I grew up down the street from Holy Cross in the 1980s and kids were still talking about the Killer Clowns. We all believed that someone driving an ice cream truck was a clown that was abducting children. Many of the ice cream trucks at the time had clown decals on the back of them asking motorists to slow down and watch for children. One time we saw kids in the back of an ice cream truck and we went running home to tell our parents that we saw the Killer Clown Ice Cream Truck. I think this was only ever urban legend, though. I mean, there were probably people dressed as clowns wielding knives, but if there was actually a toddler hung and spray painted black, a record of that would exist in the KC Star archives or KCPD's cold case files. There wasn't a cover up. Most likely just true events becoming more "wild" as kids shared the stories with one another.

I went to Manchester from 1st to 3rd grade. I remember the panic but not any incidents that you are talking about. I'd like to see an old newspaper clipping.

I was a living witness to this madness! When I was young he drove down our street! It was a white van with a big Spider artwork on it!! The killer clown was changing his vans! I personally believe that it was more than one person doing this! Or there have been many copy catters. Such crazy times, no one was safe!! I remember this and I am over 50 ish!

I was in kindergarten or 1st grade at Troost Elementary School when an ice cream truck pulled up to the street while we were at recess. We had men teachers and a male principal, Mr. Yvette. We were all rushed back into the school when a male teacher spotted it was a clown in the truck and all the male teachers rushed out of the school!!! Now that I’m older I realize that THEY ARE WHAT YALL PROTECTORS LOOKED LIKE!!! 🥰
Also one of my friends was taken by the clown, we moved right after that. 😢

I grew up in Charlie Parker Square in the 80s and stayed directly across the street from Wayne Manor housing project and there was plenty of rumors about the killer clowns and it was a horrifying aspect having that implanted in your brain as a child but I never seen any proof of it and I stayed in the projects from 79 to 93 so I am more up to think it was a urban legend

My mom and dad both grew up in Kansas City my mom actually told me the clowns got so bad they started coming through the roof of the kids bathrooms to snatch them and teachers had to be in the restroom with them , then my dad told me him and his cousin used to walk to school and a ice cream truck with clowns pulled up and they ran home it’s real no joke my parents are both 41 now so that was in the 80’s
