The “Dark Ages” were actually relatively good for people living basically anywhere else, while the period of the Enlightenment and the Scientific Revolution was also the period of colonialism, which was actually kinda worse than all of those other bad things he mentioned, not even taking into account how many of the world’s current problems it caused.

During the so called "Dark Ages" Europe wasn't great but the Muslim world lived its golden age. Gunpowder and firearms, arguably just as significant an innovation as industrialization, came through the Middle East from China.
