    great and very pedagogical intro video! i wish i had had access to it in 2021 when i got my system 55. one of my envelope controls turned out not to be working well. i thought it was my patching. thanks for making the video.

    Thank you SO much for putting this video together - like Moogfooger said, there just isn't this type of resource available for us true beginners - very easy to understand and easy to duplicate on my own System 55 - thanks again!!

    Great video on the Behringer 55. I learned about synths years ago on a Moog iiip with sequncer compliment b and a model ip. I’ll be ordering my behringer 55 sometime in July. It will be an awesome addition to my other moogs and various other synths.

    Not a "complete beginner", I have a number of semi-modular synths, and have used modular systems before, however, - lacking a more consistent experience in the world of fully modular synths I found a number of things in your tutorial very useful. Subbed.

    This is why i stick to analog synths because modular synths are complex and can be difficult, though i like their designs.

      Be sure you're using an S-trigger ( 0v = ON) with the Envelope. You probably have a V-trigger ( 0v = OFF). Use the 962 Interface to change from V-trig to S-trig.

    This might sound dumb, but can I use a square wave of the 921b in lo mode, with a -6 voltage to fully close and open the 902 vca? I’ve been trying but I’m missing something because it’s not fully closing the vca.

    • @ozhalljr
      @ozhalljr  3 месяца назад +1

      You should be able to do that. Try setting the VCA to Linear response. Set the gain ( fixed CV) to the noon position. Try the 921 Aux output set to Pulse. See if you can adjust the Aux volume to make it work the way you want. If you can get that to work, substitute the 921b output.

    Hello Oz. Greetings from Sydney Australia.
    Thanks mate for the video.
    I went to Mannys yesterday and was quoted a good deal on a System 55.
    I'm also a beginner with this approach to making music.
    Instead of using a keyboard into the CM1A, it looks like you could plug in a Drum Machine, and from there follow the same inputs you used for the keyboard patch to begin creating new sounds?
    Hey Oz, where's the best place to bring Left Right audio into the System 55,
    then use the System 55 modules to manupulate these L R audio paths, then send these
    L R audio paths in the System 55 out to an external mixer?

    • @ozhalljr
      @ozhalljr  5 месяцев назад +1

      First, thanks for commenting! And from Syndey!
      There are a couple of technical hurtles to deal with in processing external audio.
      1) I'm not sure what audio you're processing, but there is a difference in the standard levels ("line level ") of say a CD player, or typical audio mixer and the ( much higher ) levels of the System 55 signal chain.
      The Behringer PP1 pitch to voltage converter module ( ruclips.net/video/0XSDFv4QHKA/видео.html ) can boost a mic level or line level signal to the right level for Eurorack audio
      2) There is only one voltage controlled Low Pass Filter, so if you wanted to do stereo processing, you would need to buy a second LP Filter.
      3) There are no stereo mixers on the System 55, but you could use two mixers, one for left output and one for right.
      On the drum machine instead of a keyboard, yes many "groove boxes" have "drum" pads laid out as keyboards. If that was the case with your drum machine MIDI output, that would work to control the pitch CV and gate via the CM1A.
      Let me know how you get on with this project! Cheers.

    • @svetkolisica1635
      @svetkolisica1635 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@ozhalljr Thanks for the tips Oz.
      The PP1 and the filters would cover the I/O bases. Another mixer would create more panning options too.
      I can see how the midi in can work.
      It's going to be a steep learning curve.
      I shall keep you posted. Should be fun 🙂

    Hey, could you make a video explaining the CP3A-0, and the 992 modules? Are they just used as on off switches? I used to have a Moog system 12 and it didn't have either. I just got the Behringer system 55 and wondering what the practical uses are. I like your videos, and just subscribed.

      @kimmills688 Thanks for watching! Enjoy your System 55!
      Check out the video that I've already made on these mixing modules. Note that not all of the passive mixing techniques I discuss will work for every type of output (from different modules). If the passive mixing does not seem like it is working properly, it's not. You can hit me back with questions.

    Great presentation O.Z. It’s sounds like you have managed to get a good sine wave from your 921 oscillator in sub mode. Mine is stepped, as is the triangle waveform. Did you make some adjustment to achieve this?

    • @ozhalljr
      @ozhalljr  5 месяцев назад +1

      Rob, Thanks for that.
      No, i have not adjusted my 921 waveforms (yet). There's still a glitch at reset. You can hear it at slow rates when you're modulating the frequency. It's very visible on the 'scope. It's less noticable with filter sweeps and tremolo. I have seriously considered recalibrating the 921 to optimise for low frequency operation, but have not yet done it. That would make for a good video, if it works well.

      Do I need a line booster or something?

    • @ozhalljr
      @ozhalljr  2 месяца назад

      Sorry to take so long to get back to you. The signal from the mixer should be a VERY hot signal compared to most (e.g. line level) signals. So, no you don't need a booster. My debugging steps would be to check Power, Frequency Range and Levels:
      1) verify power to both cabinets (the mixers are in the lower cabinet, right?), vcos in the upper cabinet on the System 55
      2) verify that your 921 VCO is in the audio range (check a) the second switch (upper left) is not in the "SUB" range. Check the Raing switch and tuning frequency knob @ the noon position).
      3) check your audio interface and cable with another line level device like your phone audio or a other synth. Alternately turn the gain all the way down and connect directly from the 921 VCO to the audio interface.
      4) check the level of the 921, if you're using the Aux Output of the 921.
      Please let me know how this turns out.

    • @dillonoberhansli9764
      @dillonoberhansli9764 2 месяца назад

      @ozhalljr no reason to be sorry, I really appreciate the answer back. So I checked over, directly out from the auxiliary outputs to my interface and the switch set to audio I can get it to -18db but as soon as I go through any of the 3 mixers I can't get it past -30db even with everything set to 10. Maybe I should take all the modules out and make sure they are connected correctly. Again thank you for your help.

    • @ozhalljr
      @ozhalljr  2 месяца назад

      The -18 db reading from the 921 Aux Out seems low. Check the gain stages in your interface. Regardless, having as 12db drop through the mixer seems excessive.
      Here are a couple of other things to try (before removing all of the modules).
      1) patch the 921 Aux Out through one of the (passive) attenuator modules. See if there's a loss there. if not, I'd start suspecting the power in the lower cabinet.
      2) See if the noise source in the lower cabinet sounds about the same as the noise+filters in the upper cabinet (next to the lowpass filters). if not, I'd start suspecting the power
      3) try swapping power supplies between the two cabinets the check the 921 Aux out

    • @dillonoberhansli9764
      @dillonoberhansli9764 2 месяца назад

      So I trying all of that that you suggested. The sound level was still the same. Also tried oscillator(921B) to VCA(902) out to interface, still super weak. All this weak signals seems like it would be a power issue right?
