I worked in this mall for years. So sad to see it die over the years- it was a beautiful mall. Parisian closed in 2007 and then the other stores started slowly closing. Belk stayed open until 2023. Thank you for covering this. Brought back memories.
Such a big culture change...my Saturdays were spent at our local mall when I was a middle school and then a high school student...I then worked at that same mall in high school and college...as did most of my friends...so sad to watch these social/commercial centers shut down and be demolished. 😢 46:44
So cool that people got to go in this mall before the demo started. First one a seen was from The Proper People. I remember doing there as a small child. My parents, aunts and uncles have many great memories from this mall (: Also, Columbia was really into putting things on rooftops in this era I feel like. The cinema is one of a few rooftop attractions in Columbia I've heard stories about. Love the video!
How old is this video? Richland mall was demolished 4 months ago its 10 minutes from me and i kick myself in the ass for not taking this tour myself. Also the pandemic didnt kill this mall, the area did. Violence and estruction did
He mentioned having to take quite a bit of time off in one of his latest videos..he probably edited in what time he had cuz I first thought the same thing lol
Sad 😥 I used to go to the mall alot doing my teenager years, chilling... arcade, food court, yogurt spot, justice ❤, Belks, bookstore 📚 reading in the back on a pallet with other teens reading,.. separately ❤ fountain ⛲ sketching 😂❤❤❤ memories 😍
The first store was Belk the last department store left. There used to be a Verizon call center in there and PWC. Numbers on the cubicles weren’t for the stores . Those were the cube numbers for PWC. I worked there for a little
That first big department stores that you thought might be a Dillard's or a JCPenney's had ironing stations and steaming areas for the clothing that they would put out on the sales floor. That's what you were looking at
The first piece of equipment was for ironing the display clothes, because when they came through shipping, they were often wrinkled, and didn’t have the pleats properly lined u;, the second one with the pedals is a press you would use for the men’s pants and such to get the crease in the legs perfectly for display 😊
I saw a news video about this mall. They did take out the time capsule to place in the ground of whatever is going to be built. This was a neat video. It makes me sad to see another mall gone.
Already happened here in late 90's early 2000's This was sending everything overseas to be made cheaper and recently we're trying to pull that back and foreign countries don't like it. We had 2 malls, one torn down and another almost went bankrupt but thankfully for the movie theaters it stayed open but still struggles but because they owned the land and paid off the building in the 80's they can keep going
At 5:04 into the video, the two machines are garment press machines. Like an iron, they remove wrinkles from the fabric.. Yea, our lives have changed for better or worse ( depends of what you believe). If it were up to me. I would rather go back to the good ole days. The mall was always the best hang out place.
3 quick thoughts: 1-We had a Parisians in our mall in the late 80s, early 90s. They had nice, expensive stuff. 2-Is anything saved for reuse before demolition like the beautiful marble, bricks, unique trimwork, columns, mirrors, etc? 3-Not sure about other areas, but I think one of several reasons our mall is dying is the changing demographics. It used to be mostly women, children, and families. Now, it's mostly local and foreign men in a dead space. Women don't feel safe shopping there anymore.
Amazing how important malls were in our daily lives Then pandemic hit and not that important anymore I really do not like to shop the mall unless i really have to now Thank you for sharing this exploration Take care and stay safe See you in the next video ❤❤❤❤
If investors refuse to spend the money to convert into homes for the homeless, just to turn around and not to make money on them, Why not turn them into high dollar condos with restaurants, movie theatres, grocery stores etc.. basically their own self sufficient “cities”
Because by claiming it's an unworkable dump that can't be used for anything but landfill, the billionaire developers get more of our tax dollars (subsidies or breaks) to build things we can't afford to use.
Sad to say I’ve lived through this. Shopping malls caused many outdoor strip store plazas to close in the 1960s. The internet brought more variety at better prices, as well as options like Amazon and eBay by the later 1090s. Malls emptied and closed down. The few that remained after 2010 struggled in my region. Covid was just a final push to on-line shopping in IMO. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!❤
Everybody getting lazy because they rather sit on they a$$ and shop online rather than enjoy walking around the malls, malls were a go-to place just to get out of the house , if yall seen the movie Wall-E i feel like thats where were aheading to
I'm pretty sure the first department store you're in was a Belk. And those fixtures in the associates area are steam presses for suits. I'm pretty sure that's what they were.
Every section on the walls were different brands of clothing. In the middle was typically more makeup/perfume/jewlery. Looks like my local mall that’s completely abandoned now. Macys for me.
Sadly across the country they could turn places like this into “actual affordable housing” but they don’t because some venture capital companies demolish this and build condos with $3500 a month rent
I too am from the region this mall is located. In it's day it was a bustling mall, full of stores and people. I absolutely loved the architecture in this mall, it was so unique compared to its rivals. But the pandemic did not shut this mall down. It was barely inhabited by a couple stores in 2016 as many parts were being used by large businesses as excess space. I was working in the litigation department of a law firm that had rented a huge section. Nevertheless, I hate that it's gone. I have many memories of being with my grandmother there and even opening my first credit card account. I see the same future for the largest mall in Columbia. Looking forward to the video.. i'm bad about nitpicking where my state is concerned but I'll be good. I'm glad it was documented properly. Thank you . Take care, stay safe & prayers to you and your son and family 🙏 xoxo Kat
@@Mom2my4blessings I know, and I know this is an unpopular comment; BB mentioned he thought "cookie cutter" homes were going to be built there; the more homes there are, the less expensive they are (more supply); I don't like it, just stating what I think is the sad truth.

Lots of youtubers dont upload instantly after recording videos
Delaying vids also keeps more/ destructive people out of these highly public abandoned spaces- often, its just respectful

Love the shot of your truck! I think that equipment would be for pressing/ironing clothes
Always sad to see any business close! Awesome video & explore as usual! 👍👍❤️✊🤘
Such a stunning mall!😍😍🥰🤗 Thank you for sharing it Big Bankz👍🌹
Ever since covid there is no connection. People are so disconnected with everything I've come to notice.

so sad but you always do a amazing job
So glad you did this one. I loved to go shopping on a day trip.
And now it no longer exists. But I saw Blade 2 on opening night at that theater, it was packed.
Full of memories and sadness😢😢
What a shame they tear these buildings down when there's so many homeless people!! Love your channel ❤️ 💕

I got my first real gold necklace and Zale's at the Mall 😂❤ , my Sunday boutique clothes at a exquisite shop at the Mall.
LOVED THE VIDEO,
AS ALWAYS, FANTASTIC.
CAN'T WAIT TILL THE NEXT ONE.
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND STAY SAFE AND WELL 💞💞❤
Why don’t they take these old Malls & buildings & make them affordable housing! Then we wouldn’t have so many homeless..
I 💙 BigBankz Channel ‼️💯🔥

I’ve been wondering this for the last several years. It makes so much sense.

29:19 were u flying a drone or was that flies????
Everybody getting lazy because they rather sit on they a$$ and shop online rather than enjoy walking around the malls, malls were a go-to place just to get out of the house , if yall seen the movie Wall-E i feel like thats where were aheading to
I would get lost in that mall if I was there
Intersting video
Big Bankz was thinking of you and your son and fiancé not to long ago prayed see you tomorrow😊
The machinery was for pressing the clothing. Clothing presses
Am I the only one that at a glance thought this thumbnail was the Millennium Falcon?
Love ya, BB❣️
I'm pretty sure the first department store you're in was a Belk. And those fixtures in the associates area are steam presses for suits. I'm pretty sure that's what they were.
I stand corrected- it's a Parisian.
🚫Do not like online clothes shopping. Miss the malls and the variety of well made clothes.
Can't believe that they can not re-create something good from this place. NO! They have to build a new, expensive crap! Makes me sad. What a waste!
Relaxing in bed... Watching now
You should have taken a pic of directory so u knew where u were
Very sad to see malls empty. A lot of jobs lost and community, social contract. I purchase from stores locally to support retail.
5:03 looks like a clothes press ✨🕊️☘️

the machine were clothing presses
Wow, really big😮
Those machines are clothes presses. That was probably the dry cleaning room.
5:45 ironing board and clothing press
Sadly across the country they could turn places like this into “actual affordable housing” but they don’t because some venture capital companies demolish this and build condos with $3500 a month rent
those things where for pressing clothes, like the ones in a dry cleaners
Those are ironing boards and steamers😏
That is a foot activated steam press in the employee’s room
Awesome can't wait
What a shame. Think of the THOUSANDS of people who lost their jobs when this mall shut down!! Tragic!!!

Oh I have always wished I could do a exploration with you.....and you're 30 min from me with this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those are irons in the associates room.
Those things in the employee only area are used for pressing clothes
The 1st part of the video you was wondering what the machines were used for they are for steaming clothes
They are used to press the clothing before being hung up
Its used to press clothing!
Sad as it sounds, we need more homes these days, and fewer malls. No one is shopping at malls, but people can't find homes
Homes are too expensive.

Press the clothes before displaying on the floor.
Probably to press the clothes for d8splay
Gymborder is a kids' clothing store
Cool story bro drop the border video
Wow large mall
