  • Captain George Flavel was a renowned Columbia River maritime pilot whose Astoria, Oregon influence was unquestioned. His residence mansion has become a local touring attraction after the city originally refused it as a gift from his family. A more intriguing family mansion was inhabited by his daughter and two grandchildren, one who was dubiously nicknamed Hatchet Harry. This haunted gem remained uninhabited for decades stagnating in decay before being purchased by auction in 2015. The formerly occupying Flavel family cultivated an exhaustive reputation for violence, abduction, stealing hotel towels and abandoning bodies in the morgue because they were too cheap to pay for burial. The property remains a re-work in progress, but may never shed its paranormal reputation or fascination to incite curious stares.
