There is something relaxing for me hearing the ring of steel on anvil. This video format transports me back in time when I was a toddler. My grandma has a scythe and blade business and she has several smiths employed. I would be awoken by the ringing of the hammers and it is a comforting sound. Thank you, Green Beetle for reminding me of my childhood and my grandma.

It's good to show how much muscle goes into forging a blade to this extent. If it were easy, everyone would do it. Well done.

Fantastic work, Steve! Nicely done! 😃
I just shared your video, you won't believe it... In an astronomy group on Facebook!
Because... Did you notice that the metal loses temperature faster exactly where you hit it (putting pressure)? Yeap, that's what happens in the nucleus of big enough stars... They create metal, but then they don't have enough pressure and heat to make it fuse into heavier elements. So, it starts to accumulate... Until it has too much mass, collapses and the star is gone. Boom! 😬
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

It is nice to see you on the hammer again. I was concerned that maybe you had some physical damage from hand forging all of those beautiful blades throughout the years and had to rely on the press more from necessity than for convenience which would be a shame because you are an absolute genius with the hammer. Great video as always. Thank you for sharing.

It can be done, you’ll want a blower to get it hotter, it will burn up pretty fast.

Forging a knife by hand is becoming a lost art. Many people today grind to shape, and call it art, when in reality, all they are doing is cutting a knife out of a piece of metal. They will tell you that, "Grind to shape is actually better because when you forge the blade, you induce stresses in the steal." This is true, forging induces stresses in the steal, however, there are methods to take the stresses out of it. The most popular one is to thermo cycle the blade. Therefore, the only real difference is that people don't want to do the extra steps like forging to shape, forging bevels, thermocycling, ect.
I do want to point out that I have nothing against grinding to shape, especially if they are making knives for business, however, when it comes to art, the individual should put as much hand work into it as they can, to establish a human connection to the piece. If they neglect this process, then the machine is making the product, and not the craftsman.
