Which is why we have democratically elected governments in the civilised world. The people living on the Falklands have a right to choose and they have always made the same choice. How this outcrop of islands became British is actually not relevant anymore. In a civilised world the wishes of the population needs to take precedence. The people choose to be British and not Argentinian. End of discussion. But to try to use Vernet as the base for any claim is derisive. Vernet sounded an “interesting” character to say the least…very probably just a con man, happy to lie about his nationality in order to profit for himself. His tenure as governor had nothing to do with any territorial claim by the then government, but was purely motivated by personal greed. You're entitled to your opinion but the Sea Harrier was designed, manufactured and used as a fleat defense aircraft. The Harrier pilots trained and exercised against F 14s, F 15s etc. They had a 3 to 1 kill ratio against the F 15 and this was done on the calibrated airspace in Nevada.

I know this sounds horrible, but as a 12 year old kid in love with jet fighters, this was a great little war. An actual air war during my lifetime, that I could read about and watch, was so cool. They never claim sinking a carrier. Check your facts. They stated that HITTING one carrier with last Exocet, and bombs of two Skyhawks, and other two Skyhawks were lost in the attack. And the claim is against the Invincible, not the Hermes.

Brits were just not prepared because of budget reductions or willingness to spend on maintaining their people in arms. My opinion from what I’ve read. Fortunately most fighter combat is fought at low speeds and Argentina sent their planes straight at ships in directs flights without thinking of having even a couole fighter jets trailing the attacks to protect the bomb runs this could have gotten very bad . Takes money to defend in this dangerous world and the Brit’s usually do their share for the military . Many countries today put their safety on other countries military to protect them so they can spend on their benefits leaving other countries to carry their burden if they need protection. I have no problem if other nations say sorry can’t help when bad things happen !

Spectacularly inaccurate program which causes me to question others in the series. The ground war is trivialized, making it sound like the British walked over a bunch of Argentinian conscripts. While there were such troops present, and also troops unprepared for the harsh weather, the Argentinian's tactics and preparation were appropriate. The fighting was extremely hard and courageous on both sides. Given the British had lost most of their heavy-lift chinook helicopters, the mobility of their troops was seriously hampered. Pilots are a different class than grunts. Officers, especially in “non-western” forces are head and shoulders more educated than Enlisted personnel.
