    • @The13thGhostBunny
      @The13thGhostBunny Год назад +20

      I think so too. It's a game that really encourages formation\team play via mechanics. Sure, you can run off, but you're nowhere near as effective on your own, easily killed, and you cost your whole team much more morale than were you to die as part of a formation.

    This game is completely legit. The sense of chaos is just fantastic, my entire regiment walked into a brutal ambush the last time I played. The CO was all apologetic back at spawn and I’m like no dude, that was one of the most epic experiences I ever had. We were so close they surely heard us bullshitting and they all held fire until their glorious moment was inevitable. I could only slow clap as I lay there dead. Listening to my comrades dying and fighting in a bayonet charge from the woods we just took hell from. I have that moment saved and I will rewatch it and smile. You hear a few pops. Someone screams union behind, I turn to see a wall of flame and smoke ripping away about 50 yards maybe….I fired one shot in confusion and ran about five feet before I fell, it’s the shit that makes me happy to be a gamer.

    • @WorthABuyreviews
      @WorthABuyreviews  Год назад +19

      5:55 in this video, same happened to us, we were about to flank the Union but they heard us coming and a group went into the woods and ambushed us as we received our orders. I heard the sound of bayonets killing people just to my left, looked around and all these Union boys come out of nowhere shooting and stabbing, we got destroyed.

      @sealboy1211 Год назад +4

      @@christianzilla the atmosphere carry’s the experience for me. Quiet moments of marching. Punctuated by a shell from a distant cannon making a mess, or maybe you see a so called Rambo, the CO orders a few men to fire upon the loner and about 30 fire at once. And we watch the figure somehow run off unscathed while we have a good laugh. The best are the moments that you have survived a big engagement. Bodies strewn about as the smoke clears. a few stragglers being bayoneted and you just look around at the corpses of friend and foe, sometimes a leg here or an arm there. Some convincing pain and dying animations and groans and such from the corpses and it really can pull you in. Sure, someone is going to play lynyrd skynyrd on as you charge into some cornfield but this is as close as I’ll ever get to the experience sans re-enactments.

    Been playing this myself and absolutely love it, and that's coming from someone who usually hates multiplayer pvp games. The focus on immersion and teamwork is what really made me love it. No kill counts and specific player stats, no health bars or even really a hud; just you and your 30 second load musket standing in formation hearing musket balls whizz past your head, dropping allies, as you await your commander's order to fire. Game really shines when you get officers and NCOs who know what they're doing. Who'd have thought being a rank and file soldier in the American Civil War would be so much fun!

    It should be noted that unlike holdfast, war of rights allows you to spawn back with your unit if the flag is kept off the ground and picked up again if the flag bearer dies. This is magic and means most of your time you are with your regiment, not at the other end of the map facing a huge run to the battle.

    One of my favorite buys of the last several years. The camaraderie you feel when you play with a well disciplined formation is unmatched in most other games I’ve played.
    And yes, it’s fascinating to see that even if the players disagree with the commander’s orders they may groan but they’ll still carry them out. It really makes one feel like you’re a cog in a war machine, in a fun way.

    The whole teamwork thing IS awesome, basically the opposite of your standard COD type FPS; but I feel like Mack didn't emphasize how non-intuitive this game can be. Like...go ahead and try to fire the artillery, see if you can guess where to even aim. The game needs a tutorial or something, because instead of hand-holding, it slaps your hand away and tells you to research how to play. It's a game where you really NEED to make friends who know what they are doing, or else you'll probably just feel lost.

  • @MichaelJ44
    @MichaelJ44 Год назад +3

    Not having individual player stats is good also, all you need is a timer, a compass and a score count. I feel as though flash bearers should give the team bonus points (or something of the sort) as long as the flag is held, to give them an increased self of importance.
    Also very nice Graphics, love how the smoke after firing fades off into the sky

    • @andrewstupp7184
      @andrewstupp7184 Год назад +1

      Flag bearers are mobile spawn points for the infantry. They give a great bonus to resupplying your lines anywhere on the field, as long as there are enough players around. The different formation states has it so if you are "Out of Line" troops can't spawn on the flag.

    This is like a generational issue of that it takes a game like this to get the sort of teamwork that was normal in games like Project Reality back in ~2008. Today's PR successors, such as Squad and Hell Let Loose, are just a mess, at best a squad staying together and no real teamwork or officers following orders. Funnily enough a game like this looks sutiable to play realistically - i.e run away lol, men must have been brainwashed into a dog to follow orders in that era of warfare. This will make you laugh. I joined a regiment that had drills every week. Afterwards, they would break it down be like "How could we improve this" and every single time I would say, "I'd like to have fun please, this was boring".
      Some months down the line, another regiment member is telling me they are the strictest in the game. "Nobody else is like this?" I asked. He replied "Nope". I quit then and there and joined a group of disciplined nutcases called the 30th Ohio. It's been a blessing ever since.

    1 ticket for an in formation death, 2 for a skirmish death (since latest updates) and 5 for an out of line death. Also suppression and fatigue are greatly increased when not in formation

    one of the biggest strongsuits of macks work is, and i can never not notice it, how he casually mentions stuff about the game he WABs and then without even pointing it out, it actually is proven and shown at the same time in the video, such subtlety! me thinks of that as great.

    Great if the history is accurate and it is educational as well as fun. Need a followup game on the original founding of the country, the why, the how, the battles, again with authenticity and the reasons for the constitution and bill of rights etc.
