Dickie (Christian Bale) and Charlene (Amy Adams) try to reconcile for Micky's sake.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Mark Wahlberg stars in Paramount Pictures' inspirational docudrama exploring the remarkable rise of Massachusetts-born, junior welterweight title winner "Irish" Micky Ward. A determined pugilist whose career in the ring was shepherded by his loyal half-brother, Dicky (Christian Bale) -- a hard-living boxer-turned-trainer whose own career in the ring was nearly sent down for the count due to drugs and crime -- perennial underdog Irish Micky rebounded from a disheartening series of defeats to win both the WBU Intercontinental Lightweight title and the WBU Light Welterweight title thanks to a fierce combination of determination and hard work. David O. Russell directs from a script by 8 Mile's Scott Silver and Paul Attanasio (The Bourne Ultimatum).

Amy Adams's eyes...so much emotions in them.
I was thinking the same thing about Bale. It’s so true about her too! I love that about them. The close ups they can both do with several emotions crossing their eyes at once. I wonder if they would do another movie together again
@@KitKat_293 I swear they are the most underrated screen partners. This, American Hustle and Vice. They complement each other on screen so well.
@@anirudharun6546 geezus, why did I never realize they were both in the same movie and have the best chemistry? Maybe it was because Bale looks like two completely different people 😂
She’s overrated
Big eyes
0:18
When he kind of lower his voice and just want her to listen to him is soooooo much real.
This man is a gem for the acting world itself.
"Ooh I'm so great I'm the pride of fuckin Gotham. Ooh yeah I fought Bane."
"He needs me" with Bale waving his arm, like a boxing move almost. I love that detail. How he makes a point as if throwing a punch or a block. What a scene.
Next to Daniel Day Lewis, Christian Bale is my second favorite actor. Hands down.
do you like huey lewis and the news
for me they are: 1.- Daniel Day-Lewis, 2.- Joaquin Phoenix and 3.- Christian Bale
Agree Daniel Day Lewis is incredible
Gary Oldman is the best.
@@Jared_Wignall i agree true love he played a white guy that talks like a black guy. That man is amazing
“Is that a Cocker Spaniel?” 😂😂
Oh Christian Bale is an absolute gem!
you know what, in real life Charlene really did graduated from college and got a degree. but then she ended up working in a lot of bars to help her father pay the bills.
yeah that's what i heard.
i also heard she work in a lot of Restaurants as a waitress and a hooters girl. i also heard she wanted to do teacher certification.
Ryan Wilson i also heard that before all this she went by the name of Lois lane and was with a guy named Clark Kent
Two of the greatest actors
Amy Adams should have won the Oscar for this film instead of Melissa Leo. Her performance has incredible detail. Great clip!
I agree completely. But at the same time I have no problems with Melissa Leo winning because she was excellent as well.
kellenabner no think it should have been a tie between Amy Adam and Melissa Leo because they both did good in this movie.
Amy Adams is either the first or the second top actressesI that we have. people don’t realize the incredible talent that she is That comes once in a generation
Melissa Leo was AMAZING. You legitimately were enraged at her being such a manipulative, passive-aggressive wretch of a mother. As good as Amy was in this, Melissa was the right choice. She made that mother...you felt a lot of things and it was EASY to root for Mickey Ward seeing him try to get away from that dysfunction and chaos.
I think Amy should have won for Doubt instead of Penelope Cruz and then Penelope should have won lead actress for Parallel Mothers over Jessica Chastain's over the top performance in Tammy Faye
I’m on the verge of tears within two minutes. What actors. What a flick.
How is everyone commenting about Christian's acting and completely ignore Amy's... Both deserve more credits and AWARDS
Yeah... That's right... Agreed..... Well said....
How so many kids are unable to understand that questions ends with a question mark, is my question.
Sounds like you wanna undercut bale and prop her up?
What kinda dog is that, is that a cocka spaniel?
Lmao so funny
***** why is it random?
+musicaltheatergeek79 seemed genuine to me, like something that a crackhead would say their mind/thoughts are always racing causing them to blurt out stuff to strangers that may seem a tad inappropriate.
@Sudden Arrival Thats how I took his question, like "its all good here, keep walking"
I loved that so much. So real when someone is making a scene in public and gets embarrassed and tries to smooth it over lmfao. Kind of endearing because he didn’t really say it in a rude way just trying to sound friendly
Bale is king and Amy's performance is nothing short either... and she's so beautiful.
Best scene of the whole movie. Like wow. I was surprised enough to see two characters who really had zero rapport meeting each other but this dialogue made the film, especially when Dicky grills Charlene.
Charlene finds Dickie's weakness in this scene - the bout with Sugar Ray Leonard. That was the one thing he had left to hold on to, the idea that he was able to knock Sugar Ray down (and he didn't even win the fight). But if it's true that Sugar Ray tripped, then his label - "The Pride of Lowell" - is not only gone, but never truly existed in the first place.
She does it to hurt him, but he immediately flips it. “I was in the ring” , he knows well that it’s a sham and all but in the bum town he’s in with yes man he’s holding onto his local celebrity and that’s it. He’s known for a long time and he’s thought about it, he may not have truly knocked him down . But he still managed to go toe to toe with one of the greatest boxers of all time. “What have you ever done in your life “ Then Charlene shrinks...
@@seanhayes4932 Dicky did a good job flipping it on Charlene.
@@RenaldyCalixte You’re College drop out Charlene.
You’re just a little Bar Girl.
Your life Sucks.
God I love that quote!
Good job Dicky!
I don't know why all your heads are so far up Dicky's whole.
The most accurate realistic argument between a young girl and a man !
Thanks
Actually she is a grown woman.
@@RyanWilson-ti2eh In the eyes of these people, a woman never grows old. They are always girls lol
Batman and Lois Lane arguing.....Awesome.
Echoboomer1987 very true 😂
youtube needs a filter for these comments
@@danielharrison3250 Tiresome.
What's funny is she helped Christian Bale and Cillian Murphy test for Batman and read the Rachel Dawes dialogue in the audition. And just from the screen test you can see how good her voice sounds as Rachel. I still can't believe Nolan didn't cast Amy instead of Holmes or Gyllenhaal as Rachel. Would have probably been an even better role than Lois for Amy because she has way more chemistry with Bale than Cavill and could have really elevated TDK because I always thought Gyllenhaal was a really low point in that film.
I 110% believed that Christian Bale was a Boston-area crackhead. Straight outta Father Bill's.
“Clark has a chance to do something that I never did, and in my time I never had.” -Bruce Wayne
😂😂😂
This always felt like an actual interaction to me. Especially with the physical mannerisms being pervade throughout their conversation, specifically with Dickie pleading with Charlene to just come down and talk to him. Not to argue, just to talk. It really felt like a legitimate conversation between a man and a woman lol.
Bruce Wayne and Lois Lane
Also, the Cheneys.
I love this scene because it’s 2 people who can’t stand each other, however they’re both similar in more ways than words can describe. They admit that they don’t like one another, & give each other “hard truths”, & in the end for the love of someone they both care for, they set aside their differences in order to ensure that Mickey has success. Respect ✊🏿. Take notes 📝 people. It’s a real life lesson!!!!
It was great that Charlene put Dicky in his place here by making him come to terms with the fact that he never actually knocked down Sugar Ray.
At the same time, it was great that Dicky put Charlene in her place. She had a pretty swollen self-righteous head at that point, and it was time Dicky put her life in perspective
Bale nailed the Boston accent
Amy Adams is the female DiCaprio - great in every movie but simply can´t get that fucking award....
Real actors don't care about awards. Only way you get them is to schmooze a load of execs. If i got an Oscar I would **** on it
“What kind of dog is that? Is that a Cocker Spaniel?”
So out of the blue and perfect. Bale probably improved it. Master
What kind of dog is that, is that a Cocker Spaniel?*
It's just one question.
Amy Adams accent in this movie is scary good for someone who isn't from Boston/New England.
the most iconic duo
When you realize the same duo who play Batman and Lois Lane also play the Cheneys.
Also play con artists in American Hustles
tell me she doesnt look beautiful when she firsts walks out the door
she literally always looks beautiful, it's amy adams
One of my fav scenes ever. I bet they use this scene in acting schools everywhere. ;)
one of my fav scene of these two and in the whole cinematography
f*cking great acting!
First time I've heard Amy drop the F bomb, I mean I only saw her in Night at the Museum 2, The Muppets, and Enchanted and she never did that
lol
Watch the Master
@@desertvalleyfilms9136 It's one of my favorites.
OMFG it's... BATMAN & LOIS LANE !
1:21 I originally thought that he still thinks he knocked down Leonard, or is he implying that he knew all along that he tripped.
He knows leonard tripped by saying "i was in the ring i know what happened" after she tells him to admit that leonard tripped. It's the community that hyped him up as a local hero and he just ran with it. To dickies credit Leonard did say dickie was the trickiest fighter that he fought and he held his own with Leonard.
She should have played Tonya Harding in I, Tonya
Charlene was just pissed off at herself and she just took all of her frustrations out on Dicky.
Oh please
What's that blue shit on yer ahm. It's ishing!
Why do I get the feeling that if Lois and Clark had issues, Bruce would do exactly what Dickie is doing here and try to help out?
Like any real bro would!
100% accurate.
It did happen in the cartoon. Only it didn't work because Lois and him had dated.
@@NoBody-lj5xh Bruce encouraged Clark to look after Lois after Lois broke up with him. Bruce wasn't even mad about it.
One of the best boxing movies
LOL They always have someone walking their dog every time it gets heated at her house
You sir, have won the internet. Congratulations.
Two fantastic actors.
Great scene. I wish they didn't cut the beginning off though.
I actually recorded this very scene on my phone This Brings tears to my eyes Damn !!
luv this movie so much !!!
I know another boxers girlfriend who worked at a lotta bars...her kids are at her sistah’s.
I love this scene
1:21 I've always thought that he was sticking to his guns about him knocking down Leonard.
On the other hand, is that supposed to be him implying that he knows Leonard slipped?
It's a bit murky yes
Two absolutely amazing actors going toe to toe
Great scene
He knocked him down
Batman vs Lois Lane.
Fun Fact: Amy Adams helped Christian Bale and Cillian Murphy test for Batman and read the Rachel Dawes dialogue in the Batman Begins auditions. And just from the screen test, you can see how good her voice sounds as Rachel.
The problem is that the writing for lois was terrible.
Sugar Ray tripped for sure, saw the clip.
1:29 lol
great clips you have!
She's going dark.
If any Adams wasn’t rich and grew up poor she would have looked rough
How do you mean?
God she was good in this film
I always catch this movie on FX but I never see the part where he fights Gatti. Is it even in the movie? The guy he fought 3 times?
I remember the knockout in the third (?) fight is in the movie. That liver punch that sent gatti packing
Master Kim sun young
1:32-1:35 ADR.
Is that a cocker spaniel?
Im from mass and we don’t sound like this
I’m taking the kids to my sistas
And that Joker junk we got this time. Boring as hell!. Now this is how you add power to the scene.
Amy Adams overacting is the worst
Oh shut up she was not overacting at all idiot.
Thank you.. Everyone hypes her for no reason.. I just can't stand her
Has to be the worst criticism I've seen of Adams
I miss the movies..the real movies.
