    This is probably the most accessible introduction to sound synthesis in general I have seen (excepting FM synthesis principles of course).This brief video has helped to break down my barrier of ignorance when assessing modular synthesizers with patch cords and input/out multiplier jacks. Modern keyboards with DSP , scene, performance and registration/ function list features although many people including me to bypass a deep understanding of modular synthesizer techniques while utilizing the key features of analog synthesizers in an emulated format. I would not use such an underpowered device but neither would I acquire all of the separate modules that make up a synthesizer. Most of this is modeled adequately in VST's and good sound editing programs and apps. For me, it makes it much more likely I would acquire an 'integrated' synth like the Behringer deep mind 12 or Behringer Odyssey.

    Thanks' for posting this informative video/demo!I have the 'B-#55'-modules and I am glad that you addressed the 'switch-trigger' issue! I have built a (gate-to-switch-converter),as the one 'Behringer' sales',takes'-up a lot of 'real-estate' in a 'eurorack'! The other issue that you didn't address is the 'proprietary',(6 volt-maximum) input to the 'Behringer-#55-modules'!Any keyboard,or sequencer should be set at (5 volt,max) to avoid 'damaging' the (Behringer,921 series'-oscillators').I wish they would be a little more 'forthcoming' with this 'problem',in the '55 system-modules'.They are 'original',just like the 'modular-Moog',in that you had a (6 volt,maximum),voltage input on these modules' and a 'switch-trigger',that went to 'ground' every time a note was pressed!

      Yes - but the Behringer one for this range is not available again until 2022... I have got a Deeper A190-2 and it works nicely and doesnt fill the rack - BUT BUT BUT it doesnt reverse the trigger (for utilising S-Trigger) I get around this by doing a program change in cubase. The Behringer one actually has a reverse switch I believe.

    For someone just getting into Eurorack, why would you want to buy such a basic collection of modules, over something like the Behringer 2600? (presumably they’re around the same price) … seems like the 2600 would be a no brainer, with more voices and complex modulation opportunities than the skiff featured here.

    • @originaali
      @originaali 2 года назад

      Semi modular are kind of limited because you always break hardwired signal flow connection with patching. But comparing this entry level system ofc u can do almost same thing with 2600. But with 2600 you will not learn how to make those basic connections to make sound work, which help you to understand more complex systems later

    Great video. Very well explained. HOWEVER why should I pay >£800 (I'm presuming the keystep/controller is not included in the bundle) for something that barely does what my £150 Circuit Mono Station does? I can do everything outlined in this video on a Mono Station for quarter of the price and that includes a sequencer/controller which this Behrringer bundle does not. Not being a hater - just not yet seeing/hearing any reasons to start digging that modular money pit.

    • @MrJesterfx
      @MrJesterfx 3 года назад +7

      Basically you are right. What it is just a basic "Moog-style" synth. But when you combine it with other stuff, you can be very creative. Like modulating FM synth, complex cross-modulation, and other stuff. Personally, I have Moog Grandmother as "base" straight analog semi-modular synth and eurorack with just crazy stuff, if I need to replace oscillator with digital one, or create very complex waveshapes for modulations, stack a few filters, use random sequencing. Possibilities are endless.
      And this video just helps to see, that modular world is just like your familiar classic synth, but with a lot more flexibility, how Bob Moog designed it first.

    • @goodboid
      @goodboid 3 года назад +1

      I think you're missing the point of a modular synth. This video just shows a traditional (basic) routing of a typical synth. Now imagine being able to route any module into any other module. The main point of a modular synth is that your signal chain is not whatever the "engineer" fixed for you, you're free to go nuts and come up with your own route. Create sounds that are just not possible on a traditional 'fixed' subtractive synth.
      I hope they go into a little more detail in Part 2 of this series.

      Reaktor often costs about 100quid, why should I buy a circuit or mono station when reaktor has endless synths, drum machines, fx, sequencers etc that make anything in hardware look pedestrian? See how it works? It's just a different road to a destination we all live for and love.

    • @dinogoldie9716
      @dinogoldie9716 3 года назад

      @@ogasi1798 Nice try but no cigar. Reaktor + a computer to host it + controllers, audio interface etc, etc >>>> £100. And that still doesn't answer my very simple question. What does this Behrringer bundle do that my Mono Station can not?

      I have to disagree. Some people like the "bleeps and weird noises" and they can be used creatively and sound very good when sampled. Also, in modular its partly about the journy, patching those cables and just spending time with that. Some people play videogames, other bingewatch Netflix series, others enjoy making bleeps and blops with their modular rack. There isnt anything bad about that.

Also, if you dont like the bleep-bloops you are most likely not into heavy EDM genres like techno, bass house, dubstep etc which heavily rely on those "bleep bloops" and if you dont like It its totally okay.
