  • Shocking cost of underground electric service! I did not expect 6 gauge wire to cost that much! All the materials were higher priced than I had anticipated. Total project cost for electricity 100 feet buried underground service from the garage to the pole building - 50 amps of power. Using the Takeuchi TB235-2 mini ex to start filling in the ditch while we discuss total project costs for the underground service to the pole building. 50 Amps of electricity from the garage to the shop. 6 gauge wire - 155 feet. 100 foot of conduit. 100 foot of PEX water line. 50 amp breaker, and labor. How much did it cost? Underground Service electricity to pole barn - total project expense. I did NOT expect underground wire to cost that much!

I can only image the cost to run a 200A service from the pole. Prices of materials are insane. Gotta love inflation and Build Back Better.

I cringed when I saw the price of that 6 gauge. I don't even want to imagine that 200 amp line running from the pole to the building! I'm glad I ended up with the 50 amp service from the garage. There will be some loss for sure - traveling the distance from the house, through the garage, and to the pole barn. It's about 185 feet total of line.

Looks good! The cost always amazes me, but never in a good way. Just wish we still had those prices today. Thanks for sharing, Chad! 😎

Thanks Dave! A few more improvements out in the shop, and some heat - and I could live out there in the camper if I had to. :)

A 50 AMP line is basically 100 AMPS since it is a double pole breaker. I would be careful to ensure you are not pulling too much going from the house to the 1st building and then to the 2nd building. Here in NE PA the rain keeps on coming. That will help with your dirt settling but, it will take some time to really smooth out that area. Glad to see you were able to get rid of the extension cord maze.

Great point about the load on the original buried line from the house to the garage.
The rain here is continuing still. Coming your way! :)

Nice job, Chad. If you had waited another 10 years the cost would have doubled again. You were wise to do it now. Cheers!
