We can easily forget how much work goes into forging a knife. Thanks, buddy. This has been great so far.
May be the start of a new series... What if I call it "I Forge A Knife Under Pressure"? 🤪
You not talking on a video is the weirdest thing that’s happened on RUclips.
Lol keep up the great content 🪲
Sssh!! 😸🤙
Hmm... I'm not sure if that will make the cut. Perhaps a pun?
Why do you not pinch your choil with the round portion of your rounding hammer
Thank you so much, I'm planning to start my first knife journey soon. I've been sharpening steel for 25 years, however finding the best knife has made me hungry to produce my own.
There is something relaxing for me hearing the ring of steel on anvil. This video format transports me back in time when I was a toddler. My grandma has a scythe and blade business and she has several smiths employed. I would be awoken by the ringing of the hammers and it is a comforting sound. Thank you, Green Beetle for reminding me of my childhood and my grandma.
I’ve been worried about you steve as I haven’t seen anything from you in so long now I was Thinking about dropping by to check on you , but then I remembered I’m in Australia and other than you being in America I don’t know where you are so I’ve had to be content with crying myself to sleep each night
Glad I'm not his only Aussie fan lol

It's good to show how much muscle goes into forging a blade to this extent. If it were easy, everyone would do it. Well done.
Ty. I haven’t forged a lot recently and when it happens I use the press. One forgets what it takes to hand forge something.
I love how this is shaping up so far!! The profile looks really nice. I am excited to see what else happens under pressure:)
Always a pleasure watching a knife coming to life 👍
it*s cool to see a proper forging from flat bar to profile, it's allot more work than a rough forge and cutting out the profile.
love your content.
It must have been said before, but I'll say it again. Watching your videos is amazing, the detail you create, the tempo and all of it.. It's so therapeutic to watch. Thank you for the upload =D
🙏
Now young Padawan you are a true blacksmith you have made a knife by true blacksmith ways , may the power of the Forge be with you always.
Appreciate the effort of hand forged bevels vs grinding from a billet. cheers for the vid.
I really appreciated and enjoyed this video even if I did miss your commentary.
Thanks, for me that was an excellent fforging lesson.
I appreciate the focus on how to forge and what parts of the process are the most important. This is cool. I do like it when you explain yourself as you go, but this did not need words. Well done!
Glad you liked it!
No way would I have my bare-ass hands out if I were doing this lol, Great video!
Does what it says on the tin. 10/10
That's looking really nice so far.
Really nice shape on the blade. Oddly meditative video.
Glad you enjoyed it. People ask for forge sounds only videos so I’m giving it a try.
Great commentary and impeccable audio 😉😁🤘
🧐😂
Beautiful lines.🙂👍
A few days ago, i made i knife almost look like this...that i saw from Pinterest
Good to see someone going back to basics
thank you
Man, that is a beautiful profile. Can't wait to see the finished knife.
Very nice. I look forward to seeing the next stage
Nice clean forging. Keep them coming. I enjoy it greatly.
Awesome video
Very nice 👍 And only took 10 minutes!
Yep! Thankfully grinding, sanding, heat treating and handling only takes 8 minutes so this thing will be finished in no time. 😁
Fantastic work, Steve! Nicely done! 😃
I just shared your video, you won't believe it... In an astronomy group on Facebook!
Because... Did you notice that the metal loses temperature faster exactly where you hit it (putting pressure)? Yeap, that's what happens in the nucleus of big enough stars... They create metal, but then they don't have enough pressure and heat to make it fuse into heavier elements. So, it starts to accumulate... Until it has too much mass, collapses and the star is gone. Boom! 😬
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Woah 😮! Ty
Absolutely loved this video. Thank you!
Yay, hand forging on RUclips!
Now will you please take a grinder and clean up the edges of your anvil? 😉
Great forging demo, Steve!
ty!
lovely work, inspiring !!!
Cheers 🍻 Steve. We love ya ❤️
Now that's a knife!
Really enjoyed this. Reminds me of Andy Rawls-type woodworking videos
Cool, thanks!
You should make a Damascus Knife made out of failed Knives
It is nice to see you on the hammer again. I was concerned that maybe you had some physical damage from hand forging all of those beautiful blades throughout the years and had to rely on the press more from necessity than for convenience which would be a shame because you are an absolute genius with the hammer. Great video as always. Thank you for sharing.
I do have recurrent tendinitis in my right elbow that flares any time I forge more than a few minutes. 😞 Tip to the young guys - this stuff will catch up with you, treat your body right!
Good hammer = no fish-mouth. Nice.
Been a while since we've seen something like this on the channel
Bonus points thought for originality on this channel in that its actual piece of bar stock and not some rusty, busted arse chuck of stuff you found :)
More like “only forging a nice one”. Am I right!?!?
I’ll see myself out.
Nice one Steve👍 even tho I am still unlikely to try this voodoo, without a single word or reference/deference to fictitious paper towel entities...that was prrobly one of the most informative forging how to's I've ever seen🍺
👍. TY.
Always a pleasur watching you forge a beautiful knife. But missing your voice-over. But you can´t have everything. Great work on this one.
Sorry, but it's not the same without the witty voiceover. That's one of my favorite things about your channel.
He grabbed the junky hammer to purposely hit the edge of the anvil on the second swing, or maybe “purposely” would be the proper term
I love how precise your work is. calm, deliberate hits with not too much nor too little force behind them.
your videos always calm me down :)
I was wondering - what tool in your shop is your overall favorite?
press
A video devoid of GB's humor seems so strange.
you scale fish as to not dull thee Fillet Knife
Knowing me, I probably forget that it was hot and end up touching the blade while trying to get it, right
noice
ty!
Thank you for what you do. What was the total time for this knife?
About 60 min forging? I didn’t keep track.
That's faster than I would have figured. I assume that's just the forge work?
is charcoal good for basic steel forging?
It can be done, you’ll want a blower to get it hotter, it will burn up pretty fast.
Forging a knife by hand is becoming a lost art. Many people today grind to shape, and call it art, when in reality, all they are doing is cutting a knife out of a piece of metal. They will tell you that, "Grind to shape is actually better because when you forge the blade, you induce stresses in the steal." This is true, forging induces stresses in the steal, however, there are methods to take the stresses out of it. The most popular one is to thermo cycle the blade. Therefore, the only real difference is that people don't want to do the extra steps like forging to shape, forging bevels, thermocycling, ect.
I do want to point out that I have nothing against grinding to shape, especially if they are making knives for business, however, when it comes to art, the individual should put as much hand work into it as they can, to establish a human connection to the piece. If they neglect this process, then the machine is making the product, and not the craftsman.
Hm. Today I watched some guy forge a knife traditional style out of bar stock.
It couldnt have been Steve. Steve talks a lot and is really funny and makes knives out of really weird shit.
.... It certainly wasn't clickbait
But it was a nice video. Very tranquil.
Yes, some people leave feedback they just want to hear the sounds of the forge.
cool video and great process but I actually miss you talking....
Needs more talking. Where's Steve? Where's he gone?
😎
