Did they change that in her solo comic? Another question. Why couldn't they just made Ivy a bisexual instead of Harley which has already proven that they're great friends. It could easily create a dynamic of Harley seeing a functional and healthy relationship whole she's finally getting over Joker and it allows her to gain motivation and hope because her friend was able to find happiness even though Ivy hats most people. I just don't understand these short cuts fans like to make that disregards the history and friend dynamic that was created through decades. Would anyone mind explaining? I mean I want Destial to be a thing but I also get that Dean is straight so that would never happen but enjoying fanfiction and making fanfiction canon are completely different and makes no sense to me.

Ivy/Harley was an idea I had from that one episode of Batman: The Animated Series. I loved how comfortable they were, robbing stuff and gardening at the end. DC Seems VERY attracted to tragedy and despair. Did they ever have stories (or 1) where it's less depressing and more uplifting?
Well, it depends on which version your talking about. The Harley/Joker pairing in stuff like Lego Batman and some cartoons are healthy (well as healthy as two psychopaths dating each other can be). I personally prefer the pair as seen in TAS and the new Harleen series, where they acknowledge that the relationship is fucked up, but at the same time they’re perfect for each other.

Personally, I honestly think the recent comic break up was simply a victim of the "Heroes can't have healthy and happy relationships and be interesting" mentality that is all too prevailent in the medium, but as it was a same sex pairing it does sting quite a bit, especially since personally it does feel like the rug was pulled out for no reason. The stuff such as the statue listing though is bullshit.

It's more than this - Margot Robbie mentioned this couple and said she wanted to explore it in the movies. Combined with the show (which focuses on Harley and Ivy heavily too), and the miniseries, that means these two are getting a lot of buzz. Everything you said in the video was like the spark, and all of this gasoline. The discussion is also about how the miniseries doesn't let them kiss, or be unambiguously romantic. Batman and Catwoman have sex constantly, Harley and Ivy get a forehead kiss. I genuinely think if they had just kissed during their big dramatic break up, or at all during the series, a lot of the issues wouldn't exist. Combined with the fact that DC and Marvel heavily restricts gay creators/characters (Kate Leth and Sina Grace have talked about this), the reason is obvious Renee is an older woman and a c list character. Harley has become way mire popular over the years and is now an a lister, and therefore can't be too gay

When you're bi your sexuality doesn't change depending on who you happen to be dating at the time, like claiming they're suddenly straight for dating the opposite sex. You can date someone and still find others attractive.

Marquise Harris thats not what I’m saying. As I said, I like Harley and Ivy, but what I mean is I don’t want them together because of tokenization. The idea that gay couples are always happy is something I don’t want to see in comics because thats not true. People are people before their sex, so to say that a gay couple can’t go through something, even if it’s an irrational reaction or something neither of them really had anything to do with, is what I find infuriating about this situation. What I meant by girlfriend1 and girlfriend2 was that, not that they cannot still be characters in a relationship. By them not being able to work through something that effects their relationship or something that effects one of them, they become “that gay couple” where as what it should be is Harley x Ivy. People who say this break up or split shouldn’t have happened just want to see a happy gay couple where as people who actually read the comics want two characters in a realistic relationship that has its ups in downs (as realistic as a bleached psychotic psychiatrist and a women who can control plants/Pheromone can be)

This feels like DC just wanted to add a shocking twist moment and executed it incompetently with some terrible timing. That being said, with the aggressive amount of bi women in their comics and insand number of het couples it really is sad that they chose to clumsily break up a rare case of a monogamous couple with a bisexual member. It was a nice way to normalize against a very common stereotype of people.

Yes, DC HATES healthy relationships, heterosexual, homosexual, whatever. They did it to Clark and Lois because Bendis happened. They did it to Bruce and Selinaa in the most ridicukous way possible. They did it to Arthur and Mera, with her almost killing him out of literally nowhere. They did it to Dick and everyone else. Recently they did it to Diana and Trevor too. And of course, Harley and Ivy. I think the only ones that are safe by now are Barry and Iris.

Its sad as Harley and Ivy was one of the few Lesbian couples I knew in comics. I can tell you many male gay couple in comics, more so in Marvel than DC. But Lesbian representation is still very lacking and now their most popular highlight of that is taken away :(

There was also Scandal Savage and Knock Out... but I don't know if they survived the reboot. Over in Marvel there is Carolina Dean aka Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds from Runaways, who dated alien princess Xavine, Julie Powers (grown up from Power Pack), and Nico Minoru. The Midnight Angels from Wakanda, as well as friend of Ms Marvel Julie Harrison, and a couple of X people like Karma. Valkyrie from Asgard was revealed as bi in Fearless Defenders, and Angela, Thor's sister, became Queen of Hel to reunite with her girlfriend. There is also Ms America, America Chavez... but they've never shown her in a relationship, just had her be out and proud. And of course, the two lead characters from Strangers in Paradise, Katchoo and Francine. And if you dig waaaay back, you'll find Rainmaker from Gen 13. And if you like your comics rated R, Betty from Rat Queens is dating a girl named Faeyri. This was the best list my wife and I could come up with for Lesbian couples/characters.

As far as it goes on DC’s part, when you add up all the occurrences in such a short span of time it does begin to feel a little shady with their feelings toward the harley and ivy relationship. I don’t however believe they’ve got some sinister plot to demoralize and de value these characters and I do believe some people are digging WAY too deep into this. While I understand wanting these characters to be together, is turmoil and fallouts not a part of relationships? Just because these two are no longer together it doesn’t me they aren’t gonna cross paths again and or eventually get back with one another. As a matter of fact, it’d be kinda foolish to assume they won’t get back together eventually. Great video btw.
da gingerbread boi I think their relationship hitting a bump is fine. DC is known for not letting happy relationships stay that way for too long. Hopefully they can reconcile and it leads to some nice character growth and emotional writing but a break-up is natural. I do think think that the straw that broke the camels back was that post about Harley and Ivy being besties and which kinda erases their romantic relationship and past in the comics. That’s my issue here and Im not sure why they would do this unless they just don’t want people who only watch the movies and tv show to know about their relationship which is weird and disappointing.

So what I’m getting at is people are mad that in a fictional universe, characters can’t deal with realistic issues in relationships and problems that may effect how a character feels? I’m sorry but Harley and Ivy “breaking up” is not a big deal and just because they were in a same sex relationship doesn’t mean anything since they are going through something that a person/couple can go through. I like the comic relationship. It’s two previously established characters with development that happen to be in love. It’s great. They were representing the LGBT community and we were getting some kickass stories. Batwoman (CW) was iffy for me. It felt like they were trying too hard to include representation, but I still enjoyed Batwoman for what it offered
I’ve always felt that Ivy was more in love with plants than anything else. I’ve also always got the impression that Harley is so codependent that it doesn’t matter whether she’s with a girl or a guy. Her relationships are also messed up, but there are people out there so jonesing for modern lesbian couples that they’ll scream for anything.

Doesn't DC have a history of messing up relationships of all types. Shoot just off the top of my head I can thing of a few Batwoman's marriage, batman/catwoman, and I am not thrilled where superman's marriage went post bendis.
I've never been a fan of the romance personally. I've always liked their friendship and feel that even hinting at romance has only happened because fans have pushed so much for it over the years.

The creators have already confirmed that they will break up ivy and kiteman for season 2 of the animated show and then focus on the Harley/Ivy ship as the main relationship going forward. It’s their right I suppose since it is their show, I just think ivy and kiteman work well together.
H Dracon a reddit q&a with the creators, they said the only reason ivy is with kiteman is that she doesn’t value herself or something, and that will change in season two, she will get more confidence, more self assurance, realized she never loved “a joke like kiteman” and then will pursue Harley instead

Kinda sucks because even though Kite Man is an idiot, he really does care. He wants to take Ivy out, he gets a second job to cover the cost of their dates, and he drops everything to help her out.
My personal take is honestly them manufacturing the "outrage" just to bring them together for the next Harley Quinn movie... Or it's just a way to get Harley and/or Ivy to be single in the comics to put them with possibly other people in their own solo series or the next story arc. Either way, I think the break-up will just be temporary and they'll be back together soon. Harley/Ivy was never really one of my main ships, but I understand getting upset when your favorite ships are broken up for stupid reasons.

Well, I mean, Paul Dini if I remember correctly, wanted Harley and Ivy to be intimate as far back as TAS, but of course, couldn't do it at the time, so instead, he hid it in subtext... it's one of the reasons Harley is one of the few humans that Ivy cares about, AND a reminder that in TAS, Ivy inoculated Harley against her toxin's all the way back in TAS, sure there's the obvious "if you're working with me you need to be safe" angle, but there's also the fact that those innoculations would keep Harley safe from any fooling around they may do too. There was a LOT of gay coding for the pair. And the comic's eventually made it clear they were bi at minimum. I see your pinned comment says you missed something in Birds of Prey, which I've sadly yet to see, but I'm glad they have a line that mentions her bisexuality. But this has been the ongoing struggle with representation in the medium.
I might sound a bit controversial but...... I never been a fan of the Harley x ivy. Not because I’m anti - gay. I am not really a fan of the best friend becoming girl/boy friend cause it is too obvious and played out. But my main reason is that I have never seen it as healthy relationship. Ivy was one of the main reason why Harley left the joker. Ivy is emotional support during Harley transition from battered partner to her own person. Which is good but this a lot of physical, emotional and mental burden on Ivy and now on top of that they are adding romantic feeling. That’s is a lot to put on a person. In many series Ivy appears to Harley only support beam which is a lot pressure especially with a person like Harley who at time can she can be very selfish and needs constant care. Vice versa, Ivy is Harley confidante and Harley literally had no one else she could express herself fully with. (Most of the time) Imagine if there was a big fight or anything. Who else could Harley turn too? I think at times that the media and some fans today appear, underestimate the importance of good deep friendships and have make everyone romantic which is so annoying.

There are plenty of incredible films that don’t become blockbusters that have gained notoriety - just look at Oscar film nominations, lots of those don’t become blockbusters, but they are still good films. If box office performance is how you gauge films, you probably aren’t a good judge of quality.

Because IvyxHarley ship was the most organic and well built ship that ever did sail the ocean of shipping. It's not as random as you think as someone that has every comic, every show, every movie that Harley has ever been in. It seemed like it was building up for a long time before it happened. And honestly not only has the relationship been good not only for getting her away from joke but also has made her a more interesting and flushed out character and I'm not talk about from a "hey lesbian" point of view but a character development point of view. She has become more the just jokers mistreated and abuse girlfriend since she has been with ivy.

I understand being pissed off about the statue seeming to try to retcon the couple. But couples break up, if you want a true gay couple in comics, you have to be prepared for the break up that will eventually happen.
While i certainly believe in DC's statement of "love can take many forms, not just romantic", i understand how much it sucks to have to do it to a pair that people seem to absolutely adore. If anything, i somehow felt like this statement would somehow match if used with Batman and Catwoman (though i'm still a bit upset that they didnt go through with the marrige) because it comes to suit Batman's character more; the guy who still needs love like everyone else but is willing to be rejected so as to stay focused on his task on protecting the very same people he calls family. I guess maybe DC may (or may not) pick up where Ivy and Quinn's relationship status left off in order to maybe explore how the two handle being away from one another before being united again? Or i guess i'm being a bit too naively optimistic here?
They are bisexual characters, so they most likely will have a even less stable relationships than most comic book relationships; they are going to have to break up, get with some guys and then get back together again every few years to remind everyone that they aren't lesbians but bisexuals. In a story with a clear beginning, middle, and end like those in books, TV series and manga you could avoid doing that but in comics that in which everything either resets every couple years or continuous forever bisexual characters get a short end of the stick since some stereotypical trope like being promiscuous, or having unstable relationships or wanting to sleep with everything that moves have to be used so the readers don't forget they are bisexual when they are in a opposite sex relationship or people considering them gay/lesbian characters instead of bisexual characters when they are in the same sex relationship.
In a genre where people come back to life on a regular basis, I am confident that this relationship will be rekindled and probably burn even brighter than before. ;3 In the meantime, I think I'll actually try writing a story about the two...

Hi! I actually wrote the first tweet you showed which I greatly appreciate. What really pisses me off is DC has so many bisexual women characters and very rarely allows them to be in relationships with women. I'm fine with them breaking up. It happens. It's a comic book series. You need to make things interesting. What I have an issue with is the fact that this series, and many other wlw DC comics relationships, treats them as 'gal pals'. They need to stop with the innuendos. That isn't real representation. Making it clear is representation. Also in the issue where they broke up they did a forehead kiss, which implies that they are best friends instead of a couple. Imagine if they did that when Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor recently broke up. It's just ridiculous and it shows that they don't actually care.

I generally thought of it as they split them up and either by coincidence or purposely near singles awareness day and they needed a prominent character to feature. I could also see them having the description to imply the single best friend motif after they broke up, but it's still a lot that happened really fast.
They did this so that when ivy is introduced in the movies, they don’t have to put them together as anything more than best friends. This will keep the movie more marketable to the rest of the world, and therefore bring in more profit.
Harley and Ivy is one of my favorite comic book relationship. I feel Ivy is much better for Harley than the Joker. Over time Harley has become my absolute favorite comic characters and I want good things for her.

The latest Harley and Ivy comic really did have the dumbest of breakups. I mean common Ivy you’ve regrown yourself so many times how is Harley supposed to know the difference between you and a clone you yourself created? You can’t hold that on her.
I didn’t perform to WB’s expectations, but I don’t think the film is necessarily “flopping”. It’s gotten lots of praise, and I think the film was hurt by poor marketing. Also, the “R” rating doesn’t help. That was a bizarre decision because, cursing aside, the film could have easily been PG-13.
Allow me to pose a theory, it’s not because they’re in a gay relationship but rather DC is trying to take the characters in different directions. DC has had a massive push for Harley to become a Hero, so much so that she’s seen hanging with the Justice League all the time. At the same time Poison Ivy has always been a villain and at times blurring the lines, but DC in most of there current stories as Ivy being a straight up villain. That seems to be what the recent DC Harley and Ivy book did as Ivy is now the base villain again and Harley has decided to become a Hero our right. Again this is just a theory, but it would make sense with the direction both characters have been going over recent years.
They make such a great couple, and it's all the more resonant because they grew into the pairing after years of being together in real time. I can't believe that DC would permanently split them up. It seems more likely to me that this is simply manufactured drama, designed to capture applause when they correct course. Wouldn't be the first time they've done something like this. Hell, Lois Lane's split up with Clark a couple of times, right? Although, yeah, that Valentine's Day stuff was tone deaf as all Hell.

Well, it depends on which version your talking about. The Harley/Joker pairing in stuff like Lego Batman and some cartoons are healthy (well as healthy as two psychopaths dating each other can be). I personally prefer the pair as seen in TAS and the new Harleen series, where they acknowledge that the relationship is fucked up, but at the same time they’re perfect for each other.

Personally, I honestly think the recent comic break up was simply a victim of the "Heroes can't have healthy and happy relationships and be interesting" mentality that is all too prevailent in the medium, but as it was a same sex pairing it does sting quite a bit, especially since personally it does feel like the rug was pulled out for no reason. It's more than this - Margot Robbie mentioned this couple and said she wanted to explore it in the movies. Combined with the show (which focuses on Harley and Ivy heavily too), and the miniseries, that means these two are getting a lot of buzz. Everything you said in the video was like the spark, and all of this gasoline.
The discussion is also about how the miniseries doesn't let them kiss, or be unambiguously romantic. Batman and Catwoman have sex constantly, Harley and Ivy get a forehead kiss.
I genuinely think if they had just kissed during their big dramatic break up, or at all during the series, a lot of the issues wouldn't exist.
Combined with the fact that DC and Marvel heavily restricts gay creators/characters (Kate Leth and Sina Grace have talked about this), the reason is obvious

Marquise Harris thats not what I’m saying. As I said, I like Harley and Ivy, but what I mean is I don’t want them together because of tokenization. The idea that gay couples are always happy is something I don’t want to see in comics because thats not true. People are people before their sex, so to say that a gay couple can’t go through something, even if it’s an irrational reaction or something neither of them really had anything to do with, is what I find infuriating about this situation. What I meant by girlfriend1 and girlfriend2 was that, not that they cannot still be characters in a relationship. By them not being able to work through something that effects their relationship or something that effects one of them, they become “that gay couple” where as what it should be is Harley x Ivy. People who say this break up or split shouldn’t have happened just want to see a happy gay couple where as people who actually read the comics want two characters in a realistic relationship that has its ups in downs (as realistic as a bleached psychotic psychiatrist and a women who can control plants/Pheromone can be)
The one thing I don’t like about the Harley/Ivy thing is that DC is trying really hard to turn Harley into a Hero, which would probably spread to Ivy if they were in a relationship. This feels like DC just wanted to add a shocking twist moment and executed it incompetently with some terrible timing. That being said, with the aggressive amount of bi women in their comics and insand number of het couples it really is sad that they chose to clumsily break up a rare case of a monogamous couple with a bisexual member. It was a nice way to normalize against a very common stereotype of people.

Its sad as Harley and Ivy was one of the few Lesbian couples I knew in comics. I can tell you many male gay couple in comics, more so in Marvel than DC. But Lesbian representation is still very lacking and now their most popular highlight of that is taken away :(

Over in Marvel there is Carolina Dean aka Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds from Runaways, who dated alien princess Xavine, Julie Powers (grown up from Power Pack), and Nico Minoru. The Midnight Angels from Wakanda, as well as friend of Ms Marvel Julie Harrison, and a couple of X people like Karma. Valkyrie from Asgard was revealed as bi in Fearless Defenders, and Angela, Thor's sister, became Queen of Hel to reunite with her girlfriend. There is also Ms America, America Chavez... but they've never shown her in a relationship, just had her be out and proud. And of course, the two lead characters from Strangers in Paradise, Katchoo and Francine. And if you dig waaaay back, you'll find Rainmaker from Gen 13. And if you like your comics rated R, Betty from Rat Queens is dating a girl named Faeyri.

As far as it goes on DC’s part, when you add up all the occurrences in such a short span of time it does begin to feel a little shady with their feelings toward the harley and ivy relationship. I don’t however believe they’ve got some sinister plot to demoralize and de value these characters and I do believe some people are digging WAY too deep into this. While I understand wanting these characters to be together, is turmoil and fallouts not a part of relationships? Just because these two are no longer together it doesn’t me they aren’t gonna cross paths again and or eventually get back with one another. As a matter of fact, it’d be kinda foolish to assume they won’t get back together eventually. Great video btw.
da gingerbread boi I think their relationship hitting a bump is fine. DC is known for not letting happy relationships stay that way for too long. Hopefully they can reconcile and it leads to some nice character growth and emotional writing but a break-up is natural. I do think think that the straw that broke the camels back was that post about Harley and Ivy being besties and which kinda erases their romantic relationship and past in the comics. That’s my issue here and Im not sure why they would do this unless they just don’t want people who only watch the movies and tv show to know about their relationship which is weird and disappointing.

So what I’m getting at is people are mad that in a fictional universe, characters can’t deal with realistic issues in relationships and problems that may effect how a character feels? I’m sorry but Harley and Ivy “breaking up” is not a big deal and just because they were in a same sex relationship doesn’t mean anything since they are going through something that a person/couple can go through. Ivy was hurt because of something Harley most likely couldn’t have known about and while its kinda an irrational reaction on Ivy’s part, this is something that happens in real life too. People break up sometimes over things that they can’t possibly control and I’d much rather see them work through this and reflect actual emotions than have a completely tokenized happy same sex couple. Guess all same sex couples are happy all the time and never break up right?
I like the comic relationship. It’s two previously established characters with development that happen to be in love. It’s great. They were representing the LGBT community and we were getting some kickass stories. Batwoman (CW) was iffy for me. It felt like they were trying too hard to include representation, but I still enjoyed Batwoman for what it offered
I’ve always felt that Ivy was more in love with plants than anything else. I’ve also always got the impression that Harley is so codependent that it doesn’t matter whether she’s with a girl or a guy. Her relationships are also messed up, but there are people out there so jonesing for modern lesbian couples that they’ll scream for anything.

I've never been a fan of the romance personally. I've always liked their friendship and feel that even hinting at romance has only happened because fans have pushed so much for it over the years.

H Dracon a reddit q&a with the creators, they said the only reason ivy is with kiteman is that she doesn’t value herself or something, and that will change in season two, she will get more confidence, more self assurance, realized she never loved “a joke like kiteman” and then will pursue Harley instead

Kinda sucks because even though Kite Man is an idiot, he really does care. He wants to take Ivy out, he gets a second job to cover the cost of their dates, and he drops everything to help her out.
My personal take is honestly them manufacturing the "outrage" just to bring them together for the next Harley Quinn movie... Or it's just a way to get Harley and/or Ivy to be single in the comics to put them with possibly other people in their own solo series or the next story arc. Either way, I think the break-up will just be temporary and they'll be back together soon. Harley/Ivy was never really one of my main ships, but I understand getting upset when your favorite ships are broken up for stupid reasons.
Unfortunately comics absolutely suck when it comes to relationships. That's one thing I never hope for in comics cause I know it's gonna just be thrown away at a moment's notice.
Well, I mean, Paul Dini if I remember correctly, wanted Harley and Ivy to be intimate as far back as TAS, but of course, couldn't do it at the time, so instead, he hid it in subtext... it's one of the reasons Harley is one of the few humans that Ivy cares about, AND a reminder that in TAS, Ivy inoculated Harley against her toxin's all the way back in TAS, sure there's the obvious "if you're working with me you need to be safe" angle, but there's also the fact that those innoculations would keep Harley safe from any fooling around they may do too.
There was a LOT of gay coding for the pair. And the comic's eventually made it clear they were bi at minimum. I see your pinned comment says you missed something in Birds of Prey, which I've sadly yet to see, but I'm glad they have a line that mentions her bisexuality. But this has been the ongoing struggle with representation in the medium.

I might sound a bit controversial but...... I never been a fan of the Harley x ivy. Not because I’m anti - gay. I am not really a fan of the best friend becoming girl/boy friend cause it is too obvious and played out. But my main reason is that I have never seen it as healthy relationship. Ivy was one of the main reason why Harley left the joker. Ivy is emotional support during Harley transition from battered partner to her own person. Which is good but this a lot of physical, emotional and mental burden on Ivy and now on top of that they are adding romantic feeling. That’s is a lot to put on a person. In many series Ivy appears to Harley only support beam which is a lot pressure especially with a person like Harley who at time can she can be very selfish and needs constant care.
Vice versa, Ivy is Harley confidante and Harley literally had no one else she could express herself fully with. (Most of the time)
Imagine if there was a big fight or anything. Who else could Harley turn too?
I think at times that the media and some fans today appear, underestimate the importance of good deep friendships and have make everyone romantic which is so annoying.

The creators of Harley Quinn have confirmed it, admitting that they couldn't have depicted them as lesbians at the beginning because they were on a children's show. So instead they turned Ivy into a militant feminist type teaching the passive Harley how to be independent and brave. (I didn't see THELMA & LOUISE until many years later, but now I'm thinking, "Whoa, that's where Harley and Ivy came from. Harley is Thelma and Ivy is Louise.") They also had them walking around Ivy's home barefoot and with only shirts on, which was the only way they could show that the two were up to something naughty.

It's not as random as you think as someone that has every comic, every show, every movie that Harley has ever been in. It seemed like it was building up for a long time before it happened. And honestly not only has the relationship been good not only for getting her away from joke but also has made her a more interesting and flushed out character and I'm not talk about from a "hey lesbian" point of view but a character development point of view. Also I think it was Oliver's son that was gay not his daughter. So given your knowledge comes from show I can understand why you think the Harley x Ivy couple seems random. I understand being pissed off about the statue seeming to try to retcon the couple. But couples break up, if you want a true gay couple in comics, you have to be prepared for the break up that will eventually happen.
While i certainly believe in DC's statement of "love can take many forms, not just romantic", i understand how much it sucks to have to do it to a pair that people seem to absolutely adore. If anything, i somehow felt like this statement would somehow match if used with Batman and Catwoman (though i'm still a bit upset that they didnt go through with the marrige) because it comes to suit Batman's character more; the guy who still needs love like everyone else but is willing to be rejected so as to stay focused on his task on protecting the very same people he calls family.
I guess maybe DC may (or may not) pick up where Ivy and Quinn's relationship status left off in order to maybe explore how the two handle being away from one another before being united again? Or i guess i'm being a bit too naively optimistic here?
They are bisexual characters, so they most likely will have a even less stable relationships than most comic book relationships; they are going to have to break up, get with some guys and then get back together again every few years to remind everyone that they aren't lesbians but bisexuals. In a story with a clear beginning, middle, and end like those in books, TV series and manga you could avoid doing that but in comics that in which everything either resets every couple years or continuous forever bisexual characters get a short end of the stick since some stereotypical trope like being promiscuous, or having unstable relationships or wanting to sleep with everything that moves have to be used so the readers don't forget they are bisexual when they are in a opposite sex relationship or people considering them gay/lesbian characters instead of bisexual characters when they are in the same sex relationship.
I'd definitely rather ship Harley x Poison Ivy than Harley x Joker, even if they're platonic. These ppl who are offended over this needs to chill.

Hi! I actually wrote the first tweet you showed which I greatly appreciate. What really pisses me off is DC has so many bisexual women characters and very rarely allows them to be in relationships with women. I'm fine with them breaking up. It happens. It's a comic book series. You need to make things interesting. What I have an issue with is the fact that this series, and many other wlw DC comics relationships, treats them as 'gal pals'. They need to stop with the innuendos. That isn't real representation. Making it clear is representation. Also in the issue where they broke up they did a forehead kiss, which implies that they are best friends instead of a couple. Imagine if they did that when Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor recently broke up. It's just ridiculous and it shows that they don't actually care.

I generally thought of it as they split them up and either by coincidence or purposely near singles awareness day and they needed a prominent character to feature. I dont think a sisterly bond includes kissing on the mouth my dude but yeah, you have a point. Harley and Ivy used to be an interesting duo that I enjoyed reading about because whether or not they were a couple was left to my imagination. It's all fine in the comics but I feel like they are just advertising the characters for the fact that they are gay/bisexual instead of their interesting and compelling storyline and of course that means alot of people who have never read the original comics will come rushing in. (I'm talking about the movie fans)

The latest Harley and Ivy comic really did have the dumbest of breakups. I mean common Ivy you’ve regrown yourself so many times how is Harley supposed to know the difference between you and a clone you yourself created? You can’t hold that on her.

I didn’t perform to WB’s expectations, but I don’t think the film is necessarily “flopping”. It’s gotten lots of praise, and I think the film was hurt by poor marketing. Also, the “R” rating doesn’t help. That was a bizarre decision because, cursing aside, the film could have easily been PG-13.

Allow me to pose a theory, it’s not because they’re in a gay relationship but rather DC is trying to take the characters in different directions. DC has had a massive push for Harley to become a Hero, so much so that she’s seen hanging with the Justice League all the time. At the same time Poison Ivy has always been a villain and at times blurring the lines, but DC in most of there current stories as Ivy being a straight up villain. That seems to be what the recent DC Harley and Ivy book did as Ivy is now the base villain again and Harley has decided to become a Hero our right. Again this is just a theory, but it would make sense with the direction both characters have been going over recent years.

They make such a great couple, and it's all the more resonant because they grew into the pairing after years of being together in real time. I can't believe that DC would permanently split them up. It seems more likely to me that this is simply manufactured drama, designed to capture applause when they correct course. Wouldn't be the first time they've done something like this. Hell, Lois Lane's split up with Clark a couple of times, right? Although, yeah, that Valentine's Day stuff was tone deaf as all Hell.
