I found a very unexpected ore pocket in the gold mine!

  • Checking on a spot in the Blue Chip Gold mine that showed some promise in previous sampling, I exposed a ore pocket that blew my mind! Not for the gold, but for the beautiful, fully formed, clear quartz crystals. And yes it had gold too. I ended up recovering great big crystalline gold and a few hundred quartz points s well as clusters.

The “interior” parts of that crystal as you said was actually Mica crystals growing inside the crystal. And some of them had phantoms( basically is a refraction of the crystal that might grow inside and in place of another or grown over a smaller crystal to make a shadow of the small crystal.

One of the odd realities of mines, tunnels, caves, and similar hollows is that over time, the holes "float" upward toward the surface. The movement is affected by the solidity, structure, and cementation of the body the hollow is in. The basic force is gravity which pulls mass downward. Weathering in the material above the open space loosens material that then over time falls downward. Effectively the space propagates upward like a very slow bubble.

This is a great video and reminds me that I have a few of these fully-formed quartz crystals myself. Back around 1990 I was living up in California's mother lode gold country in the foothills running along hwy 49. There is a little town there called Coulterville which is a stop on the way up to Yosemite at the junction of hwy 49 and hwy 132. If you turn west onto hwy 132 out of that town there is an old mine entrance sitting just off the left shoulder. There was a spot right there which dropped down into what was almost a small cave. We used a rope to climb down and check it out. That's where I saw some of those fully formed quartz crystals and collected a few of them. Pretty sure I still have them packed away somewhere.

As much as I love Dan's videos YOU are the one helping yourself with depression. Don't short change yourself, a lot of people can't pull themselves out of it. There is nothing anyone can do to pull you out of depression. You have to do that yourself...and by the sounds of it, you are doing a good job!

Thanks Dan I enjoyed your video especially of the rubies when you were with your family that was awesome and this right here just capped off another awesome video of yours. I haven't commented previously simply because I wish to view more of your videos and now that I have I'm highly impressed and just wish I could go out and do what you do. It's very exciting and self-rewarding as well as self-satisfying. And it looks like a lot of fun to boot. Of course I also know that their work involved yet anything worth doing takes a little work and is always worth it in my mind. God bless you sir and have a great day I look forward to your next video. And if you ever decide to take any patrons Along on your Journeys I think that would be a cool thing to do. I enjoy doing things firsthand. Always have. No better way to enjoy life

Hello Dan. i was wondering if you could explain a little bit more of the geology in the hard rock your working? i really have enjoyed watching all your videos. I've learned so much from you about panning and what to look for on rivers and streams. i really look forward to your video's. I recently tried panning for the first time with a borrowed pan. I haven't found anything I've only been once.

Hi Dan love the videos. I go digging every chance I get. Just a couple ideas might be worth leaving hard hats at the mine and if you clean the floor of the mine all the rocks out then you'll know if the thing has moved because they'll be new rocks on the floor. Stay safe in your mine and keep on digging.

Even with the time lapse it was good. I made my own 1/4 and 1/2 inch classifier with the same idea and love them. I should say I basically copied his idea with buckets. A buddy saw mine and made his own too. Thanks to whoever came up with the idea. Love the videos Dan, keep it!

By your use of the term 'acid', presume you mean oxalic acid to get rid of excess matrix from quartz and make it easier to see any gold attached. Oxalic acid is a mild acid but very helpful when prospecting. Cheers from Australia.

If any leftover gold is there it's not much cuz it'd be all mined out for sure. Every riverbed has gold in it that washes through from farther away! I'm gonna start metal detecting in those places myself to hit it big!
