As a carpenter him using that table saw made me a little squeamish. Then I saw that he was missing a finger and I was like that makes sense....

I wear wooden clogs to work, they're very comfortable and easy to get in and out of plus it lets your feet breath much better. When I fist started wearing wooden clogs people could not comprehend how wooden shoes were comfortable but when they tried them on they were like WOW! Clogs need to make a comeback!

Fun fact: the poplar wood used in this video (and all deciduous tree wood) is considered a “hardwood” even though it’s less dense than others in its category. All conifers are considered softwood (even though there are many conifers that are extremely dense).

a dutch person would not consider this a clog.... but i guess the Romanians would? the function of Dutch wooden clogs, were as safety shoes. so they are completely made out of wood to protect the foot. in fact real dutch clogs, conform to all European Guidelines for safety shoes. which means you could show up at a construction site wearing wooden clogs instead of metal nosed shoes, and legally you'd be oke.
in dutch this type of clog would actually be called "platijen" or "platforms" roughly translated.

I know this might sound stupid but if a protective isn't applied to the wood could it end up cracking or splintering into the foot? I never understood the reason for clogs but I'll research their history. Regardless I enjoyed this! Please be careful, I've never seen anyone use a table saw quite like that before and it looks like you've already experienced its danger. I wonder what else he builds, that was a huge stack of wood.

The reaspn was that wood is waterproofed and easily shaped. The normal shoe were made of leather which soles wore out prety quickly, and was not waterproof. That is why it was mainly farmers who wore wooden shoes.
