as the visit to Athenas was in the previous section, it was a really good choice from a gameplay perspective because it actually gives the game the feeling of that 'thousands of worlds!' they boasted about so much. You're actually changing scenery meaningfully, even the way you move through the level feels slightly different. Eden-6 desperately needed one or two interludes like that, instead of just same egg, profile view. It's not a very interesting setting, either. I'll be honest, I've almost never seen a game that did a swamp section in an interesting, engaging way. It's just not a likeable sort of setting.
I am glad that this game has a lot going for it other than the story; I still occasionally pick it up and replay it with a friend, and I'm always finding some new interesting niche item to play around with, or some minor build detail that I hadn't noticed before. They got the gameplay and gunplay so much better than previous installments that even despite how terrible the writing was I would still consider BL3 a fun game.
SOOOO true the devs failed us making borderlands 3 & honestly the pre sequel 😭😭😭 1 is S tier for its time. Borderlands 2 is the peoples favorite. Pre sequel was exciting for the change but died hard & quick. Borderlands 3 felt like a joke.
Dont even ask about the walking dead version of the game 😅😅😅

I'm not really sure how it would handle Archimedes. There is also the issue of good/consistent ammo regen being relatively late game for Moze... Otherwise?.. Quite possibly something for a later date.
Game went from crashing sometimes to crashing all the time? Sorry, I'm to blame, me and my sis started playing this game on Co-op PS4 a month or two back, which meant something had to go wrong, so the game crashes quite often, along with low framerates. Dunno how me playing it on PS4 translates to the PC version also crashing but it does.

13:05 "Because this game likes to just not let me move sometimes". Yeah that's because the game expects you to shoot the enemies. Of all the things you can criticize this game for, don't blame it for problems your dumbass challenge creates.
So just to clarify, you're saying that being actively glitched into architecture is an intentional choice because the game features guns? Because it also features melee builds, which are disproportionately affected by things like invisible/misaligned objects within the environment. And regardless, things like directional inputs not working is still a pretty fundamental problem that exists agnostic of how I choose to play.
As an aside, are you feeling alright? Because that's a really strange hill to choose to be so aggressive toward a stranger on.
why do you make bl3 challenges? based on your commentary you seem to not really like the game
