- A beacon to mariners since 1872, the Bodie Island Lighthouse is now fully restored and open to the public. This segment originally aired on 10/3/13 as part of the 7th season premiere. "Our State" is produced in partnership between Our State Magazine and UNC-TV, with generous support from BB&T.

Love, love, love this video. It amplifies the appreciation for the Bodie Island Lighthouse and the people who raised the funds for its restoration. I am so happy that Coast Guard gave the Fresnel lens to the national park service. Fun Fact: Bodie island lighthouse has one of the only three 360-degree fixed first-order Fresnel lens in USA.
It also had a nearly-identical twin near Charleston, South Carolina. It's the Morris Island Lighthouse.
hooray ! we have been going to the OBX for years, always the Bodie light was closed. Now our next visit we can finally climb to the top. Thanks.
