) A lead-free solder can be made using two different alloys. An important characteristic feature of a solder is its melting point, which is known to follow a Normal distribution. An experiment was conducted using a random sample of 21 pieces of solder made from the two different alloys (1 and 2). In each sample, the temperature at which each of the 21 pieces melted was determined. The mean and standard deviation of the sample for Alloy 1 were M1= 218.9ºC and S1 = 2.7ºC; for Alloy 2 the results were M2 = 215.5ºC and S2 = 3.6ºC. If it is required to test H0: µ1 = µ2 against HA: µ1 ≠ µ2, where µ stands for the population mean, what would be the value of the test statistic?
Thanks a lot for your easy methods in making understand the concepts in testing of hypothesis. However here i want to correct few errors in your calculation. 1st- d-d(bar) for d value 5 and 8 is wrong 2nd - T(tab,11,0.05) for one-tailed is 1.796. So, please correct accordingly. Thank You.

Sir in 6:22 if we are rejecting null hypothesis then we will say that there is a significant difference in the sales of company before and after advertising but you said the opposite... I am not able to understand this
Sir, with due respect, There is a doubt in question 1, why you taken d= x1-x2, instead of d= x2-x1, because data is given on same unit before and after, so the rule is that data is on the same unit we take d= x2-x1, and for the different unit we take d=x1-x2, kindly rectify me, if I am wrong. Thanks
Blood pressure reading before giving drug x1 and after giving drug is x2 And we are testing hypothesis that can drug increase blood pressure reading.? So Ho is x1=x2 and H1 is X1> X2.
hello sir, you said that d (increment) = x1-x2 where x1 are values before training and x2 are values after training. But logically, increment should be x2 - x1 (values after training - values before training). Suppose i scored 80 marks before training and 95 after training. so the increment is 95 - 80=15 and not 80-95 = -15. Am i missing something here?
In 2nd question, how tabulated value of t is 1.806? Shouldn't it be 2.201 at 11 degree of freedom and 0.05 level of significance? In-fact I can't see any value as 1.806 in the entire t-distribution table! Please clarify sir.
For a two samples t test if it is not given whether the population variances are not equal or not. Then which formula do I have to use to find degrees of freedom

Why are you taking 1% los in the first question? LOS is not mentioned in the question, so we take 5% automatically.

In last question...reading increased acc to alternative hypothesis..then why u wrote 1 greater than 2. In H1
Blood pressure reading before giving drug x1 and after giving drug is x2
And we are testing hypothesis that can drug increase blood pressure reading.?
So Ho is x1=x2 and H1 is X1> X2.

There is a little bit mistake d= -2 which is subtract from +Sign but it is added by +sign and subtracted from - sign...

120 -118 = 2
and 123-125 = -2.

Wrong test statistic. t = dbar / (s/rootn) this is correct. yours is wrong sir.
