Casting director for this show did a stellar job on this cast
James Mcavoy is a fantastic actor, but a shit choice for Asriel. Lyra is meant to be terrified of him yet especially in the early scenes, he had about as much gravitas as a Blue Peter presenter.
@@davebox588 OMG THIS. I'm listening to the audiobook again and it describes him as this tall man with huge shoulders and a dark face and Lyra is afraid of him, but James McAvoy is none of these things. No offense, James.

Agree about James Mcavoy also. Can't imagine him trecking across Arctic wastes researching dust. A really good actor but poor choice for this part.

It seems that only Lin knows what exactly Dust is, the other two haven't apparently read the whole source material. Anyway, when I first read that Lin would play Mr. Scoresby (one of my favourite characters in the books), I didn't think this was a good pick as I imaged Mr. Scoresby to be a rather older polite cowboy, more like a grandfather figure. But Lin-Manuel's interpretation of Mr. Scoresby is really good, I enjoyed the character twist and how he approached the character. Well done, Lin-Manuel.
to be honest I imagine Scoresby exactly like him. It is incredible how well Lin portrayed him

And they got him to sing! To fuse the greatest talent of Miranda with such an amazing character was magical for me

It's so weird seeing Dafne looking so gorgeous and grown up. It feels only like yesterday when she was an 11-year-old goofball having the time of her life on the set of Logan.
She is still a bit of a goofball. Though not as hyper as she was a few years ago. But she tends to be giddy and free-spirited.

Great interview, as a huge fan of the books, it's really cool to hear the actors discussing the characters and themes etc. Dafne's answers were great; seems like she's really enjoying the part! Really excited for this series
I love how they really appreciate the intent of the source material. I love it when actors really get in the head space of the characters and the writers! Can’t wait to see more of it. These were my favorite books I’m so glad HBO will work on this they will do it justice

Dafne started her career in a huge movie with one of the biggest actors in Hollywood Hugh Jackman in Logan. . She is now working for HBO in this amazing series and she is only 15 years old. She is a badass and an inspiration to work hard anything is possible

Ruth Wilson is amazing, she's 1 of those actresses that can say a lot without saying anything, Dafne is amazing to I'm glad she's doing well
I read all the books years ago in my early teens when I was in school and I loved and enjoyed them so much, they were my favourite books! I can't remember every single detail in the books as it has been quite some years but I do remember that I enjoyed them so much that they were my favourite (I may read them again to remind myself properly). Phillip Pullman is an amazing author and the cast chosen are amazing! But I LOVE this series too and can't wait to see the next upcoming episodes! I hope at least all these books will be turned into the series (episodes) and maybe even more! :D

I just realized when Lin-Manuel Miranda mentioned Mary Poppins, that Ruth Wilson was also part of a film that paid homage to the story of Mary Poppins when she played Margaret Goff in “Saving Mr. Banks”. Looks like these two actors were connected in a way even before they started acting together...

I did hear that line in In The Heights and I did think about Will and Lyra in book 3 and the fact Lin is a huge fan and was inspired by the books make it even better.
My favorite shows are Devs, the man who fell, and now this. And this is hands down the best show I’ve ever seen.
I’ve read most of the books and I’ve watched the 2 seasons that have been released and I actually prefer the TV show to the book and a lot of that is actually down to the cast and the dæmons. I love the way they portray this. I can’t wait for the 3rd series. This seems like a lovely cast and Dafne Keen and Lin-Manuel Miranda are especially good. I also like the boy who plays Roger. 😭

I think the way I understood Dust was that it was symbolic of maturity and knowledge - like eating the apple of Eden, a sin but knowledge which comes to you when you mature. The Magisterium don’t like Dust because knowledge means that the people won’t be ignorant, and thus harder to control
The should this to the Name of the Wind and the Wise mans fear. Not exactly the most child-friendly series but its great!

What thrills me about this production is that even the actors seem to be so well-versed in the source material. I really hope they wont flunk it up in later seasons like GOT did. But all I have seen from this show so far is very promising! Can't wait for it to air.
'Word is that Mrs. Coulter is a horrible, horible mean person n the book'. 'Oh, misunderstood' xD Oh I like it that we'll get to know her a bit more. I am curious^^ I wanna dig deeper as to why she is so horrible.
That is exactly what draws me so much to this story, the relationship between human and daemon. It is so deep and complex and intimate. It is learning about yourself and loving yourself. It is very, very beautiful and oh so important! And teh contrast between Lyra with Pan and COulter with her Dae is very symbolic. If you don't love or take care of your daemon, you have a problem with yourself. You don't like/love yourself or loath yourself like she stated. I am a sucker for symbolismn :3
I think I'm gonna love that most too, the more time the series has to really dive into details of teh books. So much happens there and it's impossible to put that in a movie. 8 hour per book? That is awesome! 8D Darker than the movie? Nice! :D
