- My neighbor has been looking for an excavator to work on his property. I noticed this old kobelco 12 tonner on marketplace so we drove out to a remote part of the Marlborough Sounds to have a look at it. We found plenty of little things needing attention but it was very cheap and it still works so he bought it. We will work on it over the next few months and attempt to fix all the issues.
Nice to see you and the neighbors getting together to fix a common problem for the both of you
way it oughta be
Marty, thank goodness you put up another video. I was starting to have acute withdrawal symptoms. I have an idea for a video but I will run it by you. As an avid viewer of your work, I would like you to do a “where are they now” video of the machines you have resurrected. You obviously kept the Hitachi excavator and TD9 bulldozer, but tractors, where do I start. There have been 2 barn finds but others like the swamp tractor, the David Brown, the Fiat, the Kubota 4WD, the one you rescued from the bushland. Surely you don’t keep them all on your property, you would drive your wife crazy.
Have a look at a video of his from 8 months ago: "Teaching my son how to start my entire fleet of vintage machines" - I think he's kept them all
I’m glad to see the neighbors care about the roads too. It’s great seeing you work together to get it done. I enjoy seeing you both working on the road, it’s very interesting.
You blokes are pretty competent operators, I've watched guys in nice new excavators stuff around trying without success to "train" concrete culvert pipes together accurately, it's a hand eye coordination effort and you blokes did it very well with a tired old machine, good one Marty, cheers from "the West Island".
If it was my council it would be 6 guys coming up to look at the hole for 6 hours and then going home without havein done anything. Do that for about a week and then not come back for another 6 months.
Beauty👍 always good to get a it more life out of a good machine.
Great spot too,nice country
Cheers
The guy seemed very honest. Finding possible faults like the the oil possibly being thin etc. Very nice.
I never sell anything mechanical without either fixing it or telling prospective owners what's wrong that l've lived with. I have been bitten by liars, live in a bush community and have picked up a bit of nous...but hate lies. Shit heads get short thrift out here.,particularly as most sellers are pretty fair
That diagnosis is exactly the kind of interesting stuff that I'm always looking forward to. The way you guys go about it is so wild. Simple, quick, and effective. Super cool.
Loving these videos.
Ever since the excavator in the woods video. Top tier content.
Thanks Marty.
Amazing how well these old machines last Marty. Thanks for the video.👍👍
Hi Marty and friend, great video. Wish I had neighbours like you two here in UK. Many thanks, hope all goes well with repairs.
Amazing to see it getting to work so soon after purchase and getting the job done.
Morning here in South Africa, super to have you as a neighbor Marty. Keep the videos rolling.
Good neighbours are worth their weight in gold. Looking forward to seeing the "fix up". Bloody useful machine.
Congrats on the 500k!
Thanks.. Not quite there yet, maybe by the end of the week
@@MartyT Not sure what happened but I got unsubscribed, last video I was notified of was the "Mini Excavator vs. landslide" 3 months ago. Looks like RUclips are gaming the system so they don't have to send out those expensive play buttons!
Almost at 500k bro! Well deserved. Thanks for the great content 🤝
Thanks mate
I love seeing the construction on the road. Very well done on setting the culverts. Putting the “new” digger to the test. Trial by fire. This one was different in that the machine fired right up. Unusual. 😁
Love the way its neighbors helping neighbors. This is what l grew up with. We'd borrow a dozer, they'd borrow a truck or tractor or would use our sawmill n We'd help build shed's etc. One hand helping the other.
Leaking slew ring, tracks buggered, leaking ram seal, movement in the boom pin, slop in the bucket pins, milky oil, needs new hoses. Mmm and your wanting $800. ... Would you take $350 😂😂😂 Good to see the old girl still working 💪
Great to see you and your neighbours working together and keeping access for all. Great to see!
Looks like a nice machine. Started right up. Seems to run really well. Needs a little love in the undercarriage and some of the pins and hoses. Nice big, flat edge bucket. If its new life doesn't require daily hard usage, it should be fine for quite a while. Pretty neat how it was moved, first by barge, then by truck.
somehow i'm watching this on friday evening despite spending 50+ hours a week running excavators. cheers mate
Nice seeing neighbours working together, looking at those tracks that why you clean then after each job saves a fortune. For its age not a bad digger, nice find. 👍
It's great how this isn't just a sale video. The excavator is insected, transported, and put to use all in one video!
Congratulations Marty on 500K subs. A great 'how to' channel for us armchair mechanics, builders, restorers and general couch potatoes 🤣🤣 Actually I'm off to the loft to look at the insulation that needs relaying. I didn't say I was going to do anything. Just look at it!
Congratulations on the new / slightly used excavator. You will have it in good useable shape in no time. Looking forward to your handy tips on repairing and servicing
I'm convinced this part of the world is home to more Renaissance Men than anywhere else. A symbiosis of the land only accommodating such people, and the people working with the land.
You can find them in a lot of places around the world but you have to look hard.
An impression I get of Marty, is that he is smart and very efficient with his efforts in a laid back, unrushed way. I had to look up the meaning of Renaissance man, as us bush Kiwis aren't quite so academic.
I think the neighbours see all the fun Marty has with his excavator and dozers, so they want in on the action too!! 🤣👍
A bit of a fixer upper, but I love seeing old equipment put back into use. I'm sure it will be a very handy machine for your neighbor.
from Canada........ congratulations on having 500,000 subscribers, I have watched for a long time as I really enjoy how you do things.............cheers.
Was just thinking we must be due for another Marty masterpiece so I came to RUclips and here it is
Guy using the rake to clear around a culvert exactly like the one used by Post10. It always makes me smile to see you using Morris oil. From my small home town, all the way to the other side of the world. You should see if they'll sponsor you, might send you a few free drums!

The Kobelco reminds me of me: Totally clapped out with loose joints everywhere but can still put on a good show!
That was good practice for now fixing up all New Zealand roads!! 😂
Great video!! Awesome job fixing the road!!
Amazing machines would love to have a drive of one . Remember riding in the bucket as a kid , uncle would slew the machine at 360 ,,, dizzy dizzy 🙂. Looking forward to seeing you change the rad and service the machine.
Well Marty, I'd call that a success 😊 You actually got some work done before it broke! I'm seldom able to get much done without spending a ton of money. Good Job!
In constant envy of people with playgrounds this big, but the cost of maintaining, not so much. That sounds like ten tons of fun about to cost more than the scrap value to get working reliably..Good luck 👍
Another great save by Marty and neighbors. I think when I got it home I would steam or hot pressure clean so you could check it out better including the tracks.
Alright find that Marty, and a good job on the culvert mate.
Team work Well done. Thanks for keeping us up to date with what is going on.
This machine has spent all its life from new down the sounds. This at one point was Adrian Harvey's then was sold in the early 2000's ( i believe ) to the wells in nopera. It was then was brought with the property that the Mander's have now. It was then sold a couple of years ago to Lyle in Crail bay. I have personally ran this machine ( 4 5 years ago ? ) when the mander's had it and it was a good we digger for its age.
Good to know the history of it thanks
@@MartyT your welcome I grew up and I'm from nopera so that helps. The track chains have also had a link taken out a few years ago.
Marty T, good job helping ur friend buy a old Excavator. looks good, tracks sounds like a door aga, some replace parts and hoses she will be fine..
Almost at 500k I can't wait, you deserve it 🎉🎉🎉
Good work! That machine is worth whatever your neighbour paid for it! (About twice over.)
A lucky fix with the track. Hopefully the things that need to be fixed will not cost as much as the machine did. The hydraulics seem to be good picking up the culverts. Have good days!
It’s just men getting on in life….no worries mate..respect from Ireland
very nice work with neighbor 👍👍👍
Great job extending the culvert make the road better and more safer, Especially for larger vehicles. When are you going to buy some more equipment your videos are always decent to watch 🇬🇧🇮🇪.
Good day Marty … how come the videos have slowed down … I look forward to the restored vehicles and the manicure mountain terrain that you do.
Maybe restore to sell, what ever you decide we are just glad to be able to watch. Thanks
I have rsi (mouse elbow) in both arms from all the editing, I'm slowing down the uploads for a while to let it heal
@@MartyT
Good day sir , and thank you for replying . I’m very sorry to hear about your predicament and Im quif sure your fans from all over wish a speedy recovery. Rest and a change of routines will help heal. I’ll try and be patient and await your next video.
Hey she may be old but she still works. With your magic it will work like new again
Not got the quality of the old jcb one you done mate that was a lovely old girl😂😊
At least its not stuck abandoned on the side of a mountain and requiring a rebuild in situ. Thats gotta be a bonus 😁
Exactly, it made it up the hill to mates workshop
Very cool. Obviously needs some sorting. 👍
Marty is the right sort of neighbour to have. Wish he lived near me, LoL.
Marty you are a hell of an operator love ya work.
Bro Marty, that storm was when I started watching your channel, and what a journey since then. Keep up the good videos 👍
Thanks for making so many cool videos.
Outstanding and awesome as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along.
Very convenient living on a mountain of perfect road building material!
that's a clean excavator. Rams look good, engine sounds strong, barely run in 😊
It would be great to see a restoration series on this
Marty's HOA Help Out All. The way neighbors in rural areas get along . I'm always there when they need me and they are there for me if I need them. 🍻
It seems that people love this content
Congrats
It's contagious as Marty has now infected his neighbor with buying old heavy equipment that needs work !! 😆
You'd have thought Marty had picked the top of the South Island clean but no... ;-)
nice excavator, plenty of life left, very useful for the years to come.
Used to have one of these old machines on swamp tracks on a peat bog down south would say it'll always start better than a new machine slow but reliable
Would love to see a video on what you have done for a living and how you got into fixing your old machines.
Good machine that needs a little love :-)
Got to be 4 or 5 Video's in this project for sure!
"Just clear a slip on the way up the hill". It can take months for the local council to organise something like that on a road.
Great acquisition! I know you will “dig up” a lot of uses for it…haha
Geez you boys did a nice job on that culvert. Two blokes with a clapped out of digger achieved in a few days what would take the council six months and $10 million.
I would have doubled up the culverts under the road, it will flood again not if but when and will wash out again with the same capacity there glad to see the excavator did a good job!
Another great video
Buy an old bus lol plenty for sale in New Zealand and try and get it running, the bones on some of them are awesome just need a mechanical lookover.
Hey Marty just an idea. You could host a charity event. Not super sure on the details. But if you asked your subs to come out and labor for a project, you'd have all sorts of strong and skilled lads looking to help. Wed get to shake your hand and have a nice day in the sun and meet some nice folks. All the while working for a local school or council to make a path, fix something, Eco work like planting trees or whatever else.
excellent thought.........
most of us hop in our private jets n fly a mile or 14K!
😁
NORWEGIANS HER 😂😂😂😂
Instant like best vids on youtube learnt so much from watching well done mate .
Enjoyable video as always. Thanks
Well done boys Barry Blenheim
With a bit of love it should be a great asset for your neighbour bro. Made for great viewing for sure. Beautiful day here in the Waikato with a nice breeze for the washing. Safe travels. Ken.
G,day Marty T from Sydney Australia. Nice acquisition. After all that time sitting and after work load only rad leaking.
🇦🇺🌏
Good find Marty thanks
Great work Marty! Love to see the projects get some progress! Can’t wait to see the next video, cheers mate! ❤
Marty uploads. Its a good day 👍
What a fantastic Country side view
I’m always wondering what you’re getting up to. Great update!
Been awhile since your friend has been on a video with you. Good to see him again
Watching this here in Oklahoma, just before I go to bed. Cracking end to the day.
That makes 2 of us. From Wetumka myself.
@@phillovelace claremore here
Your wife will not get rid of you as you have so many machines around you at the top of the hills, you are worth a lot of money LOL
great video Marty to help keep the roads open in bad times.
thats crazy, i have a kobelco k909 24 ton, and i have not changed the engine oil and dont think the prior owner did ether(probobly 14 years also sitting alot) but the oil look new. and everything just works,
really enjoyed that vid marty
A little tlc will go a long way with that machine 🏴👍🏻
Some proper Kiwi accents going on in this video Marty. well short of a New Zeald 'Fush and chups from Wullington' accent, but definitely getting on, and no chance of being mistaken for an Oz accent. It's getting a lot more complicated living off grid in NZ nowadays. That 100 year flood is going to have to be recalibrated to a five year flood the way big weather events are happening in recent years.
Honestly, that machine looks great for its age! I’ve bought worse. The pin slop on my old Takeuchi was like a game of telegraph, you heard it seconds later. ;-) it dig perfectly though.
Good find!
Nice work on the road
Most common thing in these is the right hand track drive to give bother/ get weak. Usually the centre rotation cylinder needs a seal or two.
Looks like a tidy little machine,,
It's a lot stronger than I thought it would be. I can't remember a Kobelco that didn't have a blade. Thanks for the video.
Truly a stunning part of the World.
I know it's badged up as Kobelco, but I can't help thinking it's actually a Kato machine. I've seen 1980s kobelcos before but the cab was shaped different. Anyway I'm probably wrong, a lot of Kato machines have mitsubishi engines in them whereas this one has the legendary bulletproof Isuzu. I hope it does your neighbour proud.
Maybe, we cant find a tag anywhere and don't know what model it is
Hey Marty, any update on the sons of Rambro & the rest of his family? You haven't posted on Rambro's channel for a long while. Hope they're still around.
Angry ram channel doesn't make any money for the time I put in so I don't bother uploading there.. Thunder wandered out of the forest for a visit yesterday, he's looking healthy
@MartyT thanks for the reply! Glad to know that Thunder is still hale & hearty. 👍
