Really? Which country is having these disappointing sales? Here in the UK, the sales appear to be pretty strong. My local Mazda dealer claims he's happy with sales of the new MX-5
@@bigfatnick I'm 6ft1", and enjoy driving my NB. I think the new one has the same room (or lack of it) because I've sat in it, so I'd say they still cater for many more than just the tiny.
I've wondered if I'd get stuck on a Miata in a snowy road like those, and if rear wheel drive would be a problem for maneuverability. Could you use it as your mainly daily driver even if you use it often to go skiing in a place like Swizertland? I'm from Spain and I'm not that sure about this car being used on cold weather. In my country it would be no problem but I'm planning to move to the North.
@@jairon_2518, I'm from Ukraine sometimes with cold snowy winters up to -30"C. And my daily NC 1.8 soft top feels fine even at snowstorms and bad road conditions. I have a good winter tires and a showel in a trunk. But I never use it outside of open parking lot.
My ND Club is hibernating until the last salt truck does it’s damage and the deluge comes and cleans up our Canadian roads… As the spring birds chirp my sleepy MX5 will emerge from its slumber and it’s shadow it will see as she makes her way to our local Mazda shop for a renewal of her life blood w-something or other so she can conquer the twisty mountain roads of the Laurentian’s. This winter would have been an epic one for her to sport studded Nokian’s and take us on a ski adventure. Perhaps next year my dear friend next year will be the snowy adventure you longed for!
This is such a coincidence! I happen to be born in the city of Luleå, in northern Sweden! AND I just, the other month, ordered a red MX-5 2022 soft top! Won't get it until October this year though... Considering how things are in the world... Enjoyed the video though, 10/10 would also drive in winter, just for the playfulness of the gearbox and RWD!
From the owner's manual: "Do not raise or lower the convertible top when the temperature is below 5 °C (41 °F) ; this will damage the convertible top material".
James, you should been there, in the Arctic, when the temperature drops to -50, or -58 fahrenheit. That's cold, when the plastic pieces breaks like crispbread. When you have to drive very slowly the first half hour to make the tires turn round. Your mobile phone has stopped working for a long time, and if the engine stops, you will die if you do not have enough clothes.
@@hansolo6827 Autumnal moth eggs will die when it's colder than -37 celsius, and you feel, its so cold that nature also will kill you. I don't wanna drive then. It's to risky if anything happens, but the life goes on, and people drive around, walks, and go up to the mountains. It seems there is no problems, just bad clothes.
@@hansolo6827 There was a man, who had an Morgan. He used it as his everyday car. In fact it was his only car. I could rarely see him drive with open top when it was colder than - 30, but he drove.
Hmm, the road switches from ice to tarmac then snow again so there had to be quite a back up crew to change and carry the studded and non-studded tyres around because you can not fit even one wheel in the boot of an ND. There's no way you can do that trip unsupported as the video implies.
They are great cars but I’ve found the engines lacking as std. I do enjoy embarrassing ND owners in my Mk1 Eunos Roadster that I’ve turbocharged though, the looks on their faces are gold!
Not to mention that you’ve turbocharged yours - as if people can’t modify their ND... I think it’s a case of sour grapes here: envy is a bad thing little one. Concentrate on yourself and one day you may be able to purchase that ND you desperately desire but can not afford. Second hand, naturally.
Ewen Bruce well since you only answered one of two questions I posed... yes please. Actually, maybe just stop watching while you’re ahead. You wouldn’t want to see anymore potential clickbait because something is said to be incredible, epic, or colossal, right?
Glad I have my MX-5 in the garage ready to go anytime, and yes I drive it in the Swedish winter too
Hur är den att köra på vintern? Är smått sugen på en!
@@limmeRBK Funkar utmärkt. Liten kupe så den värms snabbt upp och med diffbroms så driver den på ganska bra.
What an epic trip. Well done Auto Express. My only wish the video has been a longer.
Beautifully shot and presented.
It's sad how barely anyone buys this brilliant car, if sales numbers continue to decline there will be no MX-5 in the future...
They are everywhere here in the UK, I have one, love them.
I suppose they’re rare because they’re not practical. I have one but I also have another car
Really? Which country is having these disappointing sales? Here in the UK, the sales appear to be pretty strong. My local Mazda dealer claims he's happy with sales of the new MX-5
Because (as ashamed as i am) people in the year 2019 are too fat and tall to fit in a car designed for tiny people.

This is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen
Tyres are EVERTHING! Great video
Three pounds of ballast in the trunk would really aid the bite of those snow tires, lol.
ive owned 6 miatas up here in Alaska, they do just fine in snow, ice and 40 below
the ND miata with abs, traction control etc would be a breeze
NAs too?

Great video James. The MX-5 is a car to bond with, unlike the sea of SUV's with no personality whatsoever.

Fabulous video. A tribute to the MX5. Congrats!
Absolutely great video! Loved it! when did you run it? month? thx

Here is the trick...heat up the car once there is no snow or ice on the soft top drop the roof ;) that would cause no damage at all!

Which model year manual are you quoting? This was true of my NB which had a vinyl top. Cloth is more flexible in lower temps.
How was the heating in the car??

I agree. Would be fun to drive in winter but the snow melt used in New Hampshire would rust the heck out of it
