- This is a long awaited video! I’m so excited that I finally paid off my car! The second to last debt on my #DebtSnowball is now gone! I wanted to talk through the entire process I went through from buying my car to just paying the minimums to making it a priority to pay off the debt! I want to show how I was able to pay my car off 3 years early saving me a ton of money in interest and freeing up my monthly payment 34 months early to use for other things like my student loan debt!

I paid my car loan off more than 15 years ago. YES I am still driving the same vehicle. I will buy a new car AFTER my mortgage is paid in full 2022.

Videos like this motivates me. I just finished paying off 20K in credit card debt in 8 months so now im pouring all my income into my 26K car note. Hopefully i'll have it paid off in 6 months. Lots of sacrifices have been made but damn it sure is worth the effort.

Congrats on paying off your car! We just decided to get rid of our cars ENTIRELY! Instead, we have a membership in ZipCar for car sharing. If you don't use it one month, it's a $7 membership fee for the month. Otherwise, it ranges from $11/hr up to $127/day AND it includes gas, insurance, maintenance. A friend and I plan to take turns driving every other month for big shopping days (Costco and other places we both go to on a semi-regular basis) so if I ONLY use it for that, it will work out to an average of $45/mo!!!! I'm super excited for the savings this will bring me for 2020!

Ryan Selock I have an Outback, because I needed the space for my large dog. It’s my second one, and I really feel you get the most for your money with Subaru. I adore it! Also, I’m from The Midwest, and every year I make a road trip from Delaware to Iowa and Minneapolis in the winter, so the all-wheel-drive is important (as you know). I’m working on my car debt now. Since paying off my credit card, I have snowballed the payments towards my car. I’ll have it paid off just before the 4th loan anniversary. I have always paid my car notes off within the 3rd year, even though I get 72mo loans.

Thanks for this video. My question is, how did you make that big payment in 2019? Did you just make much bigger payments each month or you had to call the loan provider to make sure that paying that much, that fast would indeed save you $$?

First of all, Congrats!!! 2nd, in my day if you could not pay off the loan in 3 years, you could not afford the car. these days, kids taking out 7 and 8 year loans thinking they are paying it off EARLY.... how things change.

I Have a question, is it good to give large payments towards your principal or towards the interest? I was told to call the bank when making a large payment and let them know I wanted the last payment to go towards my principal. Any advice on that? Thanks

Is it possible to make principal only payments for all auto loans or are there loans out there that lock you into 48, 60, 72 months?
Good question. I think it depends on your lender. My dealer had me sign up for this service called Intellipayment that locked me into an agreement. I eventually cancelled and was able to pay more frequently
Looking at your interest rate makes me cry I have an 8.14% for mine.

I had 5% over 84 months with a $40,000 balance. I paid it off in 34 months here is something I learned. The interest rate don't much matter when ur hitting it with everything you can come up with all on the principal. I got really aggressive and that loan didn't stand a chance. You got this!

Wel here in South Africa it is a bit differnt. The car loabs for us is 14.5% max. Mine is 14% which is ridiculous. So it is even more important to pay it off. And if you make paent they dont do a debit order for that month to keep you paying all the interests. You have to call them and say they must take the exstra money payd and make a capital reduction and work out a new paymentand best of all you can only do it once a year. SA is bad.

how is 3.7% high and 84 moth term normal?
Good job. It's very important to go gung ho and pay off your automobile early especially if the car is a Chrysler/Fiat/Jeep, or GM, Ford..due to how today they can't compete with Toyota, Hyundai, Honda, or Subaru in terms of longevity...NEVER go 60 months or more on Chrysler GM or Ford, unless its Fords F150 with the V8. You'll being paying for repairs and making payments, and that blows.
I’m such a 🤡🤡🤡🤡! Capital One has been taking my money (of course) like it’s nothing knowing they could’ve mentioned paying principal. My interest rate is ridiculously high AF & for me to really ask them and not even mention this burns me UP! 😡 Oh but from now on I’ll be doing regular payments with that “extra” into the principal. Bastards!

Well done! I’m posting this comment in 2021. Sometimes new car loans are a necessary evil. After your payoff, your car loan will be on your credit report for 10 more years. When you buy your next car, wait till you find a promotional finance offer of 0% financing from the manufacture finance company. Try to buy another car before your NEFCU loan falls off of your credit report. (-;
