Plan on picking up both. I love my Gen 1 3/8 stubby, but like you I want to have the option to use a dedicated 1/2 stubby for suspension work especially while using an extension. I do notice when I convert my 3/8 with a 1/2 adapter I can remove the fastener I was trying to get with a 3/8 extension. The thicker and heavier mass of the extension and socket does make a difference. Looking forward to your hands on review👍🏻

DIDNT KNOW I WANTED ONE UNTIL YOU POSTED THIS VIDEO SO THANKS MAN hahaha
the debate was 3/8 vs 1/2....maybe next time ill pull the trigger twice. BAM!

Finally!milwaukee didn't reduce the size and weight from the previous gen stubby unlike what they did to the high torque, drill, and impact drivers.. double the performance instead!

If you in bolt removal mode, and have the drive in the forward position, itll only tighten the fastener to around 15ft-lb. Just throwing that information out there.

Flat Rate Master.. Don't ya just love when you get used to something on a tool and then the tool company up and changes it. Very frustrating. I hope to get both of those impacts. One of them today if I can decide which one to get. LOL Do they have the new one in 1/4 though? I see the 1/2 being handy due to the size difference from the M18 1/2 high torque (which I have) if it has the power to stand up to the duties of a 1/2 impact. Is the new M12 3/8 more powerful than the M18 3/8? Is the new M12 3/8 any smaller than the M18 3/8? I have the M18 3/8 stubby or compact or what ever it's called and want to make sure the new M12 3/8 is worth using over the M18 3/8 before I buy it.

I pre-ordered the 3/8" version and am excited to get it. I wish they hadn't redesigned the mode change function, though. Oh well. This is going to basically replace my 1/4" M12 impact driver that I use (w/adapter) for small stuff and my M18 mid-torque that I use for larger stuff. Crazy how much power it puts out. Tim Johnson at Pro Tool Reviews got it to break free 650ft-lbs. Good thing Milwaukee added a third planetary gear in the drive mechanism to help with durability.

I'm tempted but will stay with my 3/8" Gen 1 stubby, which gets 95% of the fasteners I use it on off, the only ones that it's struggled with being suspension bolts that hadn't been loosened in decades. I had to use a breaker/cheater on those, but once they were off I doubt that it would struggle to get them off again if I needed to. I work on our cars, no trucks, so while it would be nice and what I'd get if I didn't already have the original stubby, I'm perfectly fine with it and will stay with it until it stops working out of warranty and I can't fix it, and that's years away. Plus, I don't think I'd like the new way of changing settings.

I like this. I have the 3/8 stubby and my next step up is 1/2 high torque which is pretty much always set at level 2. The new 1/2 inch would be an ideal in between for me

Flat Rate Master.. UPDATE!! Well I was going to pull trigger and buy both of them (3/8 & 1/2) and found out they are out of stock at Home Depot and pretty much everywhere else. I think one or two places I found said they were in stock but they wanted like $50 more for them. So I guess I have to freakin wait to get them. So frustrating!!

So, you're holding a driveshaft with one hand. And you pickup your impact gun , and put it on bolt, and realize you put on the right socket , but it's on wrong setting. It's on setting 1, for the hand tight suspension parts you just installed prior, before torquing.
You are going to set down the driveshaft to change the power level on the tool? Or do you tuck the gun under your armpit and adjust the power level button? You see what I mean? New may be better. I duno which is better, but I don't think they did it for no reason.
I think they're mental for offering above 250 foot pounds from a 3/8. Dumb. But the 1/2 seems reasonable. A 1/2 socket can sometimes be fine at 400-500 foot pounds. A good 1/2 socket might be ok at 600 foot pounds. But not a 3/8 😂

People hate change I get it, but the trigger is a reliable switch by itself, Inliked the top switch too but it is fragile, thin and hard to reach with gloves. One hand operation seems like a plus too

1:40 I don't like it either. The Makita XDT19 I use has a little black button on top of the trigger which allows you to change modes quickly. The best system yet in my opinion.
